How I Draw A Rabbit With Pencils

Although many people are afraid to try it, animal studies are an excellent exercise to develop drawing techniques. Drawing the fur, for example, seems impossible to many. Actually it is not that difficult, if you build up the fur piece by piece in layers. In this time-lapse video you can see how I draw the first layer of the rabbit very brightly with a rather hard pencil. Gradually, I then use increasingly softer pencils to reinforce the darker areas and thus build up the contrast. With the eraser I set highlights or erase individual hairs so that they stand out from the darker layer.

How To Make A Cute Bunny Drawing

This bunnys large head increases its cute factor.

The easiest way to make a cute bunny drawing is by emphasizing or exaggerating certain features. Think of some cute animated bunnies you already know, such as Thumper from Bambi and Snowball from The Secret Life of Pets. Both of those bunnies have proportions that arent anatomically correcttheir oversized heads, with prominent eyes, ears, and pink noses, is what makes them adorable.

Drawing The Rabbits Fur With Dark Pencils

We can now draw in realistic fur. You have already laid the foundation for this in the previous steps. Use an extra dark pencil upwards of 4B and start to draw lots of individual hairs.

The rabbits fur on its head and ears is much shorter than on its body. This means that your strokes on the head must be short and the strokes on the body a little longer and more curved.

In fact, the fur on the nose is so short that you should almost draw dots instead of lines.Pay attention to the direction the fur grows in! Not all hairs flow in the same way. You should also make this visible in your drawing. Look at this picture for reference:

A small video with the process of drawing a cute rabbit. Any painting or small sketch begins with pencil drawing. Graphite pencils draw manga, comics and sketches for future paintings. Some works can then be made colored using sketches only as a basis. And you can continue to work with ordinary or mechanical pencils until the picture or drawing is completely finished. The basis of the technique of working in this style is shading. #drawing #shading #pencil With the help of shadows, you can convey not only the facial features of a person. Also, shading allows you to draw landscapes and animals. Rabbits, puppies, cats or other animals almost always possess fur. Drawing fur is one of the most difficult parts of any pattern. But it is also necessary to qualitatively draw the eyes and observe the proportions of the body. I hope you enjoy this bunny drawn with a mechanical pencil and an eraser. Social networks and shops:

Drawing The Rabbit’s Face

Now I’ve erased the extra parts of the circles that I don’t need for the finished rabbit drawing. Now add the bunny rabbit’s face and eyes. The eyes are on the side of the bunny’s head, so are seen from the front as half-circles. This can make them a little bit tricky to draw, as we tend to think of eyes as round or angled a certain way, to be careful to draw what you really see, not what you think they should look like. To complete the face, draw the rabbit’s nose like a letter Y, adding the soft curves of mouth, chin, and cheeks.

To finish off your rabbit drawing so it looks soft and fluffy, you might want to gently erase some of your outlines so that you can just see them, or lightly trace your drawing onto a fresh sheet of paper. Look at the rabbit reference photo to see how the fur looks, and use a combination of long and short lines along your outlines, to create the effect of soft fluffy rabbit fur. If you want to be able to ‘fill’ your drawing with using graphics software later, you’ll need to draw with a ‘zig-zag’ motion so that you still have a continuous outline.

Where you can see lines or dark areas on the rabbit’s body, you can add some scribbly fluff too. Try short, flick marks. Then finish off by adding long whiskers on face and eyebrows.

Sketch Your Bunny Step By Step

How to draw a realistic rabbit!

Fresco makes sketching easy with a powerful suite of drawing tools, but you might be working on paper with the plan to import into a digital space later. Either way, start with the basic shapes of the rabbit and go from there.

Lay down the basic proportions.

Especially if youre going for a more realistic bunny, rather than a cartoon one: The easiest way to approach it is to break the animal down into simple shapes. The best way to do that is to look up a ton of photo references and then think, What shapes do I see in this animal? says illustrator Chioma Iloegbunam.

To start, draw two small circles that are slightly wider than they are tall. The first will be the head of your bunny the second will be the body. Both shapes should be relatively close to one another.

Depending on the perspective of your reference photo, you might need to make the body shape longer than you would for a cartoon bunny. The goal is to sketch the circles, squares, and ovals that you see in your reference, so you can then start working on the pose and perspective of your drawing.

Fleshing Out Your Sketch

Now that you have the basic anatomic proportions of your rabbit drawing down, it is time to flesh it out. You can use the cross to add beautiful eyes, a little nose, and a fluffy chin to your simple bunny drawing.

  • The eyes should sit just above the horizontal line of the cross. A bunnys eyes are more towards the side of its head, and its nose protrudes in front of them. You can easily capture this difference in depth by drawing a small line from the top of the eyes and curving down and inwards.
  • Your bunnys nose should sit just above the bottom of its face. You can use the vertical line of the facial cross to place the nose correctly. It is shaped a little like a crescent moon. Rabbits noses tend to stick out a little more right at the bottom, and you can capture this shape with two small outwardly curved lines from the base of the chin to in line with the nose.
  • You will notice that the ears of your bunny in the reference photograph are not a smooth ellipse. The ears are a little more narrow at the tip, and about halfway down, they begin to widen. You can carefully alter the shape of your rabbits ears. Finally, add in the line to differentiate between the inside and outside of the ears.
  • The final step in the fleshing out process is to join the outlines of your ellipses together with a smooth line. Once you have created a fleshed-out sketch of your bunny, you can erase the construction lines.

How To Make A Cartoon Bunny Drawing

How to Draw a Rabbit (Baby)

Skillshare instructor and illustrator Maria Avramova demonstrates how facial expressions can create funny or comedic bunny drawings.

Illustrator and Skillshare instructor relies on facial expressions to draw funny bunny cartoons. She says you can take a general bunny face and show expressions with the eyes, eyebrows, and mouth.

To learn how to draw a cartoon bunny, study the features and expressions of your favorite characters. Bugs Bunny, for instance, has a crooked smile, darting eyes, and a big grin on his face. His facial expressions are emotive and are what make him unique.

Snowball, from The Secret Life of Pets, is a highly animated little guy, and his eyebrows are constantly moving around.

According to Avramova, learning how to draw a bunny face is really just mastering their eyes, eyebrows, and mouth. The bunnys entire expression can be expressed through these three features. If youre going for a more realistic bunny, you might skip the eyebrows, but for a cartoon bunny drawing, they can make the entire face.

Sketching Out The Lines

In the first step we must map out the lines for the drawing.

TIP: When sketching, use a H or HB pencil, making sure not to press too hard. This way you can easily erase guidelines and errors afterwards.

At first, the rabbits head can seem quite complex, but if you break down the motif into geometricshapes, you can easily map out the construction lines for your drawing.

Draw a long ellipse in the middle of your paper for the rabbits face.

Next, draw two more ellipses as ears, which start in the upper third of the first ellipse and protrude slightly outwards. Use your printed photo as a guide to get the angle of the ears right.

Another ellipse marks out its cheeks.

TIP: Break your motif down into simple shapes. This will help you to get the proportions right. This works for every motif!

In my sketch you can also see that the head is divided by a cross in the middle. The horizontal line shows you exactly where the eyes will be, and the vertical line is a guide for the centre of the face. This will help you later when drawing eyes, nose and mouth.

You can also draw the rough outlines of the body. Have a look at my sketch to see what I mean.
