What Is Frog Egg
Frogs typically lay their eggs in water. The eggs hatch into aquatic larvae called tadpoles that have tails and internal gills. They have highly specialized rasping mouth parts suitable for herbivorous, omnivorous or planktivorous diets. The life cycle is completed when they metamorphose into adults.

The only issue Ive got with the finished result here is the offsetting of its eyes. True in nature, this frogs eyes are positioned such that its pupils appear to be looking in opposite directions . Still you can change the eyes/pupils giving it a unique character altogether.
Have the pupils look more circular if you like yet still incorporating the red/black combo. Give it a try!

Red Eyed Tree Frog Lighting
A lot of red eyed tree frog owners have recently started advocating the use of UVB bulbs in their frog enclosures.
UVB is important for tree frogs because it helps with the synthesis of Vitamin D3 . Without UVB light, tree frogs are susceptible to Metabolic Bone Disease.
The best UVB light for red eyes tree frogs is the Zoo Med ReptiSun 5.0 T5. Tree frogs dont need a ton;of UVB light, so even a small bulb should work just fine. Also, make sure to provide them with a lot of shade.
In addition to a UVB bulb, youll also want to add some sort of heat lamp to one side of the terrarium for additional warmth .
A 6500K LED bulb is perfect for red eyed tree frogs and will also help a ton if you plan to keep live plants.
If the ambient temperature in you red eyed tree frogs enclosure fall below the optimal levels which we will discuss in the next section), you may want to invest in a ceramic heat emitter.
CHEs heat your tank without the use of any visible light, so theyre perfect for daytime and nighttime use alike . The Flukers Ceramic Heat Emitter is a perfect option.

Red Eyes In The Rain Chamber
Red Eye Tree Frogs are bred in rain chambers, which are specialized enclosures that mimic the jungle during a torrential rainstorm.
For help constructing a rain chamber of your own, check out our blog on How to Build a Rain Chamber.
Check out a rain chamber in action with this video:
When possible, try adding red eyes to the rain chamber with a storm front. The drop in barometric temperature really seems to help encourage successful mating.
Introduce the frogs after the rain chamber has been running for a couple days to ensure everything is functioning properly. Have the rain chamber run mainly at night, with a couple hour break somewhere in the middle. Currently, we have our rain chambers set up to run for 3 hours after lights out, break for 2 hours, run for 3 hours, break for 4 hours, then run for an hour during the 12 hour night cycle.
During the day, we have it rain for 15 minutes every 4 hours to help maintain humidity.
The frogs are not fed while in the rain chamber and may remain residents for up to a week, so its important that the frogs are well fed beforehand!
Make sure there are plenty of perches for the red eyes to lay and hang out when they are inactive both in and out of direct water spray. Youll also want to ensure the frogs can easily exit the water if they fall in, which they will.
Keeping Your Tank Clean
Cleaning your red eyed tree frog setup on a regular basis is very important. Any waste that gathers on the bottoms should be removed as soon as possible.
Mold tends to grow quickly in humid environments, so wiping down your tree frogs enclosure will really help keep it safe.
If youre using a natural substrate , it will most likely need to be replaced every few months.
Once again, watch closely for any mold growth, especially in substrates.
If youre using any rocks in your terrarium, remove them occasionally for a good cleaning. Rocks and branches can be baked at 350°F for sterilization purposes.
One of the leading causes of death in red eyed tree frogs is something called Red Leg Disease, which occurs mostly from unsanitary habitat conditions.
As you can see, cleaning your frogs habitat is not just for aesthetic reasons it is also crucial to the safety of your pet.

How To Draw A Frog
Please PAUSE the “How to Draw a Frog ” video after each step to draw at your own pace.
For the first few steps, don’t press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.
Step 1: Draw a circle near the middle of the page as a guide for the first part of the red-eyed tree frog’s body. First draw four small marks to indicate the height and width of the circle, then connect the marks using curved lines. Sketch lightly at first so that it’s easy to erase if you make a mistake. But the circle doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a guide. If you do want to draw a perfect circle, trace the outer rim of a cup, a lid or any other object with a circular edge.
Step 2: On the left side of the circle, near the top, draw an oval as a guide for the tree frog’s head. First draw two small marks to indicate the width of the oval. It should be wider than the circle. Then draw two more marks to indicate the height of the oval. These marks should be close to each other to create an oval.
Now use short, curved lines that connect the small marks to finish up the shape of the oval. The overall shape of the oval should be slightly tilted. The right side should be lower than the left side a bit. This shape can be a bit tricky, so be sure to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
Step 4: Draw two lines at the top and bottom that connect the head to the body to form the shape of the tree frog’s neck.
Setting Up A Red Eyed Tree Frog Habitat

A few of the most important aspect to consider are tank size, temperature, materials, and substrate. Here is a more in depth look at creating a red eyed tree frog setup:

Controlling Your Tanks Humidity
Mistings should take place twice per day once in the morning and once in the afternoon. For larger tanks, you might need to mist another few times throughout the day.
This can be done with a simple spray bottle, although there are also more advanced fogging systems on the market. If you decide to use a spray bottle, make sure that it is brand new and was never used for any cleaning solutions.
Once again, only mist your red eyed tree frog setup with purified bottled water. If you want to go a more advanced route, the;Exo Terra Monsoon RS400 Rainfall System is a great option.

Reproductive Characteristics And Life Cycle

The Red-Eyed Tree Frog breeds in the months of October through March. The males attempt to attract the females through their croak. Once they have found their female, they fight other frogs to be able to latch onto the females hind legs. The female will then proceed to latch to the underside of a leaf while other males will try to latch onto her. The female is responsible for holding onto the weight of all the frogs including the one that is latched onto her while they fight. They then take part in a process called amplexus where the mating couple hangs upside down underneath a leaf over a body of water. The female will lay a clutch of eggs on the underside of the leaf and then the male will fertilize them. Oftentimes, the female will become dehydrated and will drop herself with her mate into the body of water. At this point, the male needs to stay latched onto her or he might lose her to another frog. It is common that a female will return to the leaf with a different mate than before. Once the eggs have hatched, the tadpoles proceed into the water where they will mature into froglets.; Oftentimes, the tadpoles do not survive because of various predators to be found inside the water; the ones that do survive develop and grow into Red-Eyes Tree Frogs. Once they are froglets they move to the trees with the rest of the Red-Eyed Tree Frogs where they will remain for the rest of their lives
