Avoid The 3 ‘h’s Hit Hang & Hook

  • Necklaces SHOULD NOT Hit right at the bustline. Draw an imaginary line from nipple to nipple. This is your bustline. Avoid necklaces that end at this line.
  • Watch out for necklaces that Hook your humps Long necklaces have been very popular lately. Unfortunately for us, this style is a no-no because it’s hard for the chain to stay in the right place. Most of the time it will fall to one side or the other
  • No Hanging off the bustlineIf we wear long necklaces they have the tendency to hang off end of our bustline like a giant swing. This is a no fail way to draw unwanted attention to your chest. It’s like saying, “Hey Look at Me! My boobs are so big I can turn an ordinary piece of jewelry into playground equipment!”

Necklaces are “one of the earliest types of adornment worn by humans.” Prehistoric necklaces made of bones, shells, plants, and feathers have been found.

In ancient societies, necklaces had magical or religious meanings. Later, they came to be symbols of wealth and status, using precious metals such as gold and silver and rare gemstones.

The most important part of the necklace is the band or chain. Pendants or other decorative objects are attached to this band.

Today, some necklaces have become a part of popular culture. Rappers and hip hop artists are known for wearing chain necklaces.

The plot of the blockbuster film Titanic features an exceptionally large blue diamond made into a necklace called the Heart of the Ocean. The necklace was fictional, but replicas of it are often sold to fans.

The Hope Diamond, on display in a similar setting to the necklace in our tutorial, is one of the most famous necklaces in the world.

It’s ownership has been documented for 400 years, and it is now on display at the Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.

Duplicate The Link And Rotate The Second Link

How to make a necklace – Gold Chain

To duplicate the link you’ve created add the Array Modifier:

  • In Object mode select the link
  • Press the Add modifier button and select Array from the drop down list. You’ll see that there are now 2 links in a row.

A link in a chain is rotated and partially inside the previous one. To make the row of links follow that behaviour we are going to use an empty mesh:

  • In Object mode select the menu option Add -> Mesh -> Empty mesh
  • Select your link and in the Array modifier section :
  • Deselect the Relative Offset button
  • Enter the name of the Empty mesh you’ve just added in the Ob: box under Object Offset
  • Select the Object Offset button
  • Select again the Empty mesh and:
  • Move it downwards until the second link is in the right place. You’ll see that, by moving the empty mesh you are moving the second link while the first one stays in place.
  • Rotate it perpendicularly to the direction you’ve move it before . To rotate it exactly 90 degrees, type 90 in the keyboard. You’ll see that rotating the empty mesh will rotate the second link while keeping unchanged the first one.
  • Increase the number in the box Count of the Array modifier from 2 to another number and you’ll see that more links appear in the row, each one rotated and with a relative position with respect to the previous one following the position and rotation rules you’ve set with the Empty mesh.

Measuring The Right Necklace Length For You

  • 1Measure your neck size. Neck size is probably the most important measurement for determining which necklace length will work best for you. To measure, wrap a soft tape measure around your neck, keeping the tape measure parallel to the floor as you measure. Then, add 2 to 4 inches to your neck measurement to calculate your minimum recommended chain length.XResearch source
  • If you are a person with a neck size measuring 13 to 14 ½ inches , an 18-inch necklace is a good choice for necklace length.
  • If you have a neck size measuring 15 to 16 ½ inches , a 20-inch necklace would be a good choice.
  • If your neck size measures 17 to 18 ½ inches , a 22-inch necklace would be a good option for you.
  • 2Choose a standard length if the chain canât be customized. If you cannot customize the necklace length to your neck size, simply choose the second size up from your neck size as your minimum necklace measurement. For instance, if you are a person with a neck size measuring 17 inches , your minimum standard should be 20 inches instead of 18 inches .XResearch source
  • 3Take your height into consideration when choosing a length. In addition to neck size, your height can also change the position of a necklace around your neck. Long necklaces can overwhelm shorter people, and short necklaces can get lost on taller people.XResearch source
  • If your height is below 5 feet 4 inches , stick with necklaces measuring between 16 and 20 inches .

“Every chain has got a weak link.” – “Chain of Fools” by Aretha Franklin

Chains are a ubiquitous part of popular culture. Chains are used both literally and figuratively in songs such as Aretha Franklin’s “Chain of Fools” and Sam Cooke’s “Chain Gang.”

Chains are used to make jewelry ranging from delicate to robust. Hip hop and rap musical artists have popularized large chain necklaces.

