Then Refine The Shape Of The Nose
Polish up the form of the nose by erasing some parts of the circle outline that overlaps inside the nose.
You dont necessarily have to get rid of the entire circle shape, just a few lines that mess up the structure of the nose.
Keep in mind to leave out the bottom part of the circle as this serves as the tip of the nose, as shown in the illustration.
Getting The Air In There
When you inhale air through your nostrils, the air enters the nasal passages and travels into your nasal cavity. The air then passes down the back of your throat into the trachea , or windpipe, on its way to the lungs.
Your nose is also a two-way street. When you exhale the old air from your lungs, the nose is the main way for the air to leave your body. But your nose is more than a passageway for air. The nose also warms, moistens, and filters the air before it goes to the lungs.
The inside of your nose is lined with a moist, thin layer of tissue called a mucous membrane . This membrane warms up the air and moistens it. The mucous membrane makes mucus, that sticky stuff in your nose you might call snot. Mucus captures dust, germs, and other small particles that could irritate your lungs. If you look inside your nose, you will also see hairs that can trap large particles, like dirt or pollen.
If something does get trapped in there, you can probably guess what happens next. You sneeze. Sneezes can send those unwelcome particles speeding out of your nose at 100 mph!
Further back in your nose are even smaller hairs called cilia that you can see only with a microscope. The cilia move back and forth to move the mucus out of the sinuses and back of the nose. Cilia can also be found lining the air passages, where they help move mucus out of the lungs.
Drawing The Basic Angle Of The Nose
Think of the nose as a series of flat planes
To keep things simple, try and think of the nose as a series of flat planes which look different when viewed from different angles.
In fact, no matter what youre drawing, its always a good idea to break the object down into simple shapes, and then add more detail to these simplified forms as you progress. This is a particularly useful technique to learn if youre just starting out as an artist.
In this image, you can see the bridge of the nose and the septum. The bridge of the nose is the part which sticks out from your face. The septum is the piece of skin at the bottom of your nose which attaches it to the rest of your face.
At this stage, its probably a good idea to look into a mirror and take a good look at the bridge of your nose and your septum.
Do you see how these parts of your nose can be broken down into simple shapes? Good
As youre no doubt starting to find out, learning how to draw nose really isnt all that scary after all!

Tips On Drawing The Nose
We think of people having long or short noses, but proportionally, i.e. from browline to nose line, most noses are much the same length. A decisive difference lies in the angle of the nose a nose that turns up will look shorter than one that doesnt. This is an easy guide on how to draw a nose in the correct place on the face.
Yes You Can Draw A Realistic Nose
How to draw a nose? While watching my favorite detective show, I understood all too well the frustration of the police artist trying to draw the suspects face from the witnesss description. He made several attempts to get the nose right until suddenly he adjusted a line which allowed the witness to shout definitively it was the man she saw. Although this was a fictional account, I often find if the nose isnt right, the person is unrecognizable. Therefore, its one of the most important elements in portraiture to master.
To help you with noses, Ive developed these five steps. See what I did and learn how easy it is!

Heres How To Draw A Face That Follows The General Rules Of Proportion Turns Out We Are All More Similar Than We Are Different A Good Thing To Remember These Days
Learning how to draw a face may seem like a daunting task to some, but theres actually some good news about them. Unlike other subject matter, there are actually some very general rules of proportion that students can follow to help them get off to a good start.
Even though we of course, all look different, everyone tends to have their eyes roughly in the middle of their head, noses end about halfway to our chin, and mouths sit in the middle space left over.
Learning how to have face drawings come out the way you want takes time and practice, of course. But if I had to choose one thing that I wanted any of my elementary students to remember about them, its simply that rule about where to place the eyes. Most tend to draw them too high, not in the middle, and that gets the spacing of everything else off too. Eyes need to be placed in the middle, before any hair is drawn, which might affect their judgement.
Speaking of hair, I added a page to my tutorial that gives some examples of how different styles of hair can look. And some glasses too, just for good measure.

