Interesting Facts About Reindeer

Reindeer, also known as caribou, belong to the Cervidae family of plant-eating mammals, along with mule deer, white tailed deer, moose, elk, red deer and others.

Fossils of deer found in North America date back about 35 million years ago. Today reindeer can be found in Canada, Alaska, Norway, Greenland, Finland and Siberia.

Did you know?

  • With the exception of the moose, the antlers of male reindeer are the largest among all deer.

  • Reindeer are thought to be the only mammals able to see ultraviolet light.
  • Male reindeer will battle with other males by locking their horns and pushing each other away.
  • Adult reindeer have several predators including, Polar bears, brown bears and wolverines. Golden Eagles prey on baby reindeer.

The written step-by-step video tutorial:

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, dont press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Step 1: Draw two circles as guides for the first part of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’s body. First draw four small marks for the height and width of the circle, then connect the marks using curved lines. Sketch lightly at first so that it’s easy to erase if you make a mistake. But the circles don’t have to be perfect. They’re just guides. If you do want a perfect circle, trace the outer rim of a coin, a lid or any other object with a circular edge. The two circles should be about the same size, and their edges should touch.

Step 2: Draw another circle on the top, right side as a guide for the head. This circle should be slightly bigger than the circles for the body. Don’t draw this circle too far away from the body, otherwise Rudolph’s neck will be too long.

Step 3: Inside the head, near the bottom, draw a curved, horizontal line as a guide to help you place Rudolph’s eye later.

Step 4: Draw the guide for Rudolph’s muzzle as a small arc on the right side of the head. First draw a small mark to determine the height of the arc, then connect the mark to the head using curved lines.

How Do You Draw In 3d

A simple way to master the art of making your drawing 3D is through the use of lined paper.

Although you can use pre-lined sheets for this, plain, white paper with pencil lines is preferable as the lines won’t run through your drawing, and can be rubbed out after your work.

YouTuber David Hax demonstrated how you can draw a 3D wooden spoon or hand, and included the steps:

  • Draw round the object on your plain page
  • Use a ruler to draw horizontal lines in pencil about 1cm or less across your page, missing out the section inside your object
  • Connect up the lines in the middle of your object in waved, curved strokes so they look multi-dimensional
  • Add shading to enhance the 3D effect
  • Erase the horizontal lines so you are just left with the object.

How To Draw A Reindeer Instructions:

I am a very visual person and find that looking at these directions are helpful to give a base on how I teach Directed Drawing to a group of children.

1.  Give children a copy and then start a draft.  You can use their journals or dry erase boards.  Next, model how to draw the pictures to your children or students.  Show them that it just takes simple shapes.  Many children are overwhelmed by the details and then so surprised when they DO it!

2. Point out the transitional words .

3.  Pass out new paper and encourage students to make their final copy.

4. Finally, enjoy!

This class set was made by second graders .  When it was hung in the hallway, the teacher added a really neat touch using a free take-one envelope.  The other classes went wild taking the directions and we hope theyre having fun making them with their friends and families too.

This reindeer directed drawing activity was inspired by Art Venterous.

Inking Your Reindeer Drawing

I always outline my drawings with a black pen. This is part of my artistic style and is sometimes called inking your drawing.

You can add a lot of variation to your drawings during the inking process. You can change the shape of your lines and add thickness, or line weight to them. Or you can make them more stylized.

How you make your lines will help develop your artistic style.

After finishing your outlines use a to remove all of your pencil lines.

Your reindeer drawing is now ready for color.

How Do I Draw A Christmas Tree

A helpful guide on WikiHow reveals how you can draw a simple Christmas tree in a jiffy.

You want to start off by drawing a flat-shaped triangle with a curved base, repeating the shape and overlapping at the top each time with two more, slightly smaller triangles.

Add a trunk and a base, and then add a star at the top, before drawing in baubles at each of the tips of the tree.

Then erase any pencil lines you don’t need- go over the outline in pen and colour in a festive green – dotting baubles wherever you want.

Draw A Cute Reindeer Body Outline

First, we draw a big circle, taking care to flatten it a bit. This will be the head of a cute reindeer.

Then we draw a smaller oval below the outline of the head. This oval should be a little longer. This will be the torso part of the cute reindeer.

Next, we start to the nose inside the outline of the head, and then we draw two curved lines, and this is going to be the outline of the face of the reindeer.
