We seem to be having lots of funny discussions about the Tooth Fairy recently. I decided to have the kids draw what they thought the Tooth Fairy looked like. ;I was;immediately asked Should we just draw Dad wearing a tutu? ;Ha, I love my kids! ;They know that the Tooth Fairy is not real, but they love the traditionOK maybe the money that she brings! ;After a bit of;discussion, we decided that they would draw their ideal Tooth Fairy. ;We used textured black;card stock;and oil pastels to create these unique Tooth Fairies.

How To Make The Tooth Fairy Pillow
1. The first thing you will need to do is cut out all your felt pieces.
- To make the main part of the pillow, Draw a tooth shape on a sheet of paper or print out this free tooth pattern that I drew to make mine. ;Cut it out and pin it to one piece of white felt. Then use the paper tooth shape to guide your scissors as you cut through the white felt. Do this twice so you end up with two pieces .
- Cut out two hearts to make the tooth pocket.
- Cut out two black ovals for eyes and two pink circles for cheeks.
2. Were going to first make the double heart pocket. Sew your little heart onto your big heart. Sew completely around the heart so it is fully attached.
3. Now its time to attach the heart pocket to what will be the back of the tooth fairy pillow. Sew your double heart onto one white tooth-shaped piece of felt. Be sure NOT to sew the top portion of the double heart so it will become the opening to the heart pocket for your childs tooth.
4. Set aside the back portion of the pillow and grab your other white tooth shaped piece of felt. ;Decide where you want the black eyes to be and pin them into place. Sew them on by hand. Do the same with the pink cheeks.
5. Lightly draw where you want the mouth to be and sew over it with embroidery thread. I used a simple back stitch.
6. You should now have a front piece with two eyes, two little cheeks and a sewn mouth, and a back piece with a heart pocket.

Tooth Fairy Directed Drawing
I love using directed drawings in the classroom because they practice so many important skills from listening and following directions to fine motor control. This tooth fairy directed drawing was the perfect companion to our dental health week activities!
I was a little worried that this one would be too difficult for kindergarten, but they turned out so good and unique!
When we do directed drawings, I draw my version on the board as students follow along at their seats. If you had a document camera, you could draw it on paper instead.
We start by drawing the directed drawing with black crayon. You could have students draw with a pencil and then trace, but I thought that would be too much for my students.
Then, I let my students color the tooth fairy any realistic colors that they wanted . The only color direction I gave was for the background.
I had students use yellow and blue to color the background. Its your choice if you have them do this, but I like that each picture is unique but has the background to unify them.
After were done, I place the visual directions in our writing center. It pairs perfectly with our dental health writing center!
