Draw Various Male Faces
I noticed that when drawing males with thick outlines around the mouth, they turn out looking more feminine. You can lighten the outlines to make a pair of lips look more masculine.
- Drawing narrow eyes can make a face look more chill and relaxed. The more visible the iris is, the more alert, intense, surprised, innocent or even angry the face will look.
- Sharper, broader angles can make him look stronger, more masculine
- Try different eye shapes too. I tried to make him look southeast asian by turning his eyes up at the ends, making the tip of the nose less pointy and giving him a pair of well defined lips.
- Try to turn your character from a man into a boy by simply making his jawline narrower and smoother so his bones look less developed.
- See if you can age him by adding different types of facial hair too!
How To Draw Anime Girl Hair For Your Anime Girl Drawing
Drawing hair is difficult. Here are some tips on drawing hair for your Anime girl face drawing:
- The first step is give yourself a break even if it does not come out great the first few times around. A lot can be learned from observing hair in real life. Learn from how the light hits the hair, and how the form is defined, not by individual strands, but by the masses of the hair and their interaction with light.
- Realize that although volume differs from haircut to haircut, all hair has some volume. This means that as hair sits on the scalp, it will produce some extra space that you have to draw. Given that we defined the head in the Loomis construction , it should be fairly easy to add some volume to that line of the skull, and make sure placement of the hair on the head looks realistic.
- When the face is turned in angles you are not familiar with, use reference to understand how hair will sit on the head.

Note: Remember to use an HB pencil with light pressure for all steps so you can easily erase your guidelines in the end. I used a lot of pressure in the examples so you can clearly see what Im doing.
I know there are a lot of measurements in this tutorial, but I think its very important, especially if youre a beginner. Once you understand proportions you can try this tutorial again without the ruler method.

Finishing Your Side Profile
Above the eye, add a curved eyebrow and begin adding in the details for the ear. With your pencil, go back over some of the features that youve already added so that theyre darker and more prominent. From here, youll be adding the final touchthe hair.
Draw swooping lines over the top of the face circle and along the left side. For a ponytail, add a half-oval or knot shape with wispy lines coming from this as individual hair strands.
Adding in simple pencil strokes for the hair is the final step in finishing your drawing!
Once youve added the final touches to the hair, your profile drawing is complete!
Lets Add The Guidelines For The Eyes Nose And Mouth
In the previous step, we already established the position where the nose and eyes go. So all we will do now is further adding guidelines to feel our way towards the right placement of the features of the face.
The top line is just a straight horizontal line that is indicating where the hair ends and the forehead starts.
The second line from the top is the line where the eyes will later on go. I also added a small area, marked by two lines left and right from the centerline. This distance is the distance between the eyes and it will also establish the size of the eyes. So keep that in mind when drawing these in!
Then I added a small circle above the third line. This circle will indicate the tip of the nose and the third line will indicate where the nose will end.
And finally, I added a line, that is slightly under the point where the jaw curves towards the chin. This line establishes the size and placement of the mouth.
Now we will add another parallel line underneath the second line. This line will establish how big the eyes are going to be.
The eyes are exactly one eye size apart from each other!
These measurements are idealized this is by no means true for every human face but by idealizing these measurements we artists have a rough guide that we can follow to draw a face or anything really, accurately. You can choose to play with these measurements once you have gotten a feel for the human body and the face.
The eyebrows generally are a little wider than the eyes.

Fill In The Facial Features
Within the eye ovals, draw two circles with darker shading on either side. This will make your eyes stand out from your drawing. Youll also want to start adding some light shading on the inner corners of the eyes, up the sides of the nose, and down both cheeks.
Light pencil strokes are the best way to keep your face drawings simple.
Draw The Eyes And Eyebrows
On the line labelled eyes, split the face into 5 equal sections. Make sure you take the entire width of the head into account.
Note: Thanks to Pranab Mahajan for reminding me to add this little detail If you find it difficult to split the face into 5 equal sections, measure the width of the head using a ruler and divide your number by 5.
Example: If the widest part of the head is 6cm, divide it by 5 to get 1.2cm. Then split the head into sections of 1.2cm each.

How You Can Draw A Girls Face In A Cute Way
When looking at an illustration with a girl in the main spotlight, the first thing most people examine is her face. Rather, an overall appeal of an illustration is greatly enhanced and immediately recognizable as a cute picture, just by drawing a cute female face. Today, Ill show you how to draw a cute face easily, even for beginners.
Begin Adding Facial Details
From the bottom left curve of the circle, draw a light line down for the back of the neck and another line underneath your chin curve on the right. About halfway down the circle on the right, draw a line outwards that then curves back in towards the circle. This will form the nose.
Adding in the nose and mouth first helps you to figure out where the eyes should be positioned, as shown by Skillshare teacher Gad Ounelfe.
Just underneath the tip of the nose, draw a short line inwards with a short line above and below to form a sideways M shape for the lips. Moving back up to the top of your T-shaped guidelines, draw a sideways V with dark shading at the widest end for the eye. The front of the eye should be roughly in line with the back of the nose and lips to ensure that everything is proportioned correctly.
Make sure that your eyes, nose, and mouth are all aligned to keep your profile in proportion.

