Step 5: Erase The Primary Forms

Once you have granted the fox its characteristic features, you can erase the underlying basic structures. Only the final version of the fox drawing should remain.

If you work in traditional media like a graphite pencil, it is easier to erase the underlying shapes while you are working out the foxs features.

This Fox Face Drawing Tutorial Helps Students Fill Their Paper With A Large Symmetrical Face And Has All Kinds Of Coloring Options

This fox drawing is shown as a red one, but you easily swap it to gray and white, or gray and brown, etc. Whatever the choice though, I recommend that students try coloring those fuzzy edges around the eyes, nose and chest the way my sample shows. The black line is left off intentionally so that the two colors can share a fuzzy edge. So much more lifelike!

Step 3: Draw Fox Eyes

The third step is to get started on your cute foxs eyes. Draw two ovals around the middle of your foxs head. Try to line them up with their respective ear. For example, the right eye will end up around the middle point of the right ear.

For the pupils, draw two smaller ovals, one in each eye, located in the upper right hand corner. This will help you create a pair of very cute eyes.

Method 2 Of 3:making A Lifelike Standing Fox

  • 1Sketch a circle in the middle of the page for the foxs head. Rather than trying to draw a perfect circle, make it a bit flattened on the lower right sideif thats the side where you want the foxs neck and body to attach to its head. Sketch the circle lightly with a pencil.XResearch source
  • Do all of the preliminary sketching in pencil and use a light touch. This way, you can easily erase any unnecessary pencil lines as you flesh out the details of the drawing.
  • 2Add 3 egg-shaped ovals to the head for the ears and muzzle. If you imagine the head as a clock face, place the ears at roughly 10 and 1 oclock. Make the muzzle a bit larger than the ears and place it at about 7 oclock.XResearch source
  • The narrower tops of the egg shapes should protrude beyond the circular outline of the head. About two-thirds of the left ear, one-third of the right ear, and half of the muzzle should extend beyond the head.
  • 3Overlap the bottom right of the head with a slightly larger circle for the neck. Make this circle about one-third larger than the head, and give it a bit of an oval shape. About one-third of it should overlap the lower right side of the circle for the head.XResearch source
  • 4Sketch out a much larger oval to represent the foxs body. This oval should extend to the right of and slightly below the circle for the neck. It should also overlap the neck circle and just touch the circle that represents the head.XResearch source
  • Step 7: Add In The Details Of Your Foxs Face

    Step seven will be to add the little details that make your fox, well, foxy! Add two angled lines like the ones shown above to the inner side of your foxs ears. Next, add two slanted straight lines to the outer ear.

    After, you will draw a line that starts from the side of your foxs head and dips down to the top of its nose. This line will intersect through the top third of the foxs eyes.

    Make This Simple Fox Drawing

    How to draw a fox? Foxes are such beautiful and mysterious creatures. I just love how they move through the woods without anyone knowing theyre there. I suppose thats why I like drawing them so much. With their distinctive pointy ears and nose and their bushy tail, they give me lots of chances to capture their personality. As an illustrator, I draw foxes in many different styles from to cartoon characters. But, for this instruction guide, Ill be drawing one thats more on the make-believe side, but with lots of real details because its my favorite way to draw one.

    In this demo, Ill be using Arteza Watercolor Pencils. I like these pencils because they come in so many shades of vibrant colors. This is one of my all-time favorite mediums to use because they act like both a colored pencil and watercolor paint. Watercolor pencils let you color in an area just like you would with a regular colored pencil, but when you moisten the color with water, it turns into paint that lets you use all the same techniques you would use with traditional watercolors. If youve never tried them, heres your chance and I know youre going to fall for them just like I did!

    How Do You Characterize A Fox

    It may seem a weird question, but it’s important to answer it in order to draw a fox instead of a dog. Foxes belong to the same family as dogs and they share a lot of traits, like the overall shape of the body, eyes, paws, ears, nose, muzzle and tail. Actually, they’re so similar that you can successfully use my tutorial about dogs to draw these parts. However, you need to keep in mind following differences:

    • Fox paws are small, attached to long, slim legs;
    • The pupils of true foxes are slit, like cats;
    • The ears are always pointed and triangular ;
    • The biggest of foxes are about a size of Shiba Inu.

    Let’s take a look at the main differences between the dog and the fox body. You should have no problem with recognizing who is who, even though I made them in the same size for easier comparison.

