Usage In Indian Religions
Six-pointed stars have also been found in cosmological diagrams in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. The reasons behind this symbol’s common appearance in Indic religions and the West are unknown. One possibility is that they have a common origin. The other possibility is that artists and religious people from several cultures independently created the hexagram shape, which is a relatively simple geometric design.
Within Indic lore, the shape is generally understood to consist of two trianglesone pointed up and the other downlocked in harmonious embrace. The two components are called “Om” and the “Hrim” in Sanskrit, and symbolize man’s position between earth and sky. The downward triangle symbolizes Shakti, the sacred embodiment of femininity, and the upward triangle symbolizes Shiva, or Agni Tattva, representing the focused aspects of masculinity. The mystical union of the two triangles represents Creation, occurring through the divine union of male and female. The two locked triangles are also known as ‘Shanmukha’the six-faced, representing the six faces of Shiva & Shakti’s progeny Kartikeya. This symbol is also a part of several yantras and has deep significance in Hindu ritual worship and history.
The Shatkona is a symbol used in Hinduyantra that represents the union of both the male and feminine form. More specifically it is supposed to represent Purusha , and Prakriti . Often this is represented as Shiva – Shakti.
Let Me Make You A Star
In this post, I will demonstrate how to make a five-pointed star using AutoCAD.
In the process of making a star, we will touch on several AutoCAD tools, including the polygon tool, the block tool, the hatch tool, and the trim command.
Ive always liked stars. I live in Texas, USA, and were very big on stars here. We write songs about them and put them on our flags. As a kid growing up, I enjoyed using a stick to make a star shape on the ground near my house by scratching five lines in the sand. It looked something like this:
Now that Ive grown up , I use multi-thousand-dollar software and a laptop computer to make an electronic drawing of a star that is accurate to the ten-thousandth of an inchor centimeter, if you prefer.
A student once asked me in one of my AutoCAD classes,
Doesnt AutoCAD have a tool to make a star?
I answered, No, not really, but it does have a polygon tool that we can use to make a great star.
Your Drawings Are Complete
Congratulationsyou did it! Now you can draw different kinds of stars. I hope the compass and protractor became your best friends, and together youll create many more geometrical objects.
Creating technically perfect figures requires skill and patience, so if your stars came out slightly uneven at the first attempt, dont give upjust try again. Sometimes the tools we use allow imperfections, like the inaccuracy of the protractors grid.
At the same time, remember to have fun and enjoy the process!

How To Draw A Seven Point Star With One Path In Adobe Illustrator
I am looking to create an SVG seven pointed star which is drawn with one path, similar to how you used to draw 5 pointed stars in grade school but scaled up to 7 points. I’ve included an image that shows what I mean.
I would also like the points of the star to be rounded, as seen in the image. The problem that I am currently facing is that I am able to draw the rough idea, but its completely asymmetric and doesn’t look too good. Any help would be appreciated.
Draw a regular 7 pointed star using the Star Tool.
With the star still selected do View > Guides > Make Guides
Make sure Smart Guides are enabled
Using the Curvature Tool, draw the star making sure each corner snaps to the Anchors.
You can draw it as sharp by clicking with the Pen to corners of a 7-gon which is drawn with the polygon tool. Control the curvature by applying Effect > Stylize > Round corners
Have Snap to Point and Smart Guides ON to be able to draw the sharp version accurately.
Expand the appearance if you want to fix the roundness and have a path with no effect. Before expanding you can reopen the roundness effect via the Appearance panel for adjustments.
Not asked: No matter which drawing method you actually use, but you can meet a problem: Where is the centerpoint? Illustrator gives the center of the bounding box which is NOT the center of the 7 point star. You can find the centerpoint by drawing 2 cord lines between the crossings of the curve:
Star Of David Coloring Page
The Star of David or Magen David , as its referred to in Hebrew, is the most common symbol for expressing Jewish identity today. The Hebrew name for the symbol a hexagram formed by two overlapping triangles, one pointed upward and the other downward comes from its supposed resemblance to King Davids shield.
This step by step tutorial shows students how to draw the more complex version of the Star of David, one that makes the two triangles look like they are woven together. They basically need to overlap two equilateral triangles and then erase a few key lines. A little bit of math meets art meets Jewish history!

How To Make A 6 Pointed Star
Since the first thing you need is a 6 pointed star, let’s start with that shall we?
Gather your materials:
1. Draw a circle. Using your compass, draw a circle of any size you wish.
2. Without changing the width of your compass, place the sharp end of the compass at any point on the circle. As if you are going to draw another circle, mark with a slash the point where the new circle would intersect the existing one.
3. Continuing around the circle, move the sharp end of the compass to point where the slash meets the circle and repeat step 2 until you have a total of 6 slashes.
4. Form the triangles. Using your ruler, connect every other point on the circle. This will create two overlapping equilateral triangles.
5. Cut out your star. Carefully cut out your new 6 pointed star. Because this shape will form the basis of your tessellating stars you want to be as precise and careful as possible.
Now you are ready to tessellate! Watch the video to see how it is done, or follow the written instructions directly below it!
How To Draw A Perfect 5 Point Star In Photoshop
Learn how easy it is to draw a perfect 5 point star, or 5 sided star, in Photoshop! And how to save the star as a custom shape so you’ll never need to draw it again. For Photoshop 2021 or later.
In this tutorial, I show you how to draw a perfect 5 point star in Photoshop. By perfect, I mean a star where the sides of the star segments line up perfectly with each other. Now Photoshop does include a few built-in star shapes, but none of them look right. So I’ll show you how easy it is to draw your own, and how to save the star as a custom shape so you’ll never need to draw it again.
Before we begin, I should point out that Adobe made changes to the shape tools in Photoshop 2021, which is what Im using here. So to follow along, youll need or later.
Here’s what the star will look like when we’re done. Of course, you can choose any color you like:

