Vintage Suitcase Feeder By Reallifedog

This is a really unique feeding platform concept from reallifedog that is based around a vintage suitcase . There are a couple of tricky steps required to build this type of feeder , but the extra effort should pay off given how awesome the finished product looks.

Note that youll need to adjust these plans to suit the suitcase you select. This means that you should look at these plans as inspiration, rather than a step-by-step guide. For example, youll need to select the wood for the top after finding or buying the suitcase.

Skill Level: Difficult

  • Flat metal strips for legs
  • Glue

Unfortunately, we couldnt find a video demonstrating anything remotely similar to this project. However, the designer provides tons of photos and pretty clear instruction in the link above, so just start there and use your noggin to figure out the best process for your project.

Step 3: Keep Ants Out Of Dog Food Bowl

Creating a water moat is the most effective solution to ant-proof your dogs bowl because we know that ants can swim. Herere how to do this:

  • Grab the pan that you have prepared. If you happen to have two dog bowls and one is larger than the currently used bowl, you can use this one too.
  • Take your dogs bowl and put it in the middle of the pan.
  • Fill the pan or the larger bowl with water. The water level should not be too high that it spills over the dog food bowl but should be high enough for ants to drown if they dare to cross the water moat.

Instead of placing the bowl in a shallow pan of water, you can also set a petroleum jelly barrier around the base of the dogs food bowl and storage bin. Or you can put a few drops of peppermint oil on the cotton ball and wipe the surface of the feeding area with it. Both are excellent natural repellents for ants.

However, some dogs might hate the strong, penetrating odor of peppermint. So be sure to see your dogs reaction first before continuing further use.

Add Some Color Or Graphics

You can paint or stain any of the wood-based projects detailed above, and, if you pick a water-repelling paint or stain, it may also help the stand last longer. Just be sure that you allow the stand to dry completely before letting your dog use it so that the fumes dont irritate his sniffer.

Alternatively, you can also use contact paper to decorate the stand. Contact paper will provide some protection, its easy to apply , and it comes in an array of colors, designs and patterns. Of course, you can also add things like decals to the stand if you like.

Raised dog bowls are a check, trendy way to serve your dog’s his or her favorite meal. Some owners find that they also help reduce spills and messes. Unfortunately, store-bought ones can be very expensive, and even if you find that perfect design for the right price, it may not be the right height for your dog. Fortunately, making your own raised dog bowl is quick and easy, and it does not have to be very expensive at all!

Step 4: Pop Your Bubbles

Now its time to pop all the bubbles! Once your resin is mixed let it sit in its little cup for about 2 minutes. This will let all the micro bubbles rise to the surface so you can pop them with your heat gun.

Simply move your heat gun over the surface of the resin and watch all the bubbles pop! Easy peezy lemon squeezy!

Once youve mixed everything together and popped all the bubbles its time to pour! Go ahead and move your resin cups off to the side so we can get started.

Interesting Facts About Dogs

Many, many years ago, people became friends with gray wolves yes, wolves!

When people first discovered how smart wolves were, they began teaching the wolves how to help them with their work.

They learned:

  • How to pull small wagons and carts to help people move things from one place to another.
  • How to gather and keep sheep and cows together into herds so they could be fed, milked or moved to another place.
  • How to sniff out birds and animals for food and warn people when there was danger nearby.

Over time, the great, great, great grandbabies of those friendly wolves became what we know today as dogs.

Step 9: Add Dog Food And Enjoy

Now theres only one step left adding your dog food! We have *ahem* 8 dogs and as you can see they all love this Wellness CORE small breed dog food.

Its a natural diet mainly composed of meat so it fills them with energy and helps them to live long lives which is my favorite part! These guys are my babies so I want them to be around as long as possible.

You can see 5 of our little guys in the picture below from left to right we have Bowser, Cocoa, Koopa, Bitty and Cinnamon. Bitty and Cinnamon are my babies while the other three are technically my Mamas dogs but theyre together often enough they think theyre a pack! Daisy my Moms older dog didnt come over for dinner time and my sweet girl Sugar was with her puppies! Youll see them in a minute.

*Want to try Wellness Core for yourself?

So far I think it was a hit! All of the dogs came to take a look and even our smallest dog Cinnamon was able to get a few mouthfuls by standing up on the sides. Shes only 5 months old so shell be able to eat normally soon enough.