Scroll down for a downloadable PDF of this tutorial.

The chain also lends itself to common maxims. For example, the phrase “the weakest link” references the links of a chain. Sometimes this phrase is rendered “a chain is only as strong as its weakest link.” This is usually used to refer to groups of people or things that can fail if one member does not succeed.

Chains themselves have been a common tool since antiquity. The coil chain is the oldest and most common type, having been in use since at least 225 B.C. It is made from straight metal bars that are wrapped around one another and bent into oval shapes. This tutorial represents this type of chain.

Chains have a variety of uses. since medieval times, chains were used make jewelry, to decorate clothing, or to indicate rank or office.

Others were used for restraint, such as the “ball and chain,” which was used to keep a prisoner from escaping. This type of chain often appears in older cartoons, such as the Looney Tunes. Handcuffs today serve a similar purpose.

    Considering Your Body Type

    How-to Make a Multi-chain Necklace
  • 1Think about your height. In general, pendants tend to work better on taller people. If you’re below 5’4″, a pendant may look overwhelming. If you are on the shorter side, opt for a pendant necklace that sits above your collar bone. This way, it will add a touch of decoration to your outfit without overwhelming you.XResearch source
  • People of average or tall height can generally get away with a variety of different necklace sizes. If you want a longer pendant, one that goes below your collar bone, this can be flattering if you’re average height or tall.
  • The size of the pendant itself does not make a big difference depending on height.
  • 2Evaluate your face type. Different styles go better with round, oval, or heart-shaped faces. Look in a mirror and see if your face forms a circle, oval, or heart. Use this to decide which type of pendant would work best with you.XResearch source
  • Opt for a longer pendant if you have a round face, preferably one with a heavier charm. This will tug the chain downward, creating a v-effect.
  • Rounder faces would benefit from slightly shorter chains and lighter pendants. You want the chain to be rounded slightly to match your face.
  • If you have an oval face, you can wear any type of pendant.
  • 3Look at your neck. Shorter necks, or necks with lots of wrinkles, benefit from longer chains. Opt for a pendant necklace between 20 and 24 inches in length. Longer necks can generally wear any length of necklace.XResearch source

    Diy Pearl Daisy Chain Necklace

Once upon a time, many moons ago, I designed jewelry for my own fine jewelry label. It was a self-taught hobby turned business and I guess you can say that was when my “DIY” journey began. I would spend endless hours wire wrapping precious and semi-precious stones with fine gold wire and 14k chain. And it wasn’t until recently, when I pulled out the ol’ fine component box, that I revisited this tried and true method of jewelry making. I was excited to make a more refined and sophisticated version of the beaded daisy chain bracelet – with 14k gold chain and tiny pearls, it’s kinda perfect for the fall and winter months ahead. Hope you take a stab this and enjoy your mini wire wrapping lesson!

    Selecting An Accompanying Outfit

  • 1Wear a pendant with a turtleneck. Pendant necklaces often look nice with turtlenecks, especially during the colder months. You can try getting a pendant that matches the color of your turtleneck and wearing it with that outfit.XResearch source
  • If you’re shorter or fuller figured, remember to go with a smaller pendant.
  • 2Try a pendant outside a t-shirt. Pendants usually look good when worn outside t-shirts. Plain t-shirts especially can be spruced up with the presence of a decorative pendant just outside the shirt. This is a simple, minimal look that can be flattering on most people.
  • 3Wear a pendant with a v-neck. Some people prefer a pendant on bare skin. If you prefer this, opt to wear a pendant with a v-neck. Be careful, however, to make sure the chain is not too long. A longer chain may need to be paired with a very low-cut v-neck, or a plunging neckline, to get the desired effect.
  • 4Wear orbs and pearls with a solid colored top. If you’re wearing a solid colored top, especially a darker color, this can go great with orbs or pearls. Opt for pendant necklaces that contain these kinds of jewelry. This will brighten up your outfit by adding a splash of dramatic color.XResearch source
  • Lighter pearls and orbs may work better on darker tops.
  • For example, you can wear a clear or milky orb with a black turtleneck.
  • “A simple monochrome outfit will go to the next level of oomph when paired with a statement piece, be it a necklace, shoes or a bag.”

Layering necklaces is an art and when you master it, it can be absolutely dreamy. Start with picking your shortest chain first, so a choker or shorter pendant necklace, then build out from there.
