Learn How To Draw 3d Letters With A Cheat Sheet That Gives You A Clear Samples Of The Entire Alphabet

Here are some tools that I always wished I had in my classroom lots of visuals for students that were practicing their lettering, be it just block or the more advanced 3D shapes.

Some that were new to the idea, just needed to see examples of the block letters themselves, and others that got the gist of 3D letters, maybe just needed help with a few of the more unusual ones.

The Draw Letters Cheat Sheet shown above includes pages for those that need to see block letters, and then finished samples. The Draw 3D LettersStep by Step sampled below includes step by step examples for each letter. Its intended for those that would benefit from more instruction.

I hope this set covers all your bases. Now the titles and lettering on all those posters and report covers might be just a BIT easier to do.

Matching up different lettering styles is a great way to get differentiation in your pieces. This posterized quote uses two different styles one that is more simple and realistically written and one that is more scripted and elaborately written. The two styles balance each other and dont take anything away, but still allows for the main message to be read loud and clear.

Play Around With The Spacing Of Your Bubble Letters

When drawing bubble letters, you can play around with the spacing of the letters in a word.;

I personally prefer to have smaller spacing between the letters and having them clashing with each other.;

If you want the letters to overlap each other, remember to add an outline otherwise, it could hurt the readability of the word.;

Lets Start With Shading

I see many beginners struggling with adding shadows properly, and it can be tricky if you are just getting started.

Once you understand the underlying principle, the process is quite simple and straight forward.

The position of the shadows depends solely on the direction of the light.

Lets make this easier to understand using our letter A as an example

So in this example, we can see that the light source comes from the top right side.

This means that the shadows will appear on every bottom and left side basically the opposite side of the light source.

Here is an example

What if the light source comes from the opposite side?

Simple,

we just add the shadows on the opposite side of the light source!

Now we just need to color the letter and add a nice outline to it.

    But, let us keep simple for now.

    Seurats Dots And Dashes

    The style of artist of Georges Seurat is a playful inspiration for an artful alphabet font. Using dots and dashes of color in the impressionistic pointillism style creates an optical treat as the energetic filler for hand-drawn letters.

    Materials list:

    • Pencil
    • Prismacolor markers

    1. Draw chunky block letters with a pencil. I made some of my letters overlap one another.

    2.;Using the tip of the end of a marker, add dots to the letterforms. Applying different amounts of pressure will create different-sized dots. Within each letter, use a dark, medium and light shade of the same color to create variation.

    3. Erase the pencil lines so the dots and dashes create the letterforms.

    4.;In other letters, use the bullet tip to fill the letters with dashes going in a variety of directions. Combine dots and dashes within a letter for even more variation.

    How to Draw Bubble Writing Real Easy – Letter I

    As mentioned in part 1, it’s worth knowing how to draw bubble letters because of their fun appearance, simplicity and usefulness for all kinds of cheerful lettering purposes

    This page continues with my own method showing how to draw bubble letters based on a circle, so that they look very bulgy. The image comes first, then some notes on how to draw the letter.

    Here we go with some slightly more complex bubble letters containing lovely puffy diagonals S, Z and N:

    This bubble-letter ‘S’ is cute, I think, with its little blobby nose and tail. The important steps are 2 and 3. It’s not too clear on the diagram above but what I did in 2 was to place a dot on the bottom-left-to-top-right diagonal, halfway between the centre and the outer edge. The little triangular holes that define the S-shape should be positioned with their innermost edge centred on those dots. Notice too how the triangles are defined further by the two horizontal lines added in step 3. That horizontal is what makes the nice bulgy, bubblish ‘chest’ and ‘back’ of the letter, and makes it recognisable as an ‘S’.

    Yes this does look like a bendy 2. It reads just fine as a ‘Z’, though. Notice that although this is very similar to a backwards S it is not quite the same. The dividing lines emerging from the little internal triangles point down to the left and up to the right, not straight across.

    ‘M’, on the other hand, looks a little shy:

    And ‘W’ is a different character again:

    O.K., here are ‘R’ and ‘F’ together:

    Bring In Natural Elements

    Amber Phillips

    Accents of leaves decorate this hand-lettered piece, and add in a nice element of nature. The leaves grow from different parts of the letters, so everything feels connected and deliberate. Had the leaves not been connected with the letters, it wouldnt have had quite the same effect and would have seemed disjointed.

    Without a doubt, hand-lettering is its own form of art, and it is incredibly beautiful. It takes practice, skill, and patience. It is clear to see that in each and every one of these examples, the artist behind them is very devoted to their craft.

    Hand-lettering can often be confused with typography and calligraphy, and understandably so.

    The differences between the three are slight, yet important. Calligraphy is writing with a single pass to create written art, hand-lettering is a composition created with drawn letters, and typography uses prefabricated and designed letters.

    Essentially, hand-lettering is the illustration of letters that come together to create a single, unified piece. If you were to take each letter out separately to create an alphabet, it would be quite the mishmash.

    Now Lets Add Some Highlights To Our Bubble Letters

    Now that we added the shades, its time to add some highlight to make them really pop!

    First of all, lets understand what the highlights are.

    Highlights are areas in an object that is closest to the light source, where the light is reflecting.

    The easiest way to know where to add highlights, in this case, is basically the opposite side of the shadows.

    Lets take a quick example of our letter A with the previously drawn shadows.

    We are not going to put the highlight all the way to the edge of the letter, we are going to leave a bit of space which will make the letter look more round shaped.

    Here is an example

    Keep in mind your color selection!
