How did teddy bears come to be the one stuffed toy hugged by almost every child? Or the gift you give your girlfriend on Valentine’s Day? The story of a U.S. president, a rifle, and a hunting trip might surprise you.
In 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt went on a hunting trip in Mississippi, USA. One of the president’s assistants didn’t think it proper that the trip end without the president capturing his quarry – a bear. So, this assistant trapped a bear and tied it to a tree.

Roosevelt, however, refused to shoot the bear. He felt it was wrong and unsportsmanlike to shoot an animal that could not escape or defend itself.
A newspaper cartoonist drew a picture of this scene, which inspired a Brooklyn candy shop owner to dedicate a toy bear to the president. He called the toy “Teddy’s bear.” Soon, stuffed teddy bears were popular with children around the world.

Texture is an element of art that can help to make a drawing look more realistic. To create the illusion of realistic fur, directional lines with dark values and light values work well.
Step 1: Start with a small oval next to a larger circle. Connect with curves as shown.
Step 2: Add a long oval overlapping the circle and the curves for the front leg. Draw another half oval behind the first for the far front leg. Do the same for the back legs.
Step 3: Add paw shape at ends of leg ovals. Use diagonal lines for snout, curved mouth, and rounded ears. Add sideways triangle for eye.
Step 4: Draw hatch marks around perimeter of bear shapes to show texture Shade the nose and eye. Add brow and nose bridge detail. Re-shape closest front paw. Add a small tuft for a tail. Erase back leg oval that intersects with circle belly.
Step 5: Add another layer of fur texture all over. Keep hatch marks closer in areas of darkness, especially under the belly area. Draw hatch marks further apart in areas of highlight. Notice the direction of the hatch marks inside the bear as they follow the cross contour of its body.

Start With A Light Sketch
Begin with a light sketch. We don’t want to make any solid marks or bold lines yet at this stage we’re just finding the shapes of the animal’s form. Keep your arm loose and move quickly this is the messy stage! It’s a good idea to break this initial sketch into a wire skeleton and basic shapes to start. This is the foundation of your study.
Draw The Details Of The Bear Head
Let us examine how these or other parts of the muzzle of the beast of prey are drawn:1. Eyes. Their precise detailing is essential for our bear to be as expressive as possible. You can, of course, mark them with simple black circles with white highlights, but if small details are essential in your drawing, then use this simple scheme. Make sure that the proportions of the eyes are preserved about the face, as well as keep the above form. For centuries the bear has no wool, but in other places, it diverges from the eye in different directions.2. Nose. This part of the body is easy to draw the main thing is to display the depth with shading and shadows. We begin to draw from the circle, divide it by perpendiculars, then place the nostrils and start to depict them in detail.3. Ears. When drawing the organs of hearing, consider the direction of the hair and the location of their location on the head. We begin to create, as always, with simple forms, then we add more and more details, building them on a sketch, layer by layer.

How to Draw a Bear
First, draw a circle to indicate where the head of the drawn bear will be. To do this, you can use a compass for geometry, or just something round to draw this circle around it. The second step is to draw an oval for the body. Repeat as shown in step.
Lets move on to drawing the bears snout. We make the upper and lower parts in even stripes, which we then divide into the line of the mouth. Consider and draw lines just like in step number two. We marked each new step in light blue.
So, draw first the far ear, which can be drawn directly above the circle. After that we draw an ear that is closer to us. Keep in mind that visually it should be larger, as it is closer to us. After that draw a black nose and an almond-shaped bear eye.
Erase the circle first, then add the same details that are shown in blue in the figure. Then we draw the sharp claws of the bear on both paws.
