Laying The Foundations Of The Front Legs
Bees, like most insects, have segmented legs just like their segmented bodies. Start by drawing the front leg that is closest to us via our perspective. Begin by drawing a sausage-like shape extending down from the thorax circle just behind the intersection of the head and thorax. At the bottom of this sausage, draw another slightly more S shaped sausage that curves forward at the bottom.
The second front leg is mostly hidden behind the head, so we are only going to draw the bottom more curvey segment poking out from the head oval just below the mouth.
Easy Steps To Draw A Cute Bee
Make the most out of this printable tutorial by helping your little ones express themselves: learning how to draw a bee is a healthy way of expressing their emotions while enhancing their motor skills, such as coordination and fine motor skills. Drawing really plays a big part in kids development!
Our bee sketch tutorial is so easy to follow that any kid can become a true artist in a matter of minutes, all while having fun!
Adding The Bees Proboscis
Bees are the most important pollinators in our ecosystem, and they do this by brushing against pollen while sucking the nectar out of the flowers.; To suck up this sweet nectar, bees use their pointy proboscis, which is what we are going to draw in this step.
Using a slightly curved V shape, attach the mouth to your bee drawing at the very bottom point of the head oval.

How To Draw A Bumblebee: Base Sketch Step By Step
Step 1: Draw the base head and body shapes
Start your bumblebee drawing with a simple circle for the head.
The body is a kind of beetroot shape – one curve on the top for the back, meeting with a slightly flatter curve for the bottom belly in a nice pointed bumblebee bum.
Step 2: Draw the eyes and antennae
Bumblebees have very large compound eyes. Our drawing is a very simple cartoon version of a bumblebee, so let’s give it large cartoon eyes. Draw those as two big ovals, with small ovals inside for the pupils.
Then add two antennae to the top of the head. These are simple arcs, and keeping with cartoon exaggeration, we are adding big pom-pom circles at the end.
Step 3: Draw the bumblebee’s body stripes
One of the trademarks of any self-respecting bumblebee is its yellow-black body striping. In this step, we are adding the lines that will mark those stripes. The curved lines suggest the shape of the rounded body on the flat paper.
We will have two black stripes and a black bum – that adds up to drawing five curved lines.
Step 4: Draw the wings
The last and very important body part for a bumblebee is its wings. Again, following cartoon simplification, draw these as two teardrop shapes that are attached to the back of the bumblebee.
As a final small detail, let’s mark a little “cap” on the top of our bumblebee’s head with another slightly curved line.
Adding The Finishing Touches
The last step in this tutorial is optional, but it is a lovely way to create a smooth and seamless bee drawing. You simply want to erase all of the outlines in your bee drawing by painting over them with the corresponding color of the area.
Well done for making it to the end of this detailed but easy bee drawing tutorial. We hope that you have taken a lot from our guide, and that you now feel more confident with drawing insects, using construction lines, and building up realistic layers of color.

Some Precious Drawing Tips By Charles Le Petit Fermier
- If the result is not perfect, dont worry, practice ! Training and repeating certain actions is the key to success.
- Imagination and creativity are two very important elements here. Even though we detail you and show you what to do, you can also
- make your own decisions about details and colors in particular. You have to differentiate yourself, create your style and your trademark. Find original materials, which we had not thought of, colors of all kinds, relief or different materials.;
- Above all, do not hurry, do not put pressure on yourself. Even if it can be a challenge, it is above all a fun activity. So be relaxed and have maximum fun, let your feelings and emotions transcribe.;
- Please be careful not to protrude, press too hard on your lead, or smudge your design with coloring.
- If you want a more realistic style, you can work on the shadows, tones and depth of the drawing.
- Your bee can all the more be in a minimalist style , manga, comic strip or even cartoon by thickening the contours of its body.;
The Bands And The Stinger
The bee has a body characterized by yellow and black bands that overlap. To represent this, its up to you to draw bands of the same size in the body , either straight or slightly curved.
- For the dart now, you will draw a triangle, very pointed at the bottom of the body.;
- For more realism, details are to be done at the level of the wings. It will be necessary to separate them in two, starting from the middle of the wings, draw a line following the curve of the wing which will join one end to the body.;

Drawing The Wings Of Your Bee Sketch
For the wings of your bee, you are going to use two long oval shapes. Begin with the upper wing which is significantly more narrow than the other and should begin and end at the upper point of the thorax circle. For the second wing, you can use a larger and slightly thicker oval shape that begins within the thorax circle.
The positioning and size of these two wings are essential for capturing a realistic perspective in your easy bee drawing.

