Its finally time to add those distinctive flamingo legs in this part of our guide on how to draw a flamingo!

This flamingo will be striking the classic flamingo pose theyre often seen in. For the leg closest to us, the front line will go straight down.

The other side of the leg will too, but there will be a small lump near the middle for the knee.

The leg further away from us will be thin as well, however it will be bent at an angle so that that curled foot is slightly above the water.

Speaking of the water, you can draw that in with a straight line underneath the legs.

Before we start drawing a pink flamingo, lets get to know this bird a little. Flamingos are a genus of birds that are part of the flamingo family and the flamingo order. It is a southern waterfowl with pale pink plumage and a long neck and legs. We have depicted such an attractive bird in its classic form.

Time needed:;20 minutes.

How to Draw a Flamingo for Kids

  • Begin by drawing the head and neck.

You need to start by drawing the top of the head in a semicircle shape and from it draw the lines of the neck that end in wavy lines. The shape must be 2 shaped

  • Add an eye and beak.

Start with a black dot in the center of the head to indicate the eye. Draw the beak in the form of an inverted triangle. Note that the flamingos beak is large and hooked.

  • Draw the flamingos body.

Draw the body at the base of the neck as shown in the instructions.

  • Add the birds wing.

Draw a wing in the middle of the torso, and to indicate the feathers, draw several small, unfinished ovals on one side.

  • Start drawing the legs.

From the sketch torso, draw two parallel lines downward, at the end of which a foot with 3 toes.

  • Draw the second leg.
  • Let’s Start Drawing A Flamingo Step By Step

Step 1. Sketch the shape of the flamingo’s head . Then outline the bird’s beak, its shape is slightly curved downwards, and the long line of the neck in the “s” shape.

Step 2. Outline the form of the flamingo’s body; it looks similar to a drop that lyes on the side.

Step 3. Outline the first leg, marking the ankle with an oval. Then add the second one to create a one-leg standing pose of the flamingo.

Step 4. Draw a tiny eye and, after that, outline the contours of the drawing.

Step 5. Draw the contours of the bird’s wing. The feathers in the top part of the body draw with a softer pressure. You can divide the bird’s body into parts to make the process of drawing the feathers easier.

Step 6. Draw the contours of the flamingo’s neck, connecting the head and the body. Draw the leg, the sketch from the previous steps is the base. Add the contours of the visible part of the tucked leg.

Step 7. Refine the contour of the wing, noting the feathers. Then create an illusion of soft feathers in the top part of the body. The direction of the pencil lines accentuates the contours of the flamingo’s body.

Step 8. Draw the longer feathers. They can be much more fluffed up and lay in different directions or come together at the end of the tail.

Step 9. Hatch the flamingo to create more volume . Accent the bottom part of the bird’s body as well as the areas in between the long feathers. Also, add more shadows on the bird’s neck as well as legs.

Defining The Shape Of The Flamingo

in this step, we will define the form of the flamingo a little bit by adding some distinct forms to help us easier identifying the form of the flamingo.

We are going to start by adding the beak of the flamingo. It is just a simple banana shape.

Then we are going to define the shape of the body a little further by adding a rounded triangular shape on the right side of the body.

This shape will, later on, be a little more defined to show that these are feathers.

Next, we will add the legs of the flamingo.

Flamingos like to only stand on one leg and they very often just hold the other leg in a relaxed pose.

So we will replicate this to further convey, that this bird is indeed a flamingo.

Now add the lower part of the legs and connect them with a circle-like shape.

And then we will just add the feet.

The feet have a very distinct shape. I drew the top one by drawing a line, that is curved down.

Then I made two points between the origin and the end of the curved line and connected them with c-shaped lines.

I drew the other foot similar only that I started out with a straight line and then I drew another straight line that goes a little further down and then I just connected them with a very steep c-shaped line.

And we are done with the general shape of the Flamingo. Now lets get to drawing the outlines and details.

Many students may already be familiar with their curvy neck, long legs and pink feathers, but might need a little help in seeing how all those shapes go together. I recommend starting with the basic oval body first, then the round head, and then connecting the two with a graceful neck. Its good to make sure those main elements are in place before the beak and legs are added.

Teachers looking for principles to tie in to projects could certainly use this flamingo for a conversation about BALANCE, one of the Principles of Design. How To Draw A Cartoon Flamingo

I found a beautiful picture of Flamingo and decided to copy it as if in a mirror.

Draw the overall outline of the figure:

The trunk is oval, but with pointed tail it takes the form of the drop.

The neck is curved like S and looks incredibly thin:

The legs are very long and very thin.

They look so thin that it is not clear how they can support the weight of the body of the Flamingo. But in fact, it is even more surprising Flamingo, like other semi-aquatic birds very often stands for hours on one leg and does not get tired. The Flamingos beak is adapted to filter a sludge from the bottom of reservoirs. Flamingos feed on worms and crustaceans that give their feathers red.

Drawing The Basic Shape Of The Body Of The Flamingo

We are going to start with a simple ellipse that is going to be the base for the body of the flamingo.

The ellipse should be slightly elongated and slightly tilted horizontally.

Draw all the following lines with your pencil, because you will erase them later on.

Now add a well curved s-shaped line to the left side of the ellipse. This is going to be the neck of our flamingo.

Then add another line parallel to the first s-shaped line. But make sure that the lower part is a little thicker and the top part of the neck is tapering down and becoming thinner.

And finally, add a second elongated ellipse as a guide for the head.

And we have drawn the general shape of the flamingo!

How to Draw a Flamingo Step by Step

    Hi everybody, and welcome to a new NIL-Tech drawing tutorial: “Flamingo”. Flamingos are familiar even to those that have never seen one in the real world. The tropical wading birds have long legs with backward-bending knees, long curved necks, and they are pink.;

Here are some interesting facts about Flamingos:

1.;Flamingos feed by stirring up mud with their feet. After that, they reach down and scoop up a beakful of mud and water. Their beaks are designed to strain animals out of the dirt, and the water is expelled. This occurs as the flamingo’s head is bottom-side-up.

2.;The color pink comes from beta-carotene in the crustaceans and plankton that flamingos eat. Zoo flamingos will turn white if their diet is not supplemented with live shrimp or flamingo chow containing carotenoid pigments.

3.;The male and female of a mating pair build a nest together. Also, they both sit on the egg while it incubates for about a month.

4.;Some flamingos think it less complicated to steal a nest that’s already been built, so mating sets should protect a nest from other flamingos along with killers.

5.;When a flamingo hatches, both mom and dad take turns feeding it: first with an exceptional fluid baby food they make in their throats called crop milk, then they start giving a regular food as the baby ages.

You Can Refer To The Simple Step

    Step 1

Keep track of a small circle at the head of the head. Then, add a small moon for the beak and draw a line through it for the mouth. Create a dot on the face of the flamingo for an eye.

    Step 2

Make a flamingo! Draw a circle of medium size but do not close! Instead, create a pointed shape at the end of it for the tail.

    Step 3

Watch two S-like lines together for your neck. Heres a tip: make sure S is backwards!

    Step 4

Draw the wings, now, below the body, making it pointed at one end but curved over the other.

    Step 5

Under the wings, draw two straight lines down for the front leg. Be careful! In the middle of the leg, form a small circle. Thats for the flamingos knee!

    Step 6

Now, hind legs bent forward. Heres a tip: turn your paper towards its side, and track two lines as you would a wide V, ensuring that you do not track on the front leg! Do not forget that knee! Follow a small circle just above the bend in the foot.

    Step 7

Add your feet by tracing two small V-shapes at the ends of each leg. Finally paint the bird.
