This is the type of wave that can be found on the coastline or with a surfer riding a wave. Follow these steps to draw a basic concave wave in pencil.

  • To complete this drawing, you will need a good quality HB pencil, blending stick and eraser. You can also use a mechanical pencil.
  • Draw and establish the horizon line this can be drawn at a slight angle.
  • Progress onto the drawing and defining the top and bottom of the waves with a faint line.
  • As you are drawing with a single line, the lines drawn at the front of the image will be darker than the waves depicted in the background.
  • The next stage is to apply an underlying layer of shading to each of the waves, these can then be blended together with the blending stick. This will begin to form the appearance of shadows.
  • Darker shading is now.

Drawing With A Puddle And A Broom

Yea can we reflect on those effortless perfect circles with a broom lol

I used to do this at Disney. I worked custodial. And its as far from that job as you might otherwise think. Yes , Id take out trash, sometimes a Code Brown but I got so many perks. Crying kid dropped his ice cream? I was encouraged by management to go get him a new one. How? Just walk up to the ice cream cart and say I need a cone for a kid everyone was encouraged to help. Oh whats that? He spilled it on his shirt too? Go into the gift shop and just have them mark out a shirt.

Disney does not care whatsoever if they lose profit on an item.

Making a lifetime customer out of the kids and parents is to them, the better investment. Ive even gotten a refill on adults drinks just because I could. Ive gotten citations because managers were watching and I didnt know. I would walk around with my freely provided Mickey hand and doing my damn amazing Mickey voice impression high fiving kids and sometimes , taking out the trash.

But the best days were when I would go to sign in for work and my boss would say youre on water art today.

You see, you had to take a class , for free to learn, but if you passed youd be available for it on your schedule.

No trash. No actual custodial tasks. Just walking around doing character art with my bucket o water and my broom with bands tapering it off turning it into a brush.

That was the best damn time of my life. Disney College internship,

Should I Learn To Draw Realistically First

I would really recommend to draw realistically first. By doing this youll eventually find your own ways to stylize, let say, faces for example which might end up much more interesting than trying to copy the generic manga face look. Itll be easier to find your own language if you start realistic, probably.

Drawing Reflections On Water

To visualize the fluid nature of water and now the environmental conditions affect how it moves and looks.

You can draw different shapes and sizes of waves to convey shadow and reflections.

To draw a reflection on the water, you will need to begin by drawing the basic outline of the object above the surface of the water.

Draw the objects shape faintly and once finished, bring your attention to drawing the refection directly beneath it.

Repeat drawing the same shape and proportions except it should be drawn in reverse.

Once you have completed drawing the outline shapes, begin to add more detail onto your reflection. You are now ready to begin shading.

If the refection you are trying to represent is on rippled water, you can convey this using oval-shaped lines and shading.

To begin to add more detail to the refection, you can need to blur the details of the image with a blending stick.

Rough In The Colors And Shapes In The Water Or Wet Area

How to Draw Puddles

Use light pressure and horizontal strokes to shade color into the water or wet area. Horizontal strokes because all reflections should be drawn with horizontal strokes, as should all water. Light pressure because you may have to blend several colors together to get the correct colors and values.

Remember that whatever you draw in the water will be a reflection. The gray-blue is a reflection of the stormy sky. The green is a reflection of trees The white vertical shape is a light pole.

Also remember that the colors of the reflection are likely to be slightly darker than the colors of the object being reflected.

Drawing Outdoor Objects : Water Rock And Clouds

A knowledge of the simpler technical principles involved in drawing clouds, water, and other natural features of the outdoors, is as essential to the newspaper artist as it is to the painter, in order to give naturalness to his pictures. In drawing rocks, for example, one must be careful lest his lines tend to suggest either a wooden or a metallic formation.

In order to avoid a wooden effect, it is well not to use cross-hatching, except where a very dark shadow is to be shown. The straight and more or less vertical line is perhaps easiest and best for suggesting tone line. The top ends of these lines may be shown heavier, breaking off at the bottom ends in disappearing dots. The line may be well shown slightly diagonal and varied to suggest change in the rock formation. These lines should follow the trend of the rock’s surface.

A dot or spatter may be effectively used to suggest shadows and tones. Also a grained paper that will permit the use of crayon is an excellent surface to indicate rock tone and effect. A sketchy, irregular line should be used to suggest large crag and peak formation in a mountain scene.

An Example: Puddle Versus Puddle Reflection

Above is one of the classic scenes from the Grand Tetons: the abandoned houses of Mormon Row. It had rained the previous day, and much of the night, and in the lower right-hand section of the photograph, you will notice a fairly unassuming puddle remaining in the mud.

Getting down low and holding my camera just above the surface of that puddle allowed me to capture this shot. Despite the slight breeze and rippling of the water, this reflection clearly highlights both the abandoned building and the incredible mountain view behind it. Merging three different compositions provided the panoramic view below.

“Doctor Foster went to Gloucester, In a shower of rain He stepped in a puddle, Right up to his middle, And never went there again.” – “Doctor Foster,” English nursery rhyme, 1844

Have you ever played in a puddle? Most puddles are left behind by rain. They can also form near underground springs, on beaches when the tide goes out, from snow melt, or from man-made sources such as a fire hydrant or backyard watering hose.

They may attract small animals that desire to drink the water, or creatures such as frogs and mosquitoes that lay their eggs there.

When children play in puddles, they often wear raincoats and wellington boots. These waterproof articles are often brightly colored in yellow or red they may also sport popular characters, such as the mud-puddle-loving Peppa Pig.

    Creating The Bump Map

Prepare for awesomeness! Bump maps push the scene closer to realism by adding raised imperfections to a surface, and are great fun to use.

Add a new texture underneath the previous, and name it Normals. Select Image or Movie as the texture type and click Open image. Select the custom made puddle texture.

In the mapping options, select UV.

In the Influence options, select Normal. If you choose a positive value the dark values will become raised. However the tiles in my texture are light, so I will be using a negative value to reverse it. Set the value to -0.15

If you rendered now you would see a result similar to this. Whilst it is okay, I would prefer the cracks to be more reflective and less distorted.

To do this we need to alter the contrast of image. In the texture settings, set the contrast to 3. This will make the cracks extremely dark, and as a result unaffected by the bump mapping.

Perfect! The cracks now look more flooded as if they have collected water.
