Step 1 : Draw a circle at the top of your sheet. This will serve as a sketch for the baby dragons head. Make sure there is enough room around for the rest of the baby dragon drawing.
Step 2 : Draw another, smaller circle to the left of the first one. This will match the muzzle of the baby dragon.
Step 3 : Draw a curve to join the two circles you made before. The curve represents the bottom of the baby dragons head.
Step 4 : Draw three circles below the previous ones. The upper circle is slightly larger than the other two. These circles will help us draw the silhouette of the baby dragon .
Step 5 : Connect the circles with curved lines as the picture shows.
Step 6 : To complete the silhouette, add two slender oval shapes for the baby dragons legs.

Next Draw Some More Spikes For The Back Of The Dragon
This third step of our guide on how to draw a baby dragon will see you continuing with the back and tail for the dragon.
We will be keeping it pretty simple in this step! First, draw a curved line on the right-hand side for the thigh of the baby dragon.
Then we will simply be drawing some more spikes along the back of the dragon, but for now we wont draw any outlines for this area.
Try your best to position these spikes as they appear in our reference image!

Now Draw The Bottom Of The Head And The Back For The Dragon
Continuing with this baby dragon drawing, we will finish off the outline for the head while starting the back as well.
First, use some more curved lines for the bottom of the snout and then add two dots for the nostrils. Then we can move on to the back.
This can be started by drawing some small wings onto the back, and then we shall add some small spikes between them.
Use some more curved lines for the back and belly, and then we can move on to step 3.
Fourth Step Legs Tail Wings
Well, things are really beginning to look good at this point. Now its time to add some key features that make your dragon look more like a dragon!
Similar to how you tackled the body above, draw in the legs left equals right.
Once the legs are in place, its time to draw in a tail and after that, the wings. Pick a side to draw the tail. Actually, perhaps the tail is going straight back behind your dragon. In this case, it probably cant be seen. Draw yours like this if you want.
The wings are pretty straight forward as well. Start with the left and right frames, and after just like with other dragons draw the “spokes” that divide each wing segment. Last, connect each segment with a curved line to form the webbing.
Almost done now!

To draw this cartoon Dragon step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you’ll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.
For the first few steps, don’t press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.
Step 1: Draw a curved line similar to a half-circle for this little cartoon dragon’s eye. Sketch lightly at first so that it’s easy to erase if you make a mistake. When you get the shape right, darken the line and make it thick for eyelashes. The shape should be like a circle that doesn’t connect at the bottom.
Step 2: Inside the eye, draw a small circle for the iris. Sketch lightly at first to get the shape right. Inside the iris, at the top and bottom, draw two tiny circles for highlight. In the middle of the iris, draw a smaller circle and shade it in for the dragon’s pupil. Don’t overlap the highlights.
Step 3: Draw a curved line above the dragon’s eye for a thick brow. Make the line jagged along the way to give the brow a rough, bony look.

Finish Off The Outline For The Back And Tail
You have the spikes for the back and tail of the baby dragon drawing done, and now we can finish off the outline around them.
Use some curved lines to draw the outline of the tail around the row of spikes that make up the tail. The tail will also have a shape similar to a curved arrowhead at the end of it.
Finally, finish off with some more curved lines to create the other hip for the baby dragon. Then you will be ready for some final details in the next step!
Finish Off Your Baby Dragon Drawing With Some Color
When it came to coloring our example image for this baby dragon drawing, we kept things a bit more muted by going with a grey color scheme for it.
To balance this off, we used a nice bright red for the pupils of the eyes. This is one color approach that you could go for, but you have a lot of freedom with how you could color it in!
Some people like to depict dragons as brightly colored, while others like to also keep the colors more muted to make them look like real reptiles.
Which approach do you think you will go for? Be sure to also have some fun with the art mediums and tools that you use to complete the image, as you can really get some unique colors by experimenting!

INFO BOX: European Dragons
Dragon mythologies evolved separately in Europe and in Asia. European dragons are often depicted as being dinosaur-like or griffin-like, having six limbs – arms, legs, and wings. This style has been especially common since the Middle Ages. European dragons depicted with only two legs are known as wyverns.
Early Mesopotamian mythologies introduce the idea of a hero slaying the dragon, and this is carried on throughout Middle Age literature. The image of dragons protecting or hoarding a treasure may have arisen from the practice of introducing snakes to food storage areas to deter mice.
