How To Draw A Rhino Made From Simple Rectangles
Learning how to draw a rhino can be a difficult task if you want to create a realistic version of this adorable animal. The body of the animal is large and filled with strong muscles. The head is also filled with complex details that can be demanding to illustrate. Let’s not forget the horns that are located above the nose and mostly made from perfect curved lines.
Fortunately, it’s also possible to create a simple version of this animal using only basic shapes like squares, rectangles and triangles. That’s the purpose of this basic lesson that can help you draw a simple version of this incredible animal. Ready? Let’s proceed with this lesson now. 🙂
drawing the body using a rectangle
First, let’s work on the body using a perfect rectangle. Since the head will be located on the left side of the illustration, don’t forget to leave some space in this area. It’s also important to leave room below the body of the animal for the legs .
a fun square can be used to form the head
On the left side of the character, draw a perfect square to form the head of the rhino. Notice how the top of the new shape is perfectly aligned with the top of the body. The head is also located on top of the body, the other half being visible outside the character.

Make A Construction Drawing
Start by making a rough construction drawing of the rhinoceros. You can outline most parts of its body with either straight lines or simple curves without drawing any of the smaller bends.
Be sure to draw very light lines that you can easily erase. The lines in the example have been darkened to make them easier to see. These lines should define the most characteristic features of this particular subject in a simplified manner. They should set the correct proportions of the different body parts in relation to one another and establish their general shapes.
For example The horn can be outlined with just two simple curves. The top of the head has a characteristic wave line shape going from the horn to the back of the head/neck area. The body is very large in relation to the fairly small legs with a somewhat straight back and a curved bottom. The Front legs are pretty much straight with barely noticeable bends while the back legs have a clear backwards bend in them. The overall shape of the legs gets thinner towards the ground while the feet get wider as they go down from the legs.
A construction drawing such as this one is important as it allows for easy corrections/revisions. If you fully draw out each body part before moving on to the next one you may end up having to do far more backtracking if you make a mistake. You will also probably be more likely to make mistakes if you start the drawing with the small details without viewing the rhino as a whole.

Step 2: Draw a slanted oval on the lower left side of the circles as a guide for the rhino’s head.
You Can Refer To The Simple Step
Lets draw a rhino! Trace a squiggly line across the page for the back. Make sure the lines start to come down.
From there, tracing a squiggly oval shape for the head, your rhino looks like it is leaning down for water! Add a line for the mouth.
Trace a large triangle shape at the front of the head and a small triangle at the top of the head for horns.
Color in an oval and trace two lines, one above and one below for baggy eyes.
From there, trace a short line across for the neck, then draw a short, stumpy leg, making it wide at the top but smaller at the bottom.
The second front leg is really hiding behind the first, so trace thin lines along the outside of your first leg.
Draw a curbed line across the bottom of your rhino for the belly.
Draw the first hind leg by tracing a simple line at the back of your rhino?his leg is hiding too!
Now, trace two long lines, making sure they are squiggly and wide apart for the last thick leg. Trace a thin line right along the leg for the tail.
Add some wrinkles on rhinoceros body. Finally coloring, it may be gray or brown. Theres your rhino!

Interesting Facts About Rhinos
The rhinoceros name, which is usually shortened to rhino, means nose horn. There are five species of rhinos. The white rhino and the black rhino are from Africa. The Indian rhino, the Javan rhino, and the Sumatran rhino are from Asia.
Did you know?
- White rhinos are the second largest land mammal on the planet, behind the elephant.
- The horn at the tip of the rhinos nose is made out of the same material as your hair and fingernails. This material is called keratin.
- Rhinos can weigh more than 2,200 pounds.
- Rhinos are herbivores, which means they only eat plants.
- The black and white rhinos have two horns on their head.
- Rhinos have hooves with three toes.
- Rhinos can live to be 35 to 40 years old.
Rhinos are one of the most endangered species on the planet. There are about 400 Sumatran rhinos and less than 100 Javan rhinos left in the world. Humans hunt rhinos for their horns. However, some people do not like the practice of hunting for their horns because rhinos use them for self-defense against other animals and predators. In some cultures, people believe that rhino horns can cure fevers, food poisoning, and other illnesses.

How To Draw A Rhino Clipart Made From Solid Shapes
Illustrating a rhino clipart from a front perspective can be a challenging task. Clipart images are usually quite simple and rhinos are often harder to draw from such a view compared to other animals. Fortunately, this simple drawing lesson should help you reach this goal easily and quickly.
Rhinos are large animals that can weigh up to a single tonne. That are easily recognizable because they have two large horns right above the mouth. Below you can see the version of this animal you are about to illustrate. It’s relatively simple and mostly made from basic shapes. Ready? Let’s start this tutorial now! 🙂
First, you can draw the body of the cartoon rhino using a large rectangle. I like to use a thick outline to make the cartoon character easier to read and more enjoyable to look at. Next, draw two large circles to form the eyes and two smaller ones to create the pupils. When you are done, you can proceed to the next step!
Ears are made from a simple triangle that is slightly modified. Make sure these ears are pointed and raised above the head. The horn just below the eyes is also made from a triangle. The second one is smaller and hidden behind the large one, so we don’t have to draw this part of the rhino. Next, create a small tail using another triangle with a sharp end. Finally, four lines are drawn to create the front legs.
Nice work drawing a fun rhino clipart!
Finish Off Your Rhino Drawing With Some Color
Rhinos typically have quite a dull and muted color scheme, but that wont be limiting you as much as you may think in this final step of our guide on how to draw a rhino!
Even if you keep the rhino to more muted colors as we did in the reference image, there are ways that you could bring some incredible colors to the picture.
One of the best ways to do this is by adding some colors to the background. If you drew any extra details and elements, then you can add colors to these as well.
You can also get some color variation by experimenting with your favorite art mediums and tools, so how will you finish off this amazing drawing with your colors?
