How To Draw A Water Bottle
wikiHow is a wiki, similar to Wikipedia, which means that many of our articles are co-written by multiple authors. To create this article, 20 people, some anonymous, worked to edit and improve it over time. This article has been viewed 140,991 times.
This article will show you how to draw a clear water bottle with a pencil and paper. This does not consist of very many steps and will be an easy object to draw.
Draw A Contour Line Drawing
Well begin the drawing with a contour line drawing using the H graphite pencil. This means that well concentrate only the outlines that we observe from the subject. These contours not only include the lines that define the boundaries of the glass, but also the shapes of different values that we see.
To ensure accuracy, we can use measuring techniques. Using your pencil as a measuring tool, you can make comparisons between different areas of the drawing. Look for opportunities by comparing larger shapes first.
In this case, the drawing thats created is the same size as the printed reference photo. This means that we can measure on the photo reference and use the exact measurement on the drawing surface.
Using measuring we can draw the basic shape of the glass, including the ellipse that represents the opening at the top. Ellipses are a distortion of a circle. In many cases, an ellipse is simply an oval. But depending on the angle, an ellipse can be more complicated.
Well also add the shapes of value that we observe within the glass and the water. Look for contrast when you draw these shapes. If you find it difficult to see these shapes of value, try squinting at the subject. By squinting, we simplify the details and often easily recognize the larger shapes of darks and lights.

Refine The Drawing And Add A Cast Shadow
The glass and water are nearly complete. Well now need to add a cast shadow underneath and behind the glass. But as youll notice from the reference photo, were not dealing with an ordinary cast shadow.
The glass and the water are transparent objects. Light passes through them, instead of being reflected back towards the light source. The light actually becomes more intense as its refracted, resulting in an area of very light value where wed expect to see the darkest shadow.
Before we develop the darkest areas of cast shadow, well first need to define the shape of this strong light. Well first define the outer edges of the shape with a 2B pencil.
Then well use the white charcoal pencil to fill in the shape with a heavy application.
A blending stump is used to smooth this application and work the material into the texture of the paper. This results in a more natural and consistent shadow.
We can then extend the area of darkest tone to fill in the remainder of the largest area within the core shadow. Youll notice that there is primary area of cast shadow. This is a shape that resembles a skewed version of the shape of the glass. This area of darkest value is called the occlusion shadow.
But the cast shadow itself extends outward a little further. This area is slightly lighter, but still considered part of the cast shadow. Since this area is lighter, the HB pencil is applied and gently blended with the blending stump.
Draw A Fashionable Cup
Make the polygon a hit and draw a stylish cup line with the tool.
When you have drawn all the curves, erase the Atari polygon. With this, I was able to draw a line on the edge of a fashionable cup.Even if it is a complicated figure, it will be easier to draw if you replace it with a simple figure and then develop it.

Establish The Composition Of Your Drawing
As with all sketches and drawing from life, you will only ever produce a genuine looking drawing if you study the subject directly from observation. This will allow you to focus on and investigate the subject carefully in the round.
Please take a look at this drawing and sketching video course I have created. Use this link.
Drawing from direct observation will also enable you to look closely at the details and variations of shadow and reflection that you will need to render and sketch with your pencil.
The first task you will need complete is organizing the layout or composition of your drawing. As this is an essential a simple shape, the primary consideration is the placement of the glass.
Centrally position the glass on a piece of paper with a light source emanating from one side. Additionally, of a white piece of paper beneath the glass will make it stand out visually. This also has the benefit of separating it fro the rest of its environment.
You are now ready to begin the process of drawing and sketching the glass onto your sheet.

Develop The Darker Tones And Shadows
With the highlights in place, we can begin darkening the values with softer graphite pencils. Well start with an HB pencil with moderate pressure. As the values become darker, the contrast also increases, making the highlights appear lighter.
Developing the darker tones requires additional applications over areas that were covered with the H pencil previously. We dont cover all of these areas again, however. Some areas of the lighter graphite are allowed to remain visible.
This is a process that requires patience and since were making several passes with different graphite pencils and white charcoal, it may feel as if youre drawing the subject several times. This is to our advantage since each time we add a slightly darker application, we may find errors that should be fixed or opportunities to make the drawing more accurate. Take your time and be patient. This slow and layered approach is essential for developing realism in drawings.
After the HB pencil has been applied, we can use the blending stump to smooth transitions of value. Here again, the blending stump is not used everywhere. It is just used in areas that have a transition or in locations where the tooth or texture of the paper is a distraction.
Again, this application is gently blended in areas with the blending stump.
Apply The Finishing Touches To Your Drawing
Once you have completed adding shading and detail, you may feel that you finished your drawing. However, it is a good idea to check your picture and see if you can perfect it.
Looking at the drawing from a distance is an excellent way to look at the overall look of your drawing. You may need to add darker areas of tone or blend and graduate the shading further.
Turn the page upside down as we mentioned earlier is also an excellent way to spot imperfections and alter aspects of the drawing which you dont quite like or feeling need rearranging.
Another task which will improve the overall look of your drawing once it is complete is to clean the edges of the page will an eraser. This is an effective way to reduce the number of marks and smudges that appear on the page as you are drawing.
Once you have completed the drawing and corrected any errors, your drawing will be ready for display.