Until then shes pretty darn cute!

Since we have so many dogs I wanted to make this little box long enough to hold 3 dog bowls but you could make it shorter and only feature two bowls. That would be a very easy modificaiton!

You could also add hinges to the back of this baby if your dogs are rough eaters. My babies are pretty easy on their food dishes so I didnt feel the need for hinges!

Ready for the puppies?!

Step 6: Pour Your Resin

ð? How to Make a Dog Food Bowl Stand | DIY

This is the best part where we finally start to see it coming together! Resin pouring time!

I decided to run all of my resin in long stripes across the face of the board you can do a completely different pattern if you like but I love how this turned out!

I started by running the blush across the board, then the white and then the clear. You can make the lines a little wavy with some going off the sides or not all the way across they dont need to be perfect!

In fact its more interesting if they arent perfect!

Of course, when youre pouring the resin across your board some will fall off the edges thats ok. Just try not to pour too much off the edges in this step or you wont have enough to finish!

Step 2 Make An Outline Drawing

Once you have completed the proportions sketch create an outline drawing and clean up the sketch/guidelines afterwards of the dog and add the details such as the eyes, nose, mouth and patter of the fur.

This step should be fairly simple as long as you correctly proportioned the dog in the previous step.

They May Help Reduce The Chances Of Bloat

Bloat is a potentially life-threatening medical condition that occurs when your dogs stomach fills with air and twists on its axis, thereby trapping the gas inside. Historically, elevated dog feeders were thought to be one of the best ways to reduce the chances of bloat.

But unfortunately, the truth of this situation is not entirely clear. At least one study seems to suggest raised feeding platforms may increase a dogs chances of suffering bloat. Another study suggests that it is not the use of an elevated feeder that increases a dogs risk, but instead the ratio of your dogs height to the height of the feeding platform that matters most.

Ultimately, youll just have to discuss the issue with your vet and make the best choice you can.

Sleek And Minimalist Feeding Platform By Ugly Duckling House

DIY Welding Project: How to Make a Dog Bowl Stand

If you are looking for a quick-and-easy feeding platform for your pup that still looks good, this project by Ugly Duckling House may be a great option. This platform requires minimal cutting, and it doesnt require you to learn any fancy joining techniques for the legs.

Despite being a simple and easy-to-construct project, the final result looks great and should make any DIYer proud.

Skill Level: Easy

  • Wood glue
  • Paint

We werent able to find a video explaining how to build an exact duplicate of the project detailed above, but this one is pretty much based on the same idea and features similar legs .

Step 2: Paint Your Box Lid

Now that our little lid is perfectly cut its time to paint this baby. Of course, you can leave the wood exposed but its plywood so its not the best grade of wood .

Instead I sealed my box lid with spray paint. Two coats of spray paint will seal the wood so that your resin wont sink into the wood.

Plus Im using clear resin for parts of my design so painting my wood is perfect that way the unpainted wood wont show through the resin! Just make sure to hit all the edges as well as the sides so that the lid will be sealed from all angles.

The spray paint dries pretty quickly but you want to make sure its 100% dry before you add your resin. On the other hand if you havent painted your little box yet make sure to paint it now so that theyre the same color!

Step 3: Mix Your Resin

Now its time for the fun stuff resin! Were going to be covering our little lid with resin and letting it drip off the sides so make sure to cover your work surface with freezer paper so that the drips and spills are contained.

Im working on my porch since you need to be in a well ventilated area away from kids/pets but this baby is large and hard to move when resined so make sure you can cover it and leave it to dry for at least 24 hours. My porch is perfect but I wanted to make sure no resin would actually touch the porch so I covered a large area with freezer paper and then covered the seam in the freezer paper with silicone mats just in case any resin made it through the seam.

It might be a little overkill but it made me feel better!

Once you have your area prepped and all your supplies near at hand its time to get started. Put on your protective gear and then separate your colors into their cups.

Youll need 100ml of blush, white and clear with holographic glitter & rose gold flakes so those 3 colors will need larger cups. The rose gold glitter and copper oil based paint only need about 50ml so smaller cups will do. Ready to mix?

Now that your colors are ready go ahead and add 400ml of resin into your large mixing cup and stir for 2 minutes then separate into your smaller cups and mix until they look consistent.
