Blocking Out Shape Adding Detail

5.1 Draw the hood, add a window to see how it will fit. Make sure to follow the rules of perspective you’ve been practicing make sure the verticals are exactly 90 degrees using your ruler and the edge of the page, and make sure diagonals correspond to their Vanishing Points.

5.2 Finish the hood, and add the windshield.

5.3 Add some headlights.

5.4 This part is really important – you’re creating the axle for the wheels. Find the midpoint of your tire and draw a line toward the LVP.

5.5 Repeat for your rear tire. Notice that the two axles will also pass through their partner wheel on the right side of the truck.

5.6 Fill in the wheels this part is really important, but pretty hard for beginners, so it’s acceptable if your lines are a little bit “hairy”. Try to divide each ellipse into chunks, and reflect them across one-another as demonstrated in Figure 5f

5.7 Closeup of wheel subdivision. It’s easier to break the wheel up and mirror it than it is to get it right in one go without special tools.

Best Electronic Switches: Quality Rockers Or Gang Switch Panels

Having a good switch can make or break your ATV wiring job. Rocker switches are available in a variety of sizes and styles, the only thing that holds you back from the number of accessories you do with your ATV wiring is switch space. If youre run power directly from the fuse block, through the switch and directly to your electrical accessory, you need to make sure that its capable of handling the amperage load, much like choosing the right wire size. For really heavy loads, you can run your accessory off of a relay that is activated by a rocker switch, which is a preferred way of getting the job done but requires more space and wire to mount the relay in a safe location.

A newer, cleaner and much more convenient way of switching multiple electrical accessories can be done by using a gang switch. These are similar to the power block previously mentioned, but taken to the next level of cool. Most kits come with a heavy duty fuse or circuit breaker that you wire in between the battery and the control box. The control boxes come in numerous fused outlets that you wire your accessories to and are controlled by a small remote panel that is easily mounted on UTV dash panels or even a fender panel on an ATV.

Editor’s Choice: Power Distribution Hubs

If you think you will be adding several electrical accessories, our number one suggestion is to to install a power block or hub. This gives you an all-in-one location that provides fused power distribution and ground locations in one convenient location. These power blocks or hubs are available with a wide number of terminal connections to cover any number of electrical accessories you want to add to your ATV wiring system. These style hubs are not water-tight, but they dont really have to be as long as the terminals are covered.

Safety Concerns Of Atcs

Safety courses and educational literature has reduced the number and severity of accidents among ATC and ATV riders. As cornering is more challenging on an ATC than with a four-wheeled machine, properly leaning into the turn is required, to counterbalance the weight and keep the machine stable. Operators may roll over if caution isn’t used at high speeds. The lighter front end and smaller footprint of ATCs present both a flipping and steering hazard under acceleration and on inclines. Lateral rollovers may also occur when traversing steep inclines. However, in most terrain with the proper riding technique and safety gear, this issues can be mitigated. ATCs require unique techniques to ride properly, and turning lean requires more exaggeration than ATVs Throttle steering is another technique commonly used on ATCs in soft terrain and at high speeds, leaning to the inside of the turn and manipulating the throttle to break traction with the rear tires, resulting in the machines turning on axis while maintaining a forward direction.

Helmets And Other Safety Equipment

About a quarter of all injuries sustained in ATV crashes are to the head, yet very few riders wear helmets. Wearing an approved helmet is the best way to prevent serious head injury.

The Land Transport Rule 2004 states that if an ATV is being used on a road and there are no seatbelts fitted , the rider or driver and passengers have to wear an approved helmet. The rule provides an exception to the requirement to wear a helmet for farmers if theyre travelling slower than 30km/h, from one part of their farm to another or to an adjoining farm.

For off-road use, theres a design standard specifically for ATV helmets and purpose-built ATV helmets are available. An ATV helmet should provide enough protection if youre travelling under 30km/h. If youre going to be riding faster than this, you need a more substantial helmet .

When quad bikes are being used for work purposes , the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 also applies. The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment advises that wearing a helmet is a practicable step under this act.

The Transport Agency also strongly recommends that you wear other safety equipment, such as strong footwear, gloves, protective pants and eye protection.

