There will likely be times in your life when you will be working in a group, possibly many times. You may have to lead a discussion as part of a school assignment or you may be responsible for leading a discussion in a work setting. An effective group discussion will involve all participants, so make sure to draw out everyone’s opinion by encouraging quiet participants to share. It is equally important that you value each member’s opinion and all contributions by capturing what is communicated on paper as you go. Welcome new topics as they come up but be sure to direct the discussion toward some kind of conclusion. With a little knowhow and by being perceptive and proactive you can lead a great group discussion.
Why Do You Need Facilitation Skills
If you want to do good planning, keep members involved, and create real leadership opportunities in your organization and skills in your members, you need facilitator skills. The more you know about how to shape and run a good learning and planning process, the more your members will feel empowered about their own ideas and participation, stay invested in your organization, take on responsibility and ownership, and the better your meetings will be.
Use Body Language Of Our Own
Using body language to control the dynamics in the room can be a great tool. Moving up close to a shy, quiet participant and asking them to speak may make them feel more willing, because they can look at you instead of the big group and feel less intimidated. Also, walking around engages people in the process. Don’t just stand in front of the room for the entire meeting.

An Example: Sketching A Product
We illustrate below how these steps could result in a simple wireframe for a product-detail page.
Step 1: Since our design is for a desktop webpage, we start with a blank canvas of size corresponding to a common browser window.
Step 1: Identify the right aspect ratio for our wireframe.
Step 2: We add a top navigation bar and search to our wireframe.
Step 2: Add navigation and search to our wireframe.
Step 3: Draw the largest element in the design. Since the wireframe represents a product page, at this stage we focus on displaying product-related information such as name, description, and images.
Step 3: Add some common components like a header, a large image, several small images, and some body text.
Step 4: Add additional details such as dropdown box for selection options and a button to add the product to the shopping cart.
Step 4: Add remaining details, like dropdowns and buttons to our wireframe. Because the button is the main call to action on the page, we made sure to label it.

Learn The Cluster Or Group Of Muscles
Drawing human figures is easier when you know the overall shapes of the muscle groups.
Its a common mistake to try to learn the names of every muscle.
All you have to do is to understand the forearm is in the shape of a ham hock and learn how that shape looks at different angles.
An easy way to draw the muscles is by relating them to simple shapes.
For example, the thigh is a football shape with the ends cut off as referenced in the above image.

What Is Your Strongest Quality
Many people feel uncomfortable with intimate questions at first because they want to appear modest.
But truly we all want to feel validated about our positive qualities and have others recognize this about us.
People will usually follow up by asking this question of you, and it creates a positive feeling and bond between you.
This inquiry is one of the best to ask to really get the conversation going and make a good interaction.
Give Yourself A Temporary Pass On Hands And Feet
The biggest issue that artists tend to face is drawing hands and feet, especially when youre making sketches of people.
Even for seasoned artists, this can be a serious point of contention.
For artists that are trying to learn how to draw people for beginners, it can feel impossible.
More importantly, it can be incredibly frustrating.
If you look online, plenty of artists dodge drawing these extremities entirely.
It is for this reason that we believe you should give yourself a total pass on drawing these kinds of features.
Since this is something that trips up seasoned artists, it can be exceptionally defeating for beginners.
This does not mean that you have to avoid drawing them entirely.
However, it does mean that you need to not hold yourself accountable for how they turn out for a while.
Focus on learning how to draw all of the other attributes, and circle back to perfecting this later.
Refining this specific skill is something that doesnt need to be done on day one.
It can also make you frustrated and impact the way that you see your drawing abilities.

Watch The Group’s Body Language
Are people shifting in their seats? Are they bored? Tired? Looking confused? If folks seem restless or in a haze, you may need to take a break, or speed up or slow down the pace of the meeting. And if you see confused looks on too many faces, you may need to stop and check in with the group, to make sure that everyone knows where you are in the agenda and that the group is with you.
How To Create Randomized Groups
Enter each item on a new line, choose the amount of groups unders settings, and click the button to generate your randomized list. Don’t like the first team? Just click again until you do.
Fairly pick teams without bias. No need to draw names out of a hat. No need to do a grade school style draft or put hours of thought into the most balanced teams. The most fair dividing method possible is random.
Mix up your to-do list by generating random groups out of them. For example, enter all your housecleaning activities and split them into seven groups, one for each day or one for each person.

Interventions Try Using These Interventions When Disruption Is Happening During The Meeting:
- Have the group decide. If someone is dominating the meeting, refuses to stick to the agenda, keeps bringing up the same point again and again, or challenges how you are handling the meeting:
- First try to remind them about the agreed-on agenda. If that doesn’t work, throw it back to the group and ask them how they feel about that person’s participation. Let the group support you.
Consider Your Art Style When Learning How To Start Drawing People
No two people have the same art style.
For beginners, there is generally a period of drawing like other people.
In fact, this is a really effective way to learn.
Mirroring the art styles or other artists is great for helping you practice drawing what you see before you.
This can be helpful in unearthing your own style and can give you plenty of practice.
However, art style can have a significant impact on how to draw basic figures.
People who prefer to draw portraits, their people will likely have very specific traits.
It is likely that they will have more definition and more real-world focus.
However, for a person who is drawinganime poses, it is likely that the people will look completely different.
While both are correct in their own right, comparing them isnt necessarily fair.
When you begin to draw people, think about what kind of people you want to draw as a start.
This will help you to stay true to the brand and manage your techniques over time.
Knowing the style you want to draw in will help inform you on how to sketch a person.
You also want to think about the style you want to draw in when you are learning how to draw dogs, how to draw cars, and other things.

Sketch Out Body Poses Before You Begin Drawing
A great way to perfect your learning of how to draw people for beginners is to practice with their body poses alone.
Before you put your character into an obscure position, sketch out what their body pose is.
This doesnt have to be what you carry into a final draft.
However, it will help you work out some of the more technical details before you move forward with the drawing.
Roughly sketching body poses is a great way to familiarize yourself with drawing people.
It is helpful to learn the basic shapes and positions a person might be composted of.
This will act as a basis for your process when you begin more complex drawings.
Knowing how your person will be formed will help you to visualize where the details fall.
Its important to sketch out the body pose, or gesture drawing, before diving into all the details.
This really helps to capture the mood, energy, or overall feeling of the pose.

So How Is Facilitating Different Than Chairing A Meeting
Well, it is and it isn’t. Facilitation has three basic principles:
- A facilitator is a guide to help people move through a process together, not the seat of wisdom and knowledge. That means a facilitator isn’t there to give opinions, but to draw out opinions and ideas of the group members.
- Facilitation focuses on how people participate in the process of learning or planning, not just on what gets achieved
- A facilitator is neutral and never takes sides
The best meeting chairs see themselves as facilitators. While they have to get through an agenda and make sure that important issues are discussed, decisions made, and actions taken, good chairs don’t feel that they have all of the answers or should talk all the time. The most important thing is what the participants in the meeting have to say. So, focus on how the meeting is structured and run to make sure that everyone can participate. This includes things like:
- Making sure everyone feels comfortable participating
- Developing a structure that allows for everyone’s ideas to be heard
- Making members feel good about their contribution to the meeting
- Making sure the group feels that the ideas and decisions are theirs, not just the leader’s. Supporting everyone’s ideas and not criticizing anyone for what they’ve said.
