Hello to all animals! For most of us, cats are an integral part of our lives, but especially children are drawn to them. Sometimes animals become the main friends of children. Its great! What child doesnt want to draw a cat?

That is why we have created a simple and understandable instruction for any child to learn how to draw a cat in steps. Lets get down to the most interesting thing, get out the pencils and start drawing the cat step by step.

Time needed: 15 minutes.

How to Draw a Cat for Kids

  • Draw a circle

Lets start with the head of our cat. We draw a head in the shape of a circle, small irregularities are acceptable.

  • Draw the body of a cat.

We also draw an oval just below the head, it will serve as the basis for the body of our future cat.

  • Lets draw the ears and tail.

An important component of any cat will be its ears and of course its tail. Draw the ears in the form of triangles, which will be slightly inclined. In drawing a ponytail, you can rely on our illustrations or show your imagination.

  • Draw paws.

What will our pet stand on? Of course, on your paws! Draw four lovely elongated ovals to connect with our torso.

  • Draw a muzzle.

Lets draw the eyes, nose, and facial expressions of the animal. Do not forget to make our cat the kindest eyes and a sweet smile.

  • Draw stripes on the back.

Draw stripes on the back of our cat and separate the tip of the tail.

  • How To Draw A Growling Lion

When drawing a head of a big cat in profile, the process of creating the base would be slightly different. The cross reference lines on a sphere may not be as useful as drawing a head facing the front, but we also need it to know where to begin.

    • Make a somewhat shoe-shaped angular cone extension from the base. Remember that different big cats have different head profiles. In this case, a lions muzzle is thick, combined with a very muscular prominent jaw.
    • The extension of the base should be at least more than half of the thickness of the sphere, extending from above and below.
    • Use the cross reference mark to identify the center of the sphere, and use that to level the eyes from the muzzle accordingly.
    • In this case, the exposed ear would appear larger because it is closer in view. And still, it is diagonally aligned with the eye .
    • Like before, the mouth opening would start from the lower edge of the muzzles base, and extending downwards with the lower jaws outline connected to the sphere.
    • Once all the features are set in place, define it properly and add more details (such as the brow line and the ripples of a stretched mouth.
    • Proceed to the inking process when you are satisfied with your sketch.
    • Erase the pencil marks and begin applying the mid tone. The cheek and a portion of the front of the muzzle should appear brighter.

Keep on elaborating the gradation as you apply the brighter and darker tones accordingly.

    How To Draw Cat Paws

Cats paws are unique their deadly claws are hidden inside cute balls of fluff. All this fluff, again, makes them quite easy to draw. Let me show you! A typical cat has five fingers but uses only four for walking. The fifth one is called a dew claw, and its positioned like your thumb. It doesnt normally touch the ground. Each finger has a pad beneath, the same you have under your fingertips. Theres also one additional pad called pisiform . You can feel the bone it covers on the outer side of your wristin humans its not covered by any pad.

The hind paws have only four toes, and no pisiform either.

You can sketch the paws while drawing the skeleton. Imagine theyre pieces of wire, and that they must support the cats body.

Draw the basic shape of each paw. Notice that the 3D view is a combined version of two 2D views .

Add the outlines of fingers and toes. Dont forget about the dew claws in the forepaws, placed like your thumbs.

If your cat is short-haired, you can add ovals in the front of fingers and toes to accentuate the shape of the bones beneath. Also, dont forget about the pads, if theyre visible, and the pisiform in the back of the forepaws!

Finally, the outline of the paws. In short-haired breeds the tips of the claws in the hind paws can often be seen, so you can add them as a nice accent.

Hi everybody, and welcome to a new NIL-Tech drawing tutorial: “Cat”.Besides fish, cats are one of the most popular pets to have in American families today. Around 94 million cats in the USA are the happy owners of humans, and we wouldn’t have it any other way! Today, we are going to draw one of these beautiful creatures with graphite pencils from scratch.

Here are some interesting facts about Cats:

    1. A cat has the power to, in some cases, heal themselves by purring. A domestic cat’s purr has a frequency of between 25 and 150 Hertz. This happens to be the regularity at which muscles and bones best grow as well as fix themselves.

    2. Cats only use their meows to speak with people, not each other. The only time they meow to communicate with other cats is when they are still kittens to signal to their mom.

    3. There is a stereotype that cats love to drink milk. However, research studies state that cats are, in fact, lactose intolerant and also must avoid it entirely.

    4. The longest living cat on record, according to the Guinness Book, belongs to the late Creme Puff of Austin, Texas. It lived to the ripe old age of 38 years and three days!