Creating A Block From The Star
Now lets make a block of the star. We will use the center point of the circle as the base point of the block, and we will not include the circle in the blocks objects.
First, Ill select all of the objects in the drawing, using Ctrl-A.
Now I can remove the circle from the selection set by holding down the SHIFT key and clicking on the circle. Only the star linework and hatch objects now remain selected. Type BLOCK. The Block Definition dialog box appears. For the block name, lets use STAR.
Use the Pick point button to place the base point. Use snap override to open the snap override options, and choose Center snap. Click on the circles linework to choose its center point as the blocks base point, then hit OK.
Now you have a block which includes the starslinework and the white hatch, and ithas a base point EXACTLY in the center of the star. You can now erase the circle.
In case youre wondering, the white hatch of our star does have a grip point that is near the center of the hatch, but it is not located at the exact center of the star. Finding the exact geometric center of a five-pointed star like this, without having a circle to go by, is not an easy trick. Try it sometime.
Hope you enjoyed this little project. Thanks again to Paul for letting me provide this guest post. Cheers, and Keep on CADDing! J
What Is The Christmas Star
This winter solstice, 21st December, the two largest planets Jupiter and Saturn appeared closer together in the sky then they have for some 800 years. It was rumoured that they will be so close that they will look like one bright star. There is some debate about this but whether they will or not depends on where you are in the world, how good your eyesight is and the weather conditions. If you have poor eyesight, you may well see them as one bright star, and due to the time of year, its no surprise that people are calling it a Christmas Star. Last night was overcast where I live and the best night for seeing the stars during this conjunction may turn out to be Christmas Eve.
So what was the original Christmas Star? Some believe that the unusually large bright star referred to in the Bible that appeared at Jesus birth was a conjunction of planets. But that is just one of a number of theories. We dont know the year of Jesus birth or even the time of year for sure.
5. Draw a line connecting the two crosses.
6. Place the point of your compass in the centre of your circle and draw two more arcs as shown below.
7. Place the point of your compass on the intersection of the horizontal line with the left-hand side of the circle and draw to more arcs that cross with the previous two.
8. Join the two crosses you have just created with a second vertical line. This line runs parallel to the original vertical line.

Did you notice that it is two triangles?
|Now draw it like this:|
It is three lines!
Why do 2 triangles OR 3 lines make a 6-pointed star?
- A triangle has three corners, so 2 × 3 = 6
- A line has two ends, so 3 × 2 = 6
How many ways can we make a 7-pointed star?
|Connecting every||3rd corner|
I could not make it out of only lines or only triangles.
And when I started drawing I kept going around and around until I met up with the start again.
Measuring Around The Perimeter Or Across From Point To Opposite Point In 5
If you know the measurement along one side of a star point, then:
- The Perimeter will be the sum of ten of the sides of a star point.
- The”Length Across” from any one of the 5 points to the point opposite it will be 2.618 times the measurement of the Side of a Star Point.
- The total measurement for forming the star by going across from point to opposite point in succession will be 5 times the length between two opposite points. Or just multiply your known measurement along one side of a StarPoint by = 13.09.
We’re talking about starting at the bottom left point C, going across to the opposite point I, then down to E, back across to A, horizontally across to G, then down and across — until you get back to your starting point C.

How To Draw A 5 Point Star With A Compass
To celebrate this years winter solstice and the once-in-a-lifetime conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter, I drew the stippled star mandala design below. Its basically a series of 5-pointed stars drawn by stippling thousands of dots. Im holding a new 3-hour workshop on stippling and geometric art on Saturday 6th February but in the meantime, here are two different ways to draw a simple 5-pointed star.

I used a Sakura Micron Pigma Pen, which has a nib that is just 0.5 mm, to draw the above image but you could also consider a finer point to draw a more intricate design with even more dots.

Materials For Star Of David Drawing
- Pencil. The Ticonderoga brand are the most reliable, make nice dark lines when you need them, and are the easiest to erase. Buying the pre-sharpened ones will save busy teachers a lot of time.
- Eraser. Large ones you can hold in your hand do a much better job than just the pencil tip erasers, especially when erasing leftover pencil lines after tracing.
- BlackSharpie Marker. These fine point permanent marker pens make nice black outlines, have a good tip for coloring, and never bleed when they get wet. Use them with good ventilation and add extra paper underneath to protect your tables.
- Prang Crayons. These are a bit softer than other crayons so they sometimes look like oil pastels. They also have a some nice brown shades that Crayola does not have unless you buy their larger boxes.
- Crayola Crayons. The reliable brand that always works well. The 24 pack has some of my favorite golden orange and yellow colors that seem a bit richer and warmer than the ones Prang has.
