Ledger Or Leger Lines
Ledger or leger lines extend the staff to pitches that fall below it. It is a short line added above or below the staff. Ledger lines are generally placed behind note heads and are spaced at the same distance as the lines of the staff. Range of notes that go beyond the two staffs are put on extra short lines or between the spaces formed between them.
Now Finalize The Form Of The Beam Note
Repeat the previous step on the right vertical line. Similar to the previous step, the sideways oval shape should also be drawn on the left side of the vertical line.
After completing this step, you should now have two connected quaver notes, thus completing the form of the first music symbol in your drawingthe beam note.

How Do You Draw A Quarter Rest With A Pen/pencil
It seems to me that the quarter rest we see everywhere was drawn with a calligraphy pen. I don’t have one of those – I have a sharpened/mechanical pencil or a ball-point pen. So usually when I try to imitate the shape of a quarter rest, it looks a lot like a 3.
What is a proper/accepted “thin” version of the quarter rest symbol?
- 3This is an interesting question. I gave up on finding an accepted form years ago; I just make a consistent scribble.Jun 6 ’11 at 9:54
- 1It looks to me like it was drawn with a quill. The calligraphy pens I’ve used would have to be held in the left hand to draw this .;user28Jun 6 ’11 at 20:06
- To answer the lead question – draw a backwards quaver rest. Easier, quicker and shouldn’t be confusing.;TimJan 6 ’15 at 8:30
- When I do this, I do a zig zag as a lightning strike with a half c at the bottom . Sometimes I loose it and just go with a scribble though.
Insert Musical Notes In Word 2010
There is no easy way to insert musical notes in Word. However, by using Words unicode representation of those musical symbols, we can create them in a document. For example, you can use the following short codess to get their corresponsing musical notes:
Symbol | |
---|---|
sharp | 266f alt x |
If your needs extend further than inserting the basic musical symbols above, you might have to look at other software. Microsoft Word just isnt designed for creating musical notation and composing. What you can do is use music notation software to output a music score to an image and then insert that into your document. This isnt ideal, as you have to use another program that you most likely are not familiar with to create the music score, and you cant change the score within Word .
If youre looking for music notation software to work with Word, you might try Sibelius, Noteworthy or Finale, all of which offer free trials.

Semiquaver Or Sixteenth Note
A sixteenth note, also known as a semiquaver is half of a quaver. It is played for one sixteenth the duration of a whole note. It is represented by a filled-in oval note head with a straight stemlike a quaverwith two flags. Multiple semiquaver notes falling one after the other are beamed with two horizontal lines.
Like the quaver rest, the semi quaver rest is denoted with curly flags resting on a slanted stem. The number of curly flags is in proportion to the number of flags adorning the note head.

Many people read music, but it’s very difficult to record it if you don’t know how to draw a treble clef . This symbol is needed for most musical voices , most woodwind instruments, stringed instruments and high brass instruments such as the trumpet. It also typically corresponds to the notes played with the right hand on the piano. This article will show you how to draw it correctly.
Common Errors In Writing Notes With Accidentals
Avoid these common errors when writing notes with accidentals.
Floating accidentals. In the example below, none of the accidentals are on the appropriate line or space. They do not indicate whether or not the pitch should be altered.
Accidentals on the wrong side. Remember that the accidental goes on the left hand side of the notehead. The examples below are centered perfectly on the correct line or space, but they are on the wrong side of the notehead, and therefore have no meaning.
Accidentals that are the wrong size. The correct size of each accidental is demonstrated in the correct examples above. Avoid making them too big or too small.

Draw The Straight Line Of The Treble Clef
Now, well be working on the third and the last music symbol in our drawing, which is the treble clef.
Draw a vertical line with a spiral bottom endpoint. This creates the stem of the treble clef. Remember, the lines forming the treble clef should be relatively thicker compared to the lines shaping the other music symbols.
Complete The Form Of The Treble Clef
Draw a spiral beginning from the bottom endpoint of the S-shaped curve we drew in the previous step.
The spiral should overlap with the stem of the treble clef. At this point, the treble clef should now be fully structured.
Now that weve successfully drawn three musical symbols, its time for the part youve probably been waiting for the most. In this step, we will now be adding colors on the music symbols!
As you can see in the illustration, we kept the colors of the music symbols pretty simple. We used color yellow for the beam note and color green for the quaver note.
The treble clef, on the other hand, doesnt have any color because the lines were bold and pitch-black.
Whats fun about this step is that you can handpick a unique set of colors and color the music symbols however you like! You can even make them multi-colored if you want toits all up to you!
Have fun playing with colors and make the music notes vibrant and colorful!

Then Draw The Flag Of The Quaver Note
Moving on to the second symbol, which is the quaver note, continue by drawing a vertical line below the beam note. This line serves as the stem of the quaver note.
Afterwards, draw a diagonal rectangle shape on the upper right side directly connected to the stem. This forms the flag of the quaver note.
Maxima Or Octuple Whole Note
Used specifically in early music, the maxima or the octuple longa is considered to be a rare musical note that is twice as long as the longa, or eight to twelve times as long as a semibreve. Incidentally, the duplex longa or maxima occurs only in instances of early music. It resembles a quadruple whole note, except that the horizontal bars are slightly longer than the longa notes.
The maxima rest is symbolized by two longa rests, or the more modern alternative for it is a filled-in longa rests.

Drawing A Natural Sign
The natural sign is used to cancel any previous accidentals. It looks similar to the sharp sign, but some of its lines are not as long. Just like the sharp sign, the space in the middle of the natural sign is placed on the exact same line or space as the notehead it effects. The height of the natural sign is approximately three staff spaces.

Quarter Note Or Crotchet
A quarter note is half of a minim, and one-fourth of a full note. It is represented by a filled-in oval. Like the minim, a quarter note has a tail or a stem attached to the note head, which points upwards or downwards depending on how the note falls in a musical piece of work. The note head orientation for the minim and crotchet largely depends on the position of the stem.
The crotchet rest corresponds to a quarter note. Like the quarter note, the crotchet rest receives one count or beat in a bar of 4/4, in a musical piece of work. It is represented like a filled-in squiggle.