Draw The Base Of The Cup
To get the correct shape of the base of the cup you will want to draw an oval shape sort of like the cup is see through. Drawing the whole oval instead of just a half-oval will help you insure that you draw it correctly.
Draw the bottom part of the oval vertically wider than the top.

Drawing Of Distant View
The next step will be adding details to the background. Just repeat the same actions as we did for the foreground: apply light strokes with a pencil to the water surface that is far from the closer view.
Again, dont push on the pencil and make the strokes wavy and short these marks should look much lighter and softer, thus use a 3H pencil with a harder core.

Develop The Strongest Highlights And Light Values With White Charcoal
Next, well concentrate on developing the lighter values and highlights with white charcoal. Make sure that your pencil is nice and sharp and begin making applications where you see the lightest values.
Since glass is both transparent and reflective, youll notice that some of these highlights are found in areas that you may not expect. Well see the highlights in standard locations, like on the side of the glass that is closest to the light source. But well also see them on the opposite side, within the glass, and in areas within the water.
The best practice is to simply observe the reference photo and note the shape and locations of these lighter values and place them in the same locations in your drawing.
After the highlights have been added with the white charcoal pencil, we can use the blending stump to smooth some of the applications. The blending stump can also be used to tone down the intensity of the highlights if necessary.
How To Draw A Coffee Cup:
Step 1: before starting any drawing start its outlines. Analyze the height and with of the cup and draw a vertical line with 2 horizontal marks.
Step 2: Draw a small flat oval on the top of the line. Then draw another big oval overlapping t6he first one with the line drawn as a guideline.
Step 3: From the side of the first oval draw 2 curved line going downward. In this step draw one more oval inside the first one and form a border.
Step 4: Double the line of the big oval, and further draw one more oval at the end of both curved lines drawn in the last step. On the sidewall draw a small circle followed by an arc handle guideline.
Step 5: Draw a deep curved line on the side of the cup. Double this line with a pointed end and closed top end. double the base of the cup with a small oval.
Step 6: Draw one more line to the lower line of cup handle and give it a 3d touch. Draw one more oval to the top opening of the cup.
Step 7: Outline the overall drawing with the dark pencil and bold line. Keep in mind all the overlapping lines.
Step 8: Draw the outline for coffee and foam on the top of the cup. Shade the cup and saucer plat randomly.

Things To Consider When Applying Tone And Shade
It is always a good idea to use a tissue to lean after you begin applying shade. A spear piece of paper will also suffice this will prevent the drawing smudging as to progressively add tone.
Before you begin drawing, it is a good idea to sharpen the pencil correctly. This is best achieved with a good quality sharp craft knife.
This will allow you to achieve the best point on the pencil for adding additional detail.
When shading and adding value hold the pencil on the side halfway down the barrel.
If will enable you to achieve lighter free marks. Dont make the mistake of holding the pencil at the tip. This will result in dark lines which you will not be able to erase easily.
You are now ready to begin the application of graduated shading and blending onto the reflections created in on the glass and water.
Draw The Outline Of The Glass
Begin your drawing by sketching with faint lines and holding the pencil halfway down. This will ensure that you dont press too heavily on the paper.
First, you will need to draw I faint rectangular shape onto the page into which the form of a symmetrical glass can be outlined.
At this stage in the drawing, it is also a good idea to think about the position of the glass in relation to the page and its placement.
For example, do you wish it to be drawn central or to one side of the page?
The first thing you will need to draw is a rectangular shape. This will enable you to draw the forms related to the glass in proportion.
Once this rectangular shape is established, you can add a centerline. The center line is the central point around which all of the ellipses will be drawn.
Another important consideration before you apply any essential details is where to draw the eye level, as this will determine your viewpoint.
A higher eye level will result in a drawing looking downwards, for example, if you usually looking at the glass on a table beneath you. Alternatively, you may wish to draw the glass from a seated viewpoint where the viewpoint is not as steep.
If you choose to fill the whole of your page in a close-up viewpoint, you will still need to consider the angle and perspective of the ellipses you will need to draw at the initial stages of your drawing.
Also, make a faint mark oh the paper to indicate where you will need to draw the water.