Adding Dimension With Shadows And Highlights
You can see immediately that there is a significant difference between the previous step and this step, but do not be overwhelmed. This difference is thanks to shading which adds dimension and creates the right perspective. Begin by using a touch of white paint and a soft brush to lighten the neck area that separates the bees head and thorax. You can do the same at the separation between the thorax and abdomen.
While you are using white paint, add a softly blended highlight to the top of the bees eye and create a very light U shaped reflection that follows the bottom of the eye curve.
It is now time to focus on shadows. Use a small but soft brush to add black shading to the fur around the head of the bee. Focus the black particularly on the parts of the head and body that will naturally be hidden from the light, including the underside of the neck, and just after the separation highlight between the head and thorax.;As you move onto the abdomen of your bee drawing, use black shading to create alternating lines of black and yellow.
To get the smoothest blend possible, lightly dab your brush onto the canvas and gently smear it into place.
Add Value To The Darkest Areas
Step 3 is to find the darkest areas and start adding value to those areas with a 2H pencil.
Gradually darken the areas by adding more lines to the dark areas and gradually make the value lighter by reducing the lines.
Follow the shape of the bees thorax , eye, and legs. Study the reference image and identify where the darkest darks are.
Drawing Tip: Make sure there is no space between each line drawn. If there is a space, go back and fill in the line with graphite.

How To Draw A Bee: Outline The Drawing Step By Step
Step 1: Outline the eye and mouth
We start outlining the bee drawing by drawing out the eye. Next, we improve on the mandibles the bees mouth.; Add a small oval at the top, and then draw a narrower triangle with rounded-off corners underneath it.
Step 2: Outline the front legs
The next step is to draw the front two legs. These are a direct outline of the sketch, with some rounding off the sharp corners. Draw both feet as simple, thick lines.
Step 3: Outline the rear leg
Here is a new trick to learn: the pollen attached is made of tiny dust lumps. So lets draw the pollen bag with a bumpy, thin line all around it.
Then outline the rest of the rear leg with the usual smooth line as the other legs.
Step 4: Draw the hairy head and thorax
Here comes the next improvement to our sketch. Instead of outlining the head and body with a smooth single line, draw many thin hairs all around the sketched outlines.
The trick to a nice thick fur is a layer of many thin lines going in one direction, with another layer of fewer lines crisscrossed.
Also, if you do not have the patience to draw as fine hair as in the picture, suggesting just a few thicker hairs will look a bit more cartoony, but is also OK.
Step 5: Draw the antennae and the body
Here is a simple step for a change just outline the abdomen the last part of the body; and draw the antennae with thick lines.
Step 6: Draw the bees wings
Step 7: Draw the wing pattern
Step 8: Hatch the black stripes on the bees body
Bee Drawings How To Draw A Bee Pencil Drawings
Bees are very nice. Bee drawings are beautiful. They are hardworking, and they give us honey, something so rich and healthy. I have prepared here a collection of drawings of bees for you to print them and put them to color as you want. I hope you like them.
We begin with the drawings of childrens bees. Here you have a very simple way to draw a bee, so that any child can draw it. To make this drawing, you have to start by making an oval of the size you want. The closer you get to a circle, the funnier the bee will be. Once you have the oval, you make the four curved stripes from top to bottom, whose resulting stripes will be black. At one end you make the eye and the mouth, while above you put the antennae. At the opposite end of the oval you do the sting. The next thing is to put the four legs under and above the two wings. Okay, we made a bee drawing to paint.

Add Value To The Darks And Fur
The value that has been added to the background will make the bee appear lighter. Start adding in more values to the head, eyes, and body.
Study the reference image and discover where the darkest darks are and the highlights. Continue to draw dark to light. This will create the bees shape and give it a three-dimensional illusion on a two-dimensional piece of paper.
Drawing Tip: Fix any imperfections while you are drawing, like white spots or spaces you missed. You want to have smooth value changes. It is easy to overlook any perfections if you decide to go back to it later.

Creating Fur Texture And Details
In our final step before adding color, we are going to add fur textures and other details to our bee sketch. Begin by using short lines to create a segmented texture to the wings. These freehand line patterns should follow the direction and angle of the wing. While you are working on the wing, you can add some small textural dots and blobs to the base of the wing to give it more depth.
Next, move onto the thorax of your bee, using fur strokes to create texture. These fur lines should extend in an outward direction from the base of the largest wing. Continue to fill the rest of the bees body with these fur lines, following the shape of each segment carefully.
When you get to the abdomen, you can begin to use these short lines to create the signature striped patterns. For the head, the fur lines should extend in a couple of rings around the eye. You can also add some darker shading to the antennae, and do the same for the legs. These areas on the legs will be painted black in our coloring steps. To finish the detailing step, add a few squiggly lines to the pollen sack, creating a bumpy texture.