    The illustration below shows many features characteristic for a fox. Not all of them need to be met, especially when you’re not drawing a true fox. The features that need to be drawn mandatory are:

    • slim body with long barrow, thin legs and small paws;
    • triangular, pointed ears;

    Step By Step Instructions For Drawing An Arctic Fox

    1. Begin by drawing a circle to outline the fox’s head.

    2. Draw a wide “U” shaped line overlapping the top of the head. Then, draw curved lines from the ends of the “U” to the circle, enclosing rounded triangles. These will form the fox’s ears. Draw a wide “U” shaped line beneath the circle, and connect it to the circle using short curved lines connected in jagged points. This forms the fox’s muzzle and jaw.

    3. Enclose a rounded shape beneath the head using a series of short curved lines connected in jagged points. The lines should connect at the bottom in the downward facing point. This forms the fox’s furry chest, sometimes called a ruff.

    4. Using a long curved line, enclose a rounded shape below and to one side of the ruff. This indicates the fox’s body.

    8. Extend two long curved lines upward from the back of the fox’s body. Allow the lines to meet at a gentle point, forming the bushy tail. Use short curved lines connected in jagged points to enclose a rounded diamond shape at the tip of the tail.

    Color your Arctic fox. In winter, Arctic foxes are a snowy white, but their summer coats are grey. The foxes may appear spotted when shedding one coat for another.

    You’ll find many more Arctic animals, such as whales and polar bears, and the fox’s cousins, such as coyotes and wolves, in our selection of animal drawing guides.

    Method 1 Of 3:drawing A Cartoon Fox

  • 1Sketch in the head as a large egg-like shape centered on the page. Tilt the egg on its sidefor instance, so the narrower part of the eggs oval is pointed to the left. Since this is a cartoon fox, feel free to make the head big!XResearch source
  • Sketch lightly with a pencil so that you can erase any mistakes or extra lines at the end.
  • 2Draw the ears with 2 smaller egg-like shapes on top of the head. Imagine the head as a clock face and place the ears at about the 12 and 3 oclock positions. Make the far-side ear egg point straight up, and the near-side ear lean towards the foxs tail at about a 30-degree angle.XResearch source
  • 3Make an oval for the body thats about the same size as the head. Center this oval beneath the near-side ear and overlap it slightly over the lower section of the head.XResearch source
  • Since this is a cartoon fox, you can adjust the proportions to your liking. If you want the head to be larger than the body, go for it!
  • 4Sketch in 3 pairs of ovals for 2 front legs and a rear leg. For the legs, space out 3 upright ovals fairly evenly across the bottom of the body oval. Roughly the top half of each leg oval should overlap the body oval. Add 3 smaller horizontal ovals at the bottoms of the legs to represent the feet. These should overlap the lower legs by about half.XResearch source
  • There are only 3 legs visible due to the viewing angle for this cartoon fox In other words, the far-side rear leg is hidden behind the near-side rear leg.
  • Method 3 Of 3:creating A Realistic Sitting Fox

  • 1Start with a circle and a curved line extending from its bottom left. It should look like a balloon on a string thats caught in a light breeze, or perhaps a lollipop with an arched stick. The circle represents the foxs head, and the curve traces the path of its spine.XResearch source
  • Make the curved line about 3 times as long as the diameter of the circle.
  • 2Sketch in the pointed ears and rounded snout on the circular head. Create a T shape that covers the bottom half of the circle. Double the length of the Ts vertical stem by extending it below the circle, then sketch in a U shape for the muzzle that surrounds the lower half of the Ts stem.XResearch source
  • Draw 2 tall, pointed arcsroughly the shape of wishbonesfor the ears. Imagine the circle as a clock face and place them at about the 10 and 2 oclock positions.
  • 3Add another circle and curved line to outline the foxs body and rear thigh. In basic terms, draw a reverse image of the circle and curve that you started with so that the 2 curved lines connect the 2 circles. The lines should curve a bit like a pair of parentheses while the lower circle should have a bit more of an oval shape.XResearch source
  • Dont center the rear thigh straight below the head. Rather, off-set it so its roughly centered under the left ear.
  • The two parallel lines establish the positioning of the foxs front legs.
  • How To Draw An Arctic Fox

    The arctic fox is also known as the white fox, snow fox, or polar fox. It lives in the cold northern polar regions of the world. In times past, it has been sought after for the beauty of its snow white fur.

    Arctic foxes eat both meat and plants. They live in burrows in the ground, and are active during the day and night.

    Arctic foxes are capable of withstanding freezing temperatures that many other animals could not. It is the only whose foot pads are covered in fur, and it is known to wrap its tail around itself in order to keep warm.

    Interesting Facts About Foxes

    Foxes belong to the Canidae family, along with wolves, dogs, coyotes and jackals. This mixed family consists of two tribes; the Canini and Vulpini. Foxes are of the Vulpini tribe.