Draw The First Draft Of Facial Features
Lets also cut in from both sides of the circle, and create the area for where ears will go .
Okay, this next stage is super important, so keep your focus and energy to get through it. We will now begin to use the markers from Step 2, to carefully place features onto the face, in a very draft-like way.
If you are using a pencil, press lightly and focus more on the overall shape and placement of the feature rather than the details. Eyes can be styled to look like ovals, for now, the nose can be adjusted to just a simple extension of the face. The lips can be simplified as well. We are not looking to draw the final beautiful image we are simply looking to help our minds in the next stage. That is to say, we are placing down a brief sketch for the eyes, the nose, the lips, and ears, to use as an underdrawing in the next stage of the drawing.
It is completely okay, if, at the end of this stage, your drawing looks like a sketchy mess , as long as you can easily identify where you can draw over it.
Keep adjusting your lines and your sketch, to fit the style and expression you are going for. Stop when you are happy with your progress. You should feel like what you have is a good summation of what is to come in the next step. More importantly, you should feel like you have a good base to draw over confidently.
The Lower Eyelid And The Pupil
The lower eyelid describes a slightly flatter arc than the upper one. It does not start directly at the end point of the upper eyelid. The upper eyelid goes a little further outward. In addition, the lower eyelid can curve slightly upwards on both the outside and inside. In a laughing person, this outer curvature is particularly pronounced because the laugh muscles push the outer edges of the eyes upwards.
Depending on how important this facial characteristic is to us, we can draw this line several times.
Place the pupil so it lies against the upper eyelid. This creates the effect of the eye looking directly at us.

Complete The Skin Shading
Start from the left side of the face and work from the outside to the center. This will help to keep the shadow effect that youve already started on the left side of the nose. Shade with your darkest pencil along the outside edge of the face, moving lighter as you approach the underside of the center of the eye. Keep the shading light here until you start to reach the dark shading thats already in place next to the nose.
Adding darker shading on the side helps to mirror the shadow effect across that side of the face.
Working up to the forehead, keep your shading light as you move up the outside edge above the left eyebrow. As you shade towards the hairline at the top center of the face, keep your pencil as light as possible. The middle and right of the forehead should be some of your lightest shading to highlight the shadow coming down the left side of the face.
As you shade, think about where light would naturally hit the face and lighten your touch accordingly.
Continue to shade lightly across the right side of the face, adding in slightly darker shading directly underneath the center of the lower lip. As you move onto the neck, shade from left to right, keeping the dark shading for around three-quarters of the neck with a small triangle of lighter shading on the right side. Finally, shade the inside of the ears on both sides in both light and dark patterns to reflect where light would naturally fall.
Fill in some of the finer details as you go.

When drawing any kind of expression, the eyebrows can do most of the work. Exaggerating a the curves of your eyebrows can change a lot on the expression of your character. Remember, when sketching up and drawing, to try and exaggerate the expressions and your lines, it gives more personality and a different motion to your drawings.
Draw The Cheeks And Jawline
Draw the cheeks and jawline by connecting chin to the circle. Dont forget to keep your lines light. Were going to give the face more definition later. The lighter your lines are, the easier it will be to erase and make changes.
Important: Before we move onto the next step, erase the horizontal line inside of the circle.

How To Draw A Face For Kids
Step 1 Draw round shape for the face and give the outlines as shown.
Step 2 Draw the lower part of the face which shows the characteristics of a boy or a girl. Start to make the eye.
Step 3 Draw circular eyeballs and give thick strokes for male eyebrows and thin in case of female. Mark the nose.
Step 4 Draw simple hairstyle as your favorite cartoon heroes.
Step 5 Give details to eyes and ear. Lastly, erase the outlines.
Draw The Top Of The Head
Before drawing any parts of the head or face it can be helpful to draw a straight vertical line through the middle of your page/drawing area. This line can act as a guide to help you see if both sides of the head/face are even in width. It can also help you center the drawing on page.
Towards the upper end of the line draw a circle that will represent the top of the head. Be careful not to draw it too high up though as you will need to leave some room for the hair.

Falling Direction Of The Hair
This step is not about drawing slow cautious lines, but about drawing the hair in a sweeping and brisk manner. Of course, we don’t draw every single hair, but rather study the fall directions of the hair at the different places. Later we can define them with a few clear strokes. Hair grows in tufts, and within these tufts it all grows and falls in similar directions . I’ve created several tufts of hair and hairstyle areas in the image quite arbitrarily. There are no limits to your imagination. Hair is always the fun part.
Draw Final Lineart Over Your Sketch
In this final stage of our drawing, we will attempt to draw over our sketchy messy lines to complete our drawing of Anime girls face. Three things to focus on as you do this:
- This is the step where you must try to draw with swift, beautiful lines. To achieve this, try to put down confident pencil strokes that come from the shoulder and the elbow, and less so from the wrist.
- You must attempt to see not just the detail you are drawing but also the entire drawing of the face at once. Yes, focus on the detail, but try to draw it with the larger context of the face in mind.
- Finally, attempt to do away with sketchyness of the previous step. In certain areas of the drawing, you will have multiple sketchy lines, you will have to exercise your judgment to find the best path for the line and draw the new, fresh, crisp line only in that one path.
With the above three ideas in mind, lets begin to draw over our sketch.
You should feel confident when drawing your lines. Anime and Manga art relies heavily on beautiful line art, and lines that dont carry some confidence dont appear beautiful to the eye.
If you are struggling with confident lines, try the follow techniques:
Once you try the above, come back to our drawing of the Anime girls face, and try to focus on producing confident, clean lines, akin to the ones you see in your favorite Anime and Manga art.