    5. Sir Isaac Newton was the one who created the concept for the pet door that many pets use today to get outdoors.

How To Draw A Maine Coon Cat

Step 10: Draw the nose near the top of the muzzle by first lightly sketching a triangle. Make the top of the Maine coon cat’s nose wavier as you darken the lines. Add the nostrils on the sides too. For a Norwegian forest cat, move the shape of the nose a bit more to the right since they have pointier muzzles. Add a line under the nose and another line that connects the nose to the eye on the right.

Step 11: Use the circle at the bottom as a guide to draw the Maine coon cat’s muzzle. Draw the mouth under the nose and use the circle as a guide to draw the chin under the mouth. Use quick, short strokes to represent fur. Use the circle as a guide to draw the sides of the muzzle curving up. Use quick, short strokes for a furry texture. For a Norwegian forest cat, don’t make the muzzle so wide. Draw the sides thinner.

Step 12: Use the arc on top of the head as guides to draw the Maine coon cat’s ears. Follow the path of the guides as you darken the lines and create the structure of the ears. Add the tufts of hair on the tip of the ear using quick, short strokes and add some fur inside the ear the same way. A Norwegian forest cat’s ears should be closer together at the top, and the tufts at the tip should be smaller.

Drawing A Cat Sitting Front View

This pose is the most difficult to draw. The cat sits and looks at you, with its head slightly pressed to the ground.

    1. We need to draw three circles that will overlap each other. The smallest process is the cats face. We divide this circle in half this is necessary for easy drawing of eyes, nose, mouth, and mustache. Next, draw the most extensive circle the central body part. The middle ring, most of which is almost invisible, is the back of the body.

    2. Divide the circle of the head in half again and add the ears. Based on our process, we make lines that will slightly increase the width of the head. Then we start drawing the cats mouth and nose. Dont forget to draw two front legs and a tail.

    3. In this step, we draw in detail the cats face. We draw eyes, nose, antennae. We draw the fur, as shown in the picture, and draw the ears.

    4. Working on the front legs and tail. We draw the legs closer to the side of the head and cover them with wool and draw the claws. Cover the tail with wool.

    5. We finish our drawing. Remove all the auxiliary lines, cover the cat with fur, and add shadows.

  • Identifying Classic Tabby Cats Look for blotchy patterns. Classic tabby cats tend to have blotchy patterns across the body, leading some people to colloquially refer to classic tabbies as blotched tabbies.
  • Identifying Mackerel Tabby Cats Look for thin stripes. The stripes on a mackerel tabby tend to be very narrow, unlike the wide, swirling stripes of the classic tabby.
  • Identifying Ticked Tabby Cats Look closely at the hair. Unlike other tabbies, ticked tabby cats do not typically have body stripes. Instead, each individual hair on a ticked tabby has stripes or bands of color variation.
  • Identifying Spotted Tabby Cats Notice the broken lines. Spotted cats earned their name because of the broken lines in their coat patterns.

    Add The Darkest Layers

Finish by adding the darkest values to your drawing. This should sharply contrast the lightest values, for best results. You may also wish to lightly erase the lighter areas of the drawing to sharpen the contrast. This is best done with a precise eraser- a new cap eraser or a precision eraser would work best.

If you are experienced with drawing with pencil, you may wish to add a layer with ink. This could add a cool effect! I recommend using a very fine tip marker for this, and not a ballpoint or fountain pen.

    How To Draw Cats

Drawing cats is actually easy if you follow each step carefully. I suggest you start drawing with a cats skeleton.

Now, you need to consider the cats position first, whether you want to draw a sitting cat or a running one. Remember, the bones define the felines range of motion and its position. You can draw by seeing a photo of a feline or just from your imagination.

Do not be scared. You do not need to draw the exact bone shapes. Just remember how long they are and how the bones are connected. The advantage here is, all the four-legged animals have the same bone anatomy. So, I guess you do not have to struggle a lot.

If you find it difficult to remember the bone structure of a cat, you can follow a trick. Think of the bone groups as an oval. This way, the drawing will be much easier. Also, pay extra attention to the spine.

Next, you need to keep in mind the proportion of the bones and joints. The legs can not look bigger than the cats body. So, look at the cats closely to get an idea. Observe them sit, walk, and run.

Most people get confused between the forelegs and the hind. The position of these legs changes with the motion. You need to observe the change very carefully. Also, if you are drawing a real cat, then the positions are important. Dont think of cartoon cats.

The hind legs of the cats can reach almost 120 degrees rotation. However, the head of the cat always stays in the same position throughout the run.