    Foxes are generally smaller than a medium-sized dog with a bushy tail and narrow, long snout and can be found living on most every continent.

    Did you know?

    • Foxes hold a long-held and widespread reputation of being cute, yet misleading.
    • Foxes can live up to 10 years, but most live only 2 3 years because they are often hunted, easily diseased and killed on the roadways.
    • A female fox is called a vixen and male foxes are called dogs or reynards.
    • Foxes are meat and plant eaters, eating reptiles, berries, fruit, birds, eggs, fish and other small animals that are available.
    • Foxes are typically afraid of humans and rarely kept as pets. However, they do adapt to areas of human population and are often found roaming near or in cities.

    The fox has been popularly depicted in folklore, many books and stories, anime, movies, television and video games; often as a character that is a trickster or one that holds powers of magic.

    Step 6 In How To Draw A Fox: Color The Fur

    If you can draw a fox, you should add a little color to make it more vibrant. A reddish-brown and a slightly darker brown are enough to suggest the foxs fur. If you combine these two colors cleverly with the white of the paper, you can draw a wonderful fox.

    Step 8: Draw Fox Legs

    Where that inner line we just made ends, well add a slight inner curved line going diagonally across and ending at the tail, then on the other side of that line well do the same.

    For the inner leg, make a little bit of a squiggly line with sharper edges to account for the knee joint of the foxes leg.

    Step 9: Draw The Front Legs

    For maximum cuteness, draw two legs that come together at the middle. This will mean drawing two lines for each leg. You will want to start the outer line of the leg lined up with the outer part of the corresponding eye. The inner part of the leg will start lined up with the outer corner of your foxs mouth.

    Step 8: Draw The Body Of Your Fox

    To draw the foxs body, create two curved vertical lines that comes down from the sides of the foxs head. The lines will start tapered in and then slightly curve out and come back in at the bottom. The length of each line should be about the same as the length from the top center of the foxs head to its chin.

    Quick Fox Drawing For Kids

    This tutorial for kids shows you the simplest, and easiest way to draw a fox. Its more of a quick drawing process, where the character is basically a quick and rough sketch of the actual thing. Although this fox lacks details and structure, its meant to be drawn by kids, and for them, its more than perfect.

    How To Draw A Cute Fox

    This fox tutorial is one that I have very much been looking forward to. Who doesnt love foxes? Although there are many colors of foxes like amber foxes, gray foxes, white foxes, and black foxes, todays example will be the well-known red fox.

    To follow along with this tutorial, you can use the blues lines as a reference. Blue lines will indicate the drawing that needs to be completed in that step. For example, you will notice that the ears are blue in the second step. This means that you should be drawing fox ears in that particular step.

    Step 2: Draw Fox Ears

    The ears of your fox can be drawn by creating two triangle-like shapes on top of the head you just drew. Draw a second pair of smaller triangles within the first triangle to complete your fox ears. For the best results, the spacing in between the two ears and the space between the ears and the side of the foxs head should be roughly the same. This will give a more balanced look.

    Step 1: The Basic Shapes Of The Fox

    As in most drawings, it is worthwhile to start with the primary form of the fox.

    Depending on the perspective, these forms can differ considerably, as we want to transfer a three-dimensional object to a two-dimensional drawing surface.

    Therefore, you should take a picture of the animal as a reference, which has already documented the body of the animal in a two-dimensional snapshot.

    In our drawing, the three shapes of the head, trunk, and hind leg are the most important.

    How To Draw A Fox Clipart Created From A Simple Design

    Creating a fox clipart can be a pleasant exercise using this simple step-by-step drawing tutorial. I will show you how to use simple squares, rectangles and circles to illustrate this fun animal in just four easy steps. This illustration is also filled with simple flat colors to create a basic clipart image visually interesting and easily recognizable.

    Foxes are cute animals similar to small dogs, but featuring large triangular ears, a flat pointed nose and a large tail. They can be found everywhere except in Antarctica. Foxes can be white, grey, black, but are often illustrated using a bright orange color. Let’s see how we can draw a simple version like the one found below.

    Enjoy a license to use this illustration

    Step 1

    First, draw a large rectangle to form the body of the animal. On both sides, you can draw small triangles to illustrate the cheeks. On top of the head, draw some large pointed ears made from curved lines. Finally, you can complete this step by drawing a long tail made from a single curved line.

    Step 2

    When you are done, you can work on the face of the cartoon animal. Start by drawing large eyes made from circles. Pupils can also be made using small circular shapes. Below the eyes, you can draw the nose using a small oval shape. The mouth is made from a single curved line.

    On the bottom of the rectangle, draw the feet and legs using small curved lines. The arms are done with broken lines as shown in the illustration below.
