How To Draw A T-Shirt Step By Step T-Shirt Drawing Easy

PART 1: Make the T-Shirt pattern

Rather than buying a pre-made sewing pattern, its totally possible to make your own! You might not get a perfect fit on the first attemptbut thats okay. If you get to the end of this tutorial and find that your T-Shirt is a little tight, just add some width to the pattern and try again. Or if the arms are too short, add a little extra length. Basically: give it a go, refine the pattern, and try again. It took me two practises before I got the perfect pattern .

1. Find a current T-Shirt that you love the fit of. Make sure it fits your body well: not too big, not too small.

2. Turn this T-Shirt inside out and lay it flat onto a large piece of plain paper. Smooth out the wrinkles so it lies as flat as possible .

3. Using a pencil, trace around the edge of the T-Shirt. Go along the sides, the shoulders, the back neckline and the bottom. However, do not draw around the arms. Instead, fold the arms up and draw along the line of stitching that connects the arm to the body. Youll be left with a kind of vest shape.

4. Cut out the body piece that youve just drawn. This will form the back piece of your T-Shirt. Use this pattern piece to cut another, identical piece except this time, cut the neckline a little lower . Cut this second body piece out. This will be the front pattern piece.

PART 2: Cut out your T-Shirt pattern pieces

PART 3: Sew the T-Shirt together

6. Repeat this for the other arm piece.

PART 4: Add the neckline

Proceed by drawing parallel lines right underneath the left leg opening of the jersey shorts. Then, draw a shoe facing towards the right side. Afterwards, add a line enclosing the toe cap and another one to form the sole.

Repeat the same step on the other leg opening of the shorts to create the right foot.

Draw The Football Players Facial Features

In this step, well be drawing the features on the football players face.

Continue by drawing two thick curved lines to form the arched eyebrows. Then, draw a standing oval shape with two small circles inside right underneath each eyebrow.

For the nose, simply draw a sideways oval shape. Now, draw an upward curve to put a wide smile on the football players face, making him look extremely happy!

Since the face mask is covering some parts of the face, the nose and the mouth of the football player will only be partly visible.

Now that weve successfully drawn a football player, its finally time for the most exciting step, which is filling in the colors of your drawing!

The colors you will be using for the football player is entirely up to you! But heres a tip you may find useful when coloring the football players skin: mix the colors white, red, yellow, and blue to create a customized skin tone color.

You may need to add more of any of these colors depending on the complexion youre aiming for.

For the football players uniform, you can use the colors of your favorite football team or handpick a unique set of colors. Either way, were sure the colors will turn out aesthetically!

A simple cross, extended beyond either left and right side of the circle help to mark off the end points of the curved lines. The green mark positions the grips just remember to keep your lines nice and light when youre planning everything out like this.

How to Draw: Tshirt Drawing tutorial (step by step easy)

Lets just get something clear: a month before publishing this blog post, I had never made a T-Shirt before. Id barely even worked with stretch jersey fabric, other than a bit of dabbling in some smaller projects.

However, back in May my Instagram feed became flooded with #mmmay posts. For those not in the know, this is the hashtag for the Me Made May campaign, which encourages crafters to wear something handmade every single day in the month of May. Anyway, I saw these Instagram posts and I felt SO inspired!

Id never really made my own clothes before, other than accessories like bow ties, neckties and scarves. However, since stepping up my sewing machine game earlier this year, I thought it was time to step up my projects, too.

I set myself the challenge of making a wearable T-shirt before the end of the month. And I did it!

And you know what? You can make one too.

Follow along with me on this tutorial. Ill take you slowly through each step, and help you out along the way. Go slowly, practise, make mistakes, learn and youll be well on your way to a handmade wardrobe in no time.

Add Some Sleeves For The Shirt

A shirt wouldnt be very well designed without holes for your arms, so we shall be adding some sleeves in this part of your shirt drawing.

To do this, keep using the rectangles from the previous step in order to position the sleeves correctly.

They will come down from the top corners of the shirt in a curved line and then connect to the body of the shirt with a straight line.

    Nail Down Your Message

Most of our customers already have at least a vague design idea about what they want on their tee. This is a great place to start, but dont let it end there.

When it comes to creating that perfect custom t-shirt design, remember that conveying your message is everything. Thats why this stage of the process is incredibly important. Its essentially the foundation that youll build the rest of your design upon.

Start out by brainstorming what you want this shirt to say, both literally and figuratively, to anyone that sees it. This can vary drastically depending on what the shirt will be used for.

For example, if its for a baseball team, youll want your team name big, bold, and easy-to-read from the stands. Or if youre making tees for your 5-year-old nieces birthday party, communication might take a back seat to covering the shirt in pink unicorns, swirls, and rainbows.

Also, remember that not all ideas are actually work well on a t-shirt. Think carefully about the size of the design, what message you want your t-shirt to have, and if there are any possible ways that the message could be misunderstood, or even unreadable using your initial concept.

Simple is almost always better. Try to keep the text on the t-shirt short so that it is clearly readable with just a quick glance. Ensure your ideas for graphics arent overly complicated or over-the-top. It shouldnt take a decoder to figure out what your t-shirt design means.

Draw An Outline On The Shirt

Put some paper or cardboard inside the shirt to protect the back from any ink.

Grab something you can use to draw on the shirt that can come out later. Im using a Frixion pen, that disappears with heat, which is great because it will disappear when I iron it the shirt. You can also try a pen that disappears with water or over time, or some tailors chalk.

Draw a rough version of your design onto the shirt. My fabric is stretchy, so drawing a line is next to impossible. If you have the same problem, you’ll have to make dots in stead of lines. It takes a bit longer, but it works.

In case of lettering, like mine, its helpful to draw a grid to get the letters all lined up.

If you want, you can try it on now, just to make sure that you like the positioning and the size of your design.
