Drawing From The Torso
I always start drawing the torso. The reason is that the torso dictates the whole position of the body. Once you have the torso and the hips placed, to draw the head and the limbs become way easier.
In my case, when Im drawing the torso Im doing it like one big part. Other people prefer to draw the ribcage first and the abdomen after. You can choose whatever method you prefer. Once I have the torso drawn, I proceed to divide the rib cage from the abdomen with a curve line. This curve line will cross the center of the torso. In his higher part will mark the end of the breastbone and the lower chest. On the sides will tell us were the floating ribs will be placed.
On top of the torso, I also draw another curve. This one will define were the clavicle will be situated. Above the clavicle, I will draw an ellipse. This ellipse will define where the neck will be placed.
As you already notice, one head is the distance between the base of the neck and the lower chest line.
Divide the torso
Finally, I like to divide the torso with a vertical line. This line goes from the neck to the hips. It is very important because it will help us to understand where the division between both pectoral muscles will be and where the belly button will be placed.
Because we are drawing our character from a 3/4 view, both divisions of the torso will have different sizes. The nearest side to the viewer will be bigger and the farthest will be smaller.
So How To Draw The Human Body
If you want to draw the human body, you should follow this simple 6 step by step process:
- Step 1: First you gotta draw the torso, with the rib cage and the abdomen. Do not focus on muscles and focus on general shape and form.
- Step 2: Draw the hips. Again make it simple. You can draw this area of the body like an if it was a short underwear.
- Step 3: Draw the shoulders and the arms. Simple shapes like an ellipse for the shoulder, tubes for the arms, and squares for the hands will do the trick.
- Step 4: Draw the legs. Use tubes for the thighs and the shins, and triangles for the feet.
- Step 5: Draw the head. You can do it by drawing an ellipse and dividing the different planes of the head.
- Step 6: Draw the facial features. The eyes, the nose, the lips, ears, and hair. All on top of your dummys head.
- Step 7: Draw the rest of the body on top of your dummy.
This tutorial can be followed no matter what medium you use, traditional or digital. In any case, if after finishing this tutorial you wanna know more about how to improve your drawing skills and become proficient in character drawing, you should check my course onHow to Draw Characters Like a Pro, when I teach the techniques and methods professional artist use when drawing characters.

How To Draw Tulip With Bud
Step 1: Start with a basic guideline measuring the height and width of the drawing. For this, you need to start with 2 curved lines as the stem. On the top of the first line draw a deep half curve with a flat top. Then on the second line draw a sleek flat oval, it will depict the flowers bud.
Step 2: Draw a curved line below the top of the half curve and it will become an oval, as you can see in the image. Then draw a straight line in between the bud and give the stem a finishing touch.
Step 3: Draw 5 curves or half downward ovals inside the half-circle. Also, draw 2 lines near the boundary of the bud. Draw 3 lines from the stem depicting the leaves.
Step 4: After the outlines, draw realistic silhouettes darkening the outlines. Draw long curved lines with pointed ends for leaves. Draw 2 petals in the bud of the flower.
Step 5: Analyse the given flower illustration and contour your drawing using the lighter and darker shades.
Step 6: Once you are done you can erase all the extra lines and give a finishing touch.

How To Draw Bodies Realistically
Drawing a human body can be quite challenging if you are not an experienced artist. This is because our bodies are quite complex, and we need to practice a lot. We need to understand the bone structure, the muscles and ligaments. So, starting to learn how to draw bodies for beginners should be surely done using guidance.
One of the biggest differences between human characters and other drawings is that you need to understand how to different poses depending on the action and personality of your character. The Ribcage And Legs In Profile
The ribcage is closely attached to the spine, and, in a reasonably fit body standing erect, the chest is naturally pushed forward.
The hip joint is ahead of our vertical axis, and this is counterbalanced by the ankle being a bit behind it. So our hip-knee-ankle line is slanted backward, and staggered again: from the hip joint to the front of the knee joint, and from the back of the knee joint to the ankle.
The overall effect of this posture is a visual arc from head to chest to feet , and when its flattened or reversed, we perceive an uncertainty or slouch in the posture.

Drawing For The Shoulders And The Arms
Once I have the torso and the hips in place, I will move forward and start drawing my limbs.
First of all, will be the shoulders. Ive seen many people drawing the shoulder like a couple of egg-shaped spheres. In my case, I do the same, but I also like to draw the top part of this inverted egg flatter. The reason is this allows the descending line of the traps to continue on the deltoids. The result is a more natural and fluid body line.
For the biceps and triceps area, I will draw a tube for each arm. This tube will become narrower on the bottom. Here will be connected to the elbow.
Drawing the elbow and the forearms
The elbow will be situated on the same height of the floating ribs, on the sides of the torso.
For the forearms, we will draw also a tube for each arm. Like before, they will become narrower on the bottom part. In this case, the bottom part will be the wrist. More or less, both wrists will be aligned with the crotch on the hips area.
For not over complicate this process too much, I will draw the hands as two fists. I will draw them quite schematically. For the fist placed frontally we will draw a big irregular square for the palm. The fingers will be drawn as little rectangles.
For the hand placed sideways, the main body of the hand will be a rectangle and the fingers again will be drawn as single squares.

Why Proportions Are So Important
Like I told you my objective here is to draw a well-proportion dummy. Teaching my students I realize for beginners is much easy if we focus on creating a dummy instead of going for muscle groups when drawing a person. Newbies tend to focus on drawing perfectly the biceps or the pecs and forget about the big picture: well-balanced proportions.
Lets start with the tutorial.
The 8 heads
As you can see in the image above, I placed 8 heads, one on top of each other. Those 8 heads will represent the ideal human body proportions. They will help us measure the different parts of the body.

Human Proportions Drawing Tips
I consistently start with the head, but it doesnt really matter what part of the body you start drawing, if youre comfortable and get a good result. If you’re unsure or are having a hard time, then I suggest trying with the head first.
Get used to drawing this basic figure with a light hand, since the finished body will be built up over it. Traditionally, the final lines are inked and the guidelines then erased , but even when Im sketching with a ballpoint pen with the intent of inking on a different sheet by transparency, keeping a light hand ensures I can see what Im doing.

The Ribcage Nipples And Belly Button
The ribcage-lungs group is the third important volume of the body, after the head and the pelvis. Simplified, it is an oval that starts halfway between 1 and 2, down to mark 3 but it is best to chop off the lower part of it as shown here to imitate the actual rib cage, as the empty part between the two volumes is important: it is soft and subject to change and it is also where the most torsion and movement happens in the spine. Its good to be aware of that and not to attach the torso and pelvis together like two blocks, as that would “block” your drawings range of motion. The width of the oval is roughly the same as the pelvis for now.
Two more details here: the nipples fall on mark 2, just inside the sides of the head, and the belly button on mark 3.

How To Draw A Human Figure
On this page, I recommend the steps to drawing a full-sized man in pencil. As you might already know, drawing a Human Face might be challenging, as only artists with lots of experience can do so with ease. Our art lessons are intended primarily for kids, so there is no need to put too much detail into the realistic Eyes and other facial features. Just do the best you can! It is important to learn how to draw portrait of a man using #2 pencil. Some people have a habit of using dotted lines as guidelines, which they later erase. My word of advice is to learn how to draw a line in one motion without being afraid to make a mistake. You have to visualize the final image while you are drawing a human figure, especially of a man in motion. Surprisingly, the most important thing in visual art of any kind is not accurate proportions and outlines of the image, but the mood or character of the person conveyed in a drawing though his or her facial expression and/or body language.
