How to Draw a Robot Super Easy and Cute

According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica , the cross is “the principal symbol of the Christian religion.” Millions of people wear a cross on a necklace or employ the cross in body art or to decorate their homes, vehicles, or clothing.

The cross as a symbol has a long history spanning numerous non-Christian religions. Simple X or + marks are found in prehistoric cave drawings. In ancient Egypt, the cross-like ankh or crux ansata – translated “cross with a handle – was often depicted in the hand of the pharaoh or of various deities. It was used both as a fertility symbol and to represent life. W. E. Vine’s Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words also notes that the cross or t was used as a symbol for the Chaldean god Tammuz.

For 300 years after the founding of Christianity, there is no historical evidence of the use of this symbol in worship. It came into popularity when promoted by Roman Emperor Constantine, between 306 and 337 A.D. Throughout the Middle Ages in Europe, the cross was used as a religious symbol. The design, for example, adorned the shields of knights and crusaders. The cross also appears in much of the religious artwork from the sixth century onward, appearing in paintings, on the cover and pages of religious texts, and in architecture, especially of churches.

Would you like to draw your own cross? The stylized cross in this easy, step-by-step drawing tutorial features a rose wound about it.

“Will robots inherit the earth? Yes, but they will be our children.” – Marvin Minsky, American computer scientist

A robot is defined as “any automatically operated machine that replaces human effort.” The term robot is derived from a Czech word that means “forced labor,” “serf,” or “slave.”

When people picture robots, they often think of androids – human-shaped robots. But most robots are not in human form. They may be rectangular, disc-shaped, spiderlike, doglike, or just a set of arms. Robots build cars, work in factories, perform search and rescue operations, explore distant places, and clean our homes.

Fiction holds many loveable robots. Famous names include R2-D2 and BB-8 from Star Wars, Optimus Prime from Transformers, and Baymax from Disney’s Big Hero 6. Other stories involve the fear of robots taking over the world and replacing humanity.

Would you like to draw a futuristic cartoon robot? You can use the step-by-step instructions in this easy cartoon character drawing tutorial to learn how. You’ll begin by tracing simple geometric shapes, and add the details as you go along. You’ll need only a pencil and an eraser.

How to draw a robot: finished square robot drawing coloured-in

And since we like to complete our drawings in colour, here is one option for colouring your robot.

We thought this boxy robot is looking like a very old and run-down model. So the poor thing ended up all in a rusty brown colour. Only the segmented tubes for legs and arms must be stainless steel hence they are shiny metal, err, blue colour. Some dark grey for the shading completes the simple colour scheme.

That is it now you know how to draw a robot. Well, one possible type. How about drawing a very different robot next?

Step 2: Sketch the track shoes

Next we are building the robots track undercarriage.

Duplicate the straight lines at the front, back and side first. Then, close the shape with half circles to form the track shoes.

Step 3: Add some face dials

Even our second robot will have a human-looking face. This time, we draw two thermometers for the eyes. We draw them with a shape matching our robots body: two long rectangles, flat at the bottom, and rounded at the top. Then, repeat a skinny version of the shape for the inner thermometer/eye pupil. Add a scale in the middle just a simple line with some cross marks.

Finally, mark a little oval opening at the side of the body for the shoulder where the arm will attach.

Step 5: Add wheels and antennas

    D Robot Drawing Using Forms

This is a lesson I did with my 4th grade students. It was part of a unit on drawing in perspective and was a follow up to the basic cube drawing lesson. However, when learning how to draw robots, we went more in-depth with shading.

There are so many different ways to draw robots. Use robot reference photos for ideas.

This project uses toned paper with white and black colored pencils to complete the drawings. Because some students have a limited amount of exposure to different supplies,; its always a good idea to expose them to as many different techniques and supplies as possible with the lessons.

Using the black and white pencils on the toned paper is such a rewarding process, and a great way to teach students about value. And this lesson could easily be used for any level of student or adult, for that matter.
