Add The Legs And Paws
Now, with the body in place, we can turn our attention to drawing the legs. Compared to dogs, wolves have very long legs, so keep that in mind as you sketch. You can start with straight geometric shapes for the forelimbs, and rounded shapes for the hind legs. Then at the end, place large ovals for the paws. Remember to include a fluffy long tail at the end of the wolf’s body.
If you feel satisfied with the proportions of the legs, you can go ahead and add more anatomical detail and carve out the toes of the wolf’s paws from the ovals.

Learn How To Draw A Wolf Its Easier Than You Think With This Step By Step Tutorial
There are many qualities that a wolf shares with a dog, but a few key features make them look much different than mans best friend. The face and chest need to look extra furry, the waist really narrow, and the fur colored with at least two tones, the lighter being on the bottom.
Animals that need to have a fuzzy, furry edge are much easier to do when you approach it in two steps. First draw a smooth general body shape, then add the zig zag edge along the outside. Lastly, erase the initial smooth line and voila! A very furry looking animal. If students try to draw the fuzzy line first, it can be hard to control, especially for those without a lot of experience.

Interesting Facts About Wolves
Wolves hunt other animals for food. Their diet consists of moose, deer, and bison, among other animals. They always hunt in packs, never by themselves. Packs can be as small as two wolves or as large as 30, but they are usually made up of 6 to 8 wolves.
Did you know?
- On average, wolves live until they are 6 or 8 years old. They sometimes live until they are 13 years old.
- Wolves can sense other animals up to a mile away.
- Wolves have webbed toes that help them swim up to 8 miles at a time.
- Wolves can run as fast as 40 miles per hour, only for short distances.
- Howling is the way wolves communicate with each other. They howl to warn each other of predators, to find each other when they are alone, or to meet up when they are ready to go hunting.
Wolves have a sense of family. Their packs are made of a mother, father, and their offspring. The mother and father mate for life and take care of their offspring the way human parents take care of their children. The gray wolf and the red wolf are the only species that live in North America.

Learn How To Draw A Wolf Howling At The Moon Step By Step

Nothing captures the wilderness quite like a wolf howling at the moon. It’s an iconic image that is used in novels and films alike to communicate the embrace of nature. So, if you’ve already mastered how to draw a dog, why not venture into the forests and learn how to draw its majestic ancestor, the wolf?
Although they’re wild creatures, wolves have a lot in common with the lovable domestic companions we keep by our sides today. Some dog breeds, like huskies and malamutes, seem to share a lot of similarities, especially when they howl. Still, it’s important to approach each drawing subject with fresh, observant eyes. If you feel primed to make some art, then follow along this tutorial to learn how to draw a wolf howling at the moon in just seven simple steps!
Photo: Stock Photos from zef art/Shutterstock
Its good practice to do a bit of research before beginning any drawing. In the case of a wolf howling at the moon, try and collect a few images from different angles to better understand the shape of the wolf’s open mouth. Be very selective and find high-quality photos with no obstructions of the wolf’s head, legs, and especially paws . For this reason, it’s smart to collect a couple of images, as it’s hard to find one perfect photo that will show you everything that you need.
Wolf Drawing Step By Step
With this step by step drawing lesson, youll be creating this wolf drawing.
To begin, look for the large shapes that make up the wolf. For example, the body of the wolf is a large oval. Draw this oval on your paper first, making sure it is the right size and in a good position for the size of your paper. If this oval is too big or you draw it too high or too low, your wolf will run off the edges. Draw these initial sketches very lightly in case you need to make changes as you go along.
Now that you have the body shape in place, continue by adding the other shapes you see, such as an oval for the tail and a rectangle for the neck. The face of the wolf looks like a semi-circle to me, and the nose and mouth like small rectangles. You may draw your shapes a little differently than these there are no right or wrong shapes when your sketching out the animal. Draw what you see theyll all come together when we add the more solid lines.
Remember, draw these shapes lightly these are guidelines, and many of them will be erased when the drawing is finished.
Now your ready to add the lines you see. Notice where the lines curve, how they curve, and where they connect to each other. For example, the place where the top of the nose meets the head is even with the eye. The curved line indicating the far back leg actually ends at the haunch of the closer back leg. The tail touches the curve of that same leg.
Congratulations! You did it!