Draw An Owl In A Tree
This owl tutorial will show students how to draw a more realistic owl, without getting too lost in the details. In fact, its really more of a silhouette that includes the ears, bumpy feathers on the wing, and pretty scallops on the end of the tails. Color him a pretty brown, OR fill him in black like the tree for a more spooky look.
Drawing Tip of the Day: Remind students to not take any shortcuts on drawing the tree branches. There needs to be quite a few of them, with very curvy shapes so they look old. They are half the fun of the drawing!

How To Draw The Side View Of The Nose:
Step 1: Draw a straight line keeping the length of the nose in mind.
Step 2: On the right side of the line draw the outline and shape for this volumetric object. These outlines will form the wings and the tip of the nose.
Step 3: Give shape to the nose using the outline, and clearly draw the wing and nostrils. Wing can be a little pointed and curvy, it varies for every human thus need not be very symmetric.
Step 4: Give your nose volume and draw a simple line near the straight outline drawn in step one. This will give volume to the nose. Also, draw and shape the back of the nose wing.
Step 5: In this step complete your nose and use the hatching technique, darken the lower edges of the nose and leave the upper part plain. it will provide more volume to it.
Sniff Sniff Take A Whiff
The nose allows you to make scents of what’s going on in the world around you. Just as your eyes give you information by seeing and your ears help you out by hearing, the nose lets you figure out what’s happening by smelling. It does this with help from many parts hidden deep inside your nasal cavity and head.
Up on the roof of the nasal cavity is the olfactory epithelium . Olfactory is a fancy word that has to do with smelling. The olfactory epithelium contains special receptors that are sensitive to odor molecules that travel through the air.
These receptors are very small there are about 10 million of them in your nose! There are hundreds of different odor receptors, each with the ability to sense certain odor molecules. Research has shown that an odor can stimulate several different kinds of receptors. The brain interprets the combination of receptors to recognize any one of about 10,000 different smells.

How To Draw A Cartoon Nose
In this tutorial, we’ll look at different ways of drawing cartoon noses. We’ll start with the nose’s construction, and then use this in the context of experimenting with stylistic renditions of this part of the face.
When in doubt, I recommend looking at references, even when drawing stylistically! They can be a valuable resource not only in observing how parts of the face “work”, but also in discovering how you might experiment with your interpretation. Remember to make sure your references are properly sourced!

Drawing Noses With Kids
I love art, and drawing used to be my forte. So watching my kids create and use artistic expression is one of my favorite things.
Z and SJ have always impressed me with their drawing skills, but I am their mother so I guess this should come as no surprise. Not to imply that I am completely biased no matter what they present me. Case in point- I noticed the kids kept drawing triangles for noses. I let it go and complimented them on their work for a long time, but eventually I saw all aspects of their drawings improve except for that dang triangular nose.
Unless you are drawing Phineas Flyn then there is no need to draw a triangle!
So one night I decided to dust off the old drawing skills and do a little lesson in noses. I sat all four kids down at the dining room table and showed them exhibit A:
This drawing of Mega Mind is great, but Mega Mind is not a jack o lantern.
Then with pencil and paper in hand, we began to practice.
Step 1, draw the nostrils which look like commas that were flipped on their sides .
Step 2 is to add the parenthesis around the nostrils.
Step 3 is to bring in the hook. This is the nose.
Almost all of lines we see on our face are really just shadows. This realization will make your art work come to life!

Placing The Nose On The Head
Any step-by-step tutorial for noses begins with where the feature is placed on the head. The head is roughly divided into the top half and the bottom half, says comic book artist and illustrator Jonathan Case. The top of the nose actually starts at the midpoint line. According to Case, placing the nose properly on the face can be non-intuitive for new artists. When they start drawing, a lot of people put the nose too high, he says. Remember, the eyes sit in the middle of the face. The highest point of the bridge of the nose does as well. Making sure the nose sits in the lower half of the face, with the bridge of the nose reaching just past the faces midpoint, is a key way to make sure the nose looks like a natural part of the face.
