Fresco makes sketching easy with a powerful suite of drawing tools, but you might be working on paper with the plan to import into a digital space later. Either way, start with the basic shapes of the rabbit and go from there.

Lay down the basic proportions.

Especially if youre going for a more realistic bunny, rather than a cartoon one: The easiest way to approach it is to break the animal down into simple shapes. The best way to do that is to look up a ton of photo references and then think, What shapes do I see in this animal? says illustrator Chioma Iloegbunam.

To start, draw two small circles that are slightly wider than they are tall. The first will be the head of your bunny the second will be the body. Both shapes should be relatively close to one another.

Depending on the perspective of your reference photo, you might need to make the body shape longer than you would for a cartoon bunny. The goal is to sketch the circles, squares, and ovals that you see in your reference, so you can then start working on the pose and perspective of your drawing.

    Painting The Easter Bunny Drawing

I usually complete the activity over two days or periods. On day one, we complete the drawing and the tracing with a black marker. One day two we paint. If your class hasnt used watercolor paints before, you should demonstrate how to make proper brush strokes with a paintbrush and the water to paint ratio. I usually use larger paintbrushes instead of the small ones that are typically included with watercolor paint sets.

Use watercolor paints to paint the details of the bunny first, starting in the center and working your way outward. Add two pink cheeks as well. Remember to leave the Easter Bunnys body white.

Paint the background behind the Easter bunny in a bright color like yellow, purple, pink, or another spring color. These colors will make your Easter Bunny pop from the page and look great as a display!

Once everyone completes their Easter Bunny directed drawing, place them somewhere to dry completely. Dont make a mistake and hang them or put them upright. Paint and water would drip down onto the snowman. Once dry, I recommend hanging them up or creating a fun bulletin board display for Easter.

    My Inspiration For This Drawing

Here is a fun fact. I live in Australia, where bunnies are considered a pest.

So in Australia the symbol for Easter is a bilby. Bilby is an Australian animal, like a bunny, but with larger and more pointed ears. So I made my bunny drawing a little like a bilby. See the big pointy ears?

Here is what a real bilby looks like. Still cute!!

There are even chocolate Easter bilbies at the grocery store . Amazing!

Bunny Drawing Easy | How to Draw Bunny Step by Step For Kids

Now that you have the outline for the head and ears done, we can focus on some details as well as adding the arms for your Easter Bunny drawing.

For the eyes, draw some small oval shapes that have some even smaller round shapes within them.

Then, there will be a rounded triangular nose beneath the eyes, and this will have some curved lines coming out from the bottom for the smiling mouth.

Add some squared teeth to the roof of the mouth, and then draw the bottom of the open mouth.

Finally, use some more of those jagged lines for the furry arms of the Easter Bunny dropping down.

Connect these with a rounded line near the top of the arms for the tip of a large egg the bunny will soon hold.

Materials For Easter Bunny Directed Drawing

This Easter Bunny directed drawing can be adapted for any primary classroom or completed at home with a few simple materials. You will need white art paper, pencils, erasers, fine black markers or Sharpie pens, and watercolor paints. I recommend proper paper meant for art because it can handle the water and paint and shouldnt tear the paper if used properly.

When teaching this art lesson to a class, I recommend standing front and center and using a large easel and chart paper to draw on. Students can sit at their desks with their supplies. I take things slow and draw each step and give each instruction one at a time. I give my students plenty of time to follow along and ask questions.
