Visualize Drawing The Nose
Top performers in many fields often say that they visualized success as a means of achieving it. I see this repeated everywhere because it actually works. We will leverage this technique for drawing the nose. Now that you have a simplified form in your mind from looking at reference, look at your canvas and visualize the simplified forms placement, angles, shapes, lines as they will appear on paper.
This is probably the most difficult part of this guide. It takes a lot of focus and patience not to start drawing right away. But be patient, and I promise it will pay off in big dividends when you begin to draw.
As you look at good reference and at your blank piece of paper, try to redraw the simplified shapes you imagined in the last step. See the nose appear on paper before you start to draw. Map out the basic shapes, and walk your mind through the drawing step by step. . If you feel like you made a mistake, it is much easier to erase in your mind than on paper.

Then Refine The Shape Of The Nose
Polish up the form of the nose by erasing some parts of the circle outline that overlaps inside the nose.
You dont necessarily have to get rid of the entire circle shape, just a few lines that mess up the structure of the nose.
Keep in mind to leave out the bottom part of the circle as this serves as the tip of the nose, as shown in the illustration.
Draw The Bridge Of The Nose
Draw the bridge of the nose with your 2H pencil. Notice in the reference image that the noses bridge is darker than the ball of the nose. The noses form is still ruff at this point, but once you start blending in the rest of the tones, the noses shape will look like it is popping off the drawing surface.
Make sure you continue to look at the reference image for the value changes.

The Anatomy Of The Human Nose
To understand where the nose is attached to the skull we will start by looking at the human skull from the side view.
The Nose will begin right at the appro named nasal bone. The Nose is composed lar gely of cartilages.
The first cartilage, that we will look at, is called the upper lateral cartilage . The upper lateral cartilage is attached to the nasal bone and it has the shape of a rectang le with very round corners.
The upper lateral cartilage runs down the middle of the nose all the way to the beginning of the tip of the nose. The nose tip is made up of the lower lateral cartilage.
This cartilage goes down and attaches back to the skull. The lower lateral cartilage is also responsible for one half of the shape of the nostrils.
The Nose wing attaches to the lower lateral cartilage and attaches back to the skin on the skull. The nose wing will complete the form of the nostrils.
The last part is not cartilage but a muscle
It is called the Nasalis Transverse. This muscle attaches to the middle of the nose at the top side of the upper lateral cartilage and runs down the side of the skull. This muscle dominates the look of the side of the nose.
These are not all the parts and muscles of the nose but as long as you only want to draw the nose, this is all you need to know.
We only looked at the side view of the nose though but if we take a look at the front view we will see, that all the cartilages and the muscle are present on both sides of the nose.
Add More Shade To The Nose
Add more shade to the nose using a 4B pencil. Try to blend the shades together using the pencil itself. the transition of the tones of pencil shall be as smooth as possible.
Check the below figures that indicate each intermediate step in the shading process.
In the last picture, notice that I added more shades and the top of the nose is shaped.

Exploring The Basic Nose Shape
There are a variety of nose shapes, but most noses in drawings begin as a triangle. Once you have that basic triangle in place, you can do all sorts of other things, Case says. You can give them a hooked nose or make it more rounded or bulbous but youre starting with the triangle shape.
The guidance of the triangle shape is something artists can keep in mind with various perspectives. Lets say were looking up somebodys nostrils, Case says. That triangle shape is going to become a pyramid. If we cut that into various sections, well start understanding where the nostrils should be placed. Shifting perspectives is much easier when you remember that the front view of the nose is basically a triangle, as well.
Nostrils also have a basic shape. Nostrils are almost a comma shape, where the end just tapers off almost to nothing, says Case. Nostrils can be more rounded or elongated, but theyre not perfect circles.

Add Details And Textures On The Nose
In this step, we will be adding details on the nose to add texture, making your drawing look a lot more realistic.
Continue by drawing a slightly curved, thin vertical line down the length of the nose. Afterwards, add shade underneath each nostril to create an illusion of depth.
As you can see, the nose has finally come together, now all its missing is a splash of colors to make the nose look naturalistic.
Now that weve successfully drawn a nose, its time to put a color on it. This is the part where you can show off your artistic skills, especially your ability to mix and match various colors.
To create a skin tone color, simply mix the colors white, brown, red, and yellow. Depending on the complexion youre trying to achieve, you may want to add more of a specific color.
Keep in mind that skin tone colors are most attainable when youre using coloring materials that are easy to blend like a watercolor!
Have fun playing with colors and watch as the nose in your drawing ultimately comes to life!
Shade Around The Nose Bridge And Tip
Shade around the outer part of the bridge and around the inner part of the circle, making a long U shape. You will notice the shading is thicker at the top of the bridge. That is because the bridge of the nose leads into the brow bones. Dont worry if the guidelines you created earlier didnt blend in with your shading. We will darken the drawing later.

Draw The Top Of The Head
Before drawing any parts of the head or face it can be helpful to draw a straight vertical line through the middle of your page/drawing area. This line can act as a guide to help you see if both sides of the head/face are even in width. It can also help you center the drawing on page.
Towards the upper end of the line draw a circle that will represent the top of the head. Be careful not to draw it too high up though as you will need to leave some room for the hair.

In this tutorial, we’ll look at different ways of drawing cartoon noses. We’ll start with the nose’s construction, and then use this in the context of experimenting with stylistic renditions of this part of the face.
When in doubt, I recommend looking at references, even when drawing stylistically! They can be a valuable resource not only in observing how parts of the face “work”, but also in discovering how you might experiment with your interpretation. Remember to make sure your references are properly sourced!

Drawing The Perceived Lines
When most of us learn to draw, we start by drawing lines. We use lines to define the boundaries of objects and to add details. So it’s only natural to look for lines when we draw any object.
A nose, however, doesn’t feature strongly defined lines. Our mind simplifies changes in value or contrast into “perceived lines”. For a nose, these areas include the shapes of the nostrils and the outer edges of the nostrils. This is simply because we notice strong contrast in value in these locations. In reality, the value changes gradually, instead of creating a defined line.
We can use the planes of the nose to position the perceived lines that we see. Using the outer boundaries of the planes, we can mark the outer edges of the nostrils. We can also use the bottom planes to position the shapes of the nostrils.

Draw A Nose Easy For Beginners
Step 1 Nose can be of any shape and size. But in general, I will be teaching you draw a normal human nose which is taught first everywhere. Just draw two lines as shown in the figure.
Step 2 Now draw the outline for the wings of the nose. Its breadth is almost half of the perpendicular line. Keep in mind to maintain the proportions.
Step 3 After the markings, it becomes quite easy to shape the nose. Just draw a smooth shape around the wings. Mark the outer areas of the breathing holes.
Step 4 Remove all the outlines and add some definitions on your own. Do not make any mistakes otherwise it may turn too thick or thin.
Step 5 Now at last start giving some shadows to your drawing and with soft strokes. Darken the holes through which we inhale. And then you are complete with your simple human nose.