Proper Wire Sizing: Flexible Copper Low Voltage Primary Wire

Easy Way ATV Draw ||ATV

If you take the time to read the installation instructions of the accessories youre wanting to wire into your ATVs electrical system, most will provide a recommendation for wire size and length to use. For example, if youre doing an ATV light bar install and it calls for 14 gauge wire to be used and you only use 16 gauge because its all you have. If you use that smaller gauge wire, it may not be capable of handling the amperage draw and get hot. This could potentially lead to the wire shielding starting to melt away leaving exposed wires and possible electrical shorts. Yeah, were talking about extreme situations here, but theyre totally possible

There are plenty of kits that offer a wide variety of wire sizes and colors for you to keep in your shop, and be sure to get the stuff that is flexible so you can wire it around your frame and other components.

Carrying Passengers On Atvs

Some quad bikes are equipped with large seats to allow the rider to shift weight to control the vehicle not to carry other people. Passengers restrict the riders mobility and add weight, making it harder to control and more prone to tipping over.

Passengers should only be carried on ATVs that have been specifically designed for this purpose. These ATVs come fitted with a special passenger seat.

First Excercise: Learning Two

Sketching a Five-Spoke Wheel for Your Car Sketch

It is important to understand that an artist is nothing more than an illusionist. In order to make convincing designs or illustrations, artists must use a two-dimensional medium to mimic objects found in the third dimension, and fool the eye into thinking it is viewing an object which has depth and breadth.

That’s where perspective comes in.

Perspective is what gives an accurate impression as to the height, width, and length of objects in relation to one-another. To put it another way, it’s what makes stuff look real if you don’t execute it correctly, it’ll look weird.

Just ask M.C. Escher – he did it on purpose.

Now, there are many forms of perspective, but in this tutorial we’re going to focus only on one: Two-Point Perspective. We’ll get started by practicing making a simple box shape.

1.1 Using your pen and ruler, draw a horizontal line, spanning most of your paper. This line is called your, “Horizone Line” .

1.2 The ends of your line are called the “Left Vanishing Point” and Right Vanishing Point respectively. They are called as such because they are the points at which stuff vanishes in to the horizon. These are also the titular two-points our entire perspective relies on these two little dots.

1.3 Draw two diagonal lines, one extending from each vanishing point, so that they converge near the center of your paper. Ensuring the ruler is straight on the edge of the paper, draw a single vertical line where your two lines converge.

Establishing Perspective For Our Vehicle

We’re going to go about building our vehicle slight differently than the way we constructed our cube. The main reason is most vehicles rely on wheels for travel, and in order to adequately block out space for our vehicle – a little truck in this case- we need to establish a wheel base. You will be able to execute this task much more easily using the skills you practiced in Exercise 1.

2.1 Establish your horizone line, a single diagonal, and a vertical crossing perpendicular to it. This will be the left side of our truck, and serves as the base for the wheels of our vehicle.

2.2 We need to decide how tall our wheels will be. I “eyeballed”, or approximated a height. Try and make sure yours looks similar to the one in Figure 2b.

2.3 Now we must choose a width for the tires. I chose to measure out two centimeters with my ruler, and use that as the width.

2.4 Now we star blocking out the first tire, extending a diagonal line from the lower left-hand corner of our first diagonal, to the right-hand point of the tire width we blocked out.

2.5 Draw a vertical to indicate the boundaries of the tire, reaching from the top right point of the tire-width, straight down into the first diagonal. This little square is where your first wheel will fit, though drawing the wheel will come later.

2.6 Draw another diagonal within your “wheel square” to make an “X”. This will allow you to find the midpoint of your square.

High Quality Connectors: Waterproof Electrical Connector Kit

When you have to terminate or crimp on connectors to your ATV wiring, you want to make sure that youre going to be using high quality, waterproof connectors. If youve never done any kind of electrical wiring before and dont know the first thing about crimping wires, take some time to watch some videos on YouTube. Youd be surprised that there are much more than funny dog, cat and human trick videos on there. Having a good crimp can mean the difference between wires breaking loose and shorting out or staying where you need them to be.

If you have broken wires that need to be spliced back together, life has recently gotten much easier. If youre like some of our staff trying to use a solder gun to get wires back together, you can be left with a big ball of melted solder and a few strands of wire touching each other. There are some new solder seal wire connectors that not only solder the wires together with heat from a heat gun, but they also feature heat shrink tubing that seals off the ends from the elements. These are a must have in any DIY mechanics tool box.
