How To Draw A Whale: Outline The Drawing Step By Step
Step 1: Outline the mouth and front flipper
With the sketch done, let’s start outlining and improving our whale drawing. Start outlining the head, and join it with a smooth corner to the mouth. You can draw the joint as a little “lip” sticking out from the head oval as we did.
Next, outline the front flipper, drawing out the knobs on the flipper, and joining the two sketch lines with a rounded off tip.
Step 2: Draw the whale’s body
Now you can outline the rest of the body, breaking the belly lines where the flipper covers them.
Step 3: Draw the whale’s flipper and tail
Outline the other flipper, again drawing around the little knobs. Then draw out the whale’s tail – this is a straightforward outline of the sketch.
Step 4: Draw the eye and grooves
Our whale drawing is almost finished – here is the first round of the final detail improvements. Outline the throat grooves. Then add a light line in the middle of each flipper, and two marks on each side of the tail for some texture.
Step 5: Draw the water spout
In our last step, we improve on the simply sketched water spout. Outline the two main lines we have sketched, and lightly mark a few more streaming water lines in between. Then add a few waterdrops for some variety.
Our very final detail is to add a few knobs onto the whale’s chin for some extra texture – just little ovals, to complete the humpback whale look.

You Can Refer To The Simple Step
To draw a Shark Whale, start with the head. It must be two curves that meet at the right, with a few collisions to imply a mouth. The top line must be flat, except on the back and front. The bottom line will be a coordinated curve, before obliquely to make the mouth.
Now add a mouth with a long and thin drop of water. Place in a line just above the right of the mouth to make the nostrils, and a curve just behind the left of the mouth to add details to it. Place a dot behind the mouth to make the eye.
Next we draw the fins. The first is higher than the second and is drawn by two sides of the triangle. A short line is placed after the first fin, before creating the smaller one. Do this with a small hump with a straight line on the left. Make another small line then draw the rest of the animals back.
Now for big fins, bottom. This can be drawn with two lines starting very close together, and leaning towards the back, getting a bit closer as they go. The head should be slightly rounded, implying a sleek shape
The smaller fins are drawn like peaks. After a small curve back to make part of the abdomen, make the two sides of a triangle point down. Then, add a small stream to make the rest of the body.

What It’s Like To Draw Blood From A Whale Shark
In a remote bay in Indonesia, American researchers have partnered with local fishermen to uncover the mysteries of worlds biggest fish.
A speckled fin, three feet long, flicked out of the water as Al Dove surfaced in a morass of fish guts and foam. Behind him, a nightmarish cartilage slit of mouth gasped above the waterline, then lowered back into the spray.
As the sun sank over Cenderawasih Bay, the wind sent swells the color of spilled ink surging through a tangle of fishing nets, which Dove was sharing with a whale shark. It was a juvenile male, but still a powerful, seven-meter creature with skin like sandpaper.
Swimming with whale sharks as they circle in open waterbulked-out versions of the familiar, menacing shark silhouetteis a potent experience. Being in the net with them is an order of magnitude more intense. You do feel a little insignificant, Dove says. Thats good. I think we all need to be reminded that were insignificant from time to time.
Dove, a garrulous, heavyset Australian, is the vice president of research and conservation at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta and one of the worlds leading whale-shark experts. Along with colleagues, he spent nine days at sea in July and August in this remote bay on the northern side of West Papua. The expedition crew hope that the data they gathered will help answer just a few of the many questions that remain about the worlds biggest fish, a vulnerable species that is still barely understood by science.

Step 1: Start Drawing
Begin by drawing a rough initial sketch of the shark’s body. The body is like a spindle or a teardrop laid on its side, says artist Terryl Whitlatch. This goes for all sharks. The curved lines of the body create a spindle shape with one end slightly wider than the other end. The slightly wider end is the sharks head and the narrower end is the tail.
Sharks also have what’s called a lateral line that runs from the gills to the end of the tail. Its visible on the side of the body. The lateral line is really important when you draw any fish, says Whitlatch. Its a sensory organ that helps keep the shark oriented in the water, so it knows what’s up, what’s down, and whats sideways. Add this element to your drawing to make it as realistic as possible. You can also add a thicker line in various places to give more weight to any area of the body.
