How To Draw A Zig
When drawing this type of fold, try to start with a quick and jerky zig-zag line that feels organic and not too uniform. In the end, this provides a more natural-looking result because each fold has a unique character. Lock the ends of your lines with others to bring together two opposing forces on the material.
Use Clipping Masks To Assist With Shading The Laces
To begin shading, I have started with the laces. Use a darker, slightly more saturated color than your base color to add the shading. Place your shade shape layer just above the lace shape layer to which you are adding shade and then, to keep the shading within the Stroke lines you previously added, create a Clipping Mask to the layer below. To do this, RIGHT-CLICK the shade shape layer and select Create Clipping Mask. This will attach your shading shape layer to the base color shape layer, and keep the Stroke lines visible. Once youve done all the laces in this way, it will look like the example below.
How To Draw A Spiral Fold
Use curved and diagonal lines to fit the rounded forms of the body. Wrap the material around the form, widening the folds as they leave their points of support. Dont parallel the lines or repeat the same direction and volume. Give the folds a decorative arrangement instead. Radiate the material outward and up.

Add The Laces To The Boots
Once youre happy with your base colors, create a new group folder above the “lines” group, and name it “laces.” Choose a color for your laces and begin adding the shapes as the example below shows. If you need to use your initial sketch as a guide or reference, you can unhide it and move it above the rest of the layers and groups while you are working on this part.
Apply The Layer Style To The Rest Of The Laces
To add this Stroke to the rest of the shapes, rather than doing each individually, RIGHT-CLICK on the shape layer in the Layers tab, and choose the option Copy Layer Style. You can then select the rest of the laces shape layers by clicking the first/bottom one, holding down Shift, and clicking the top layer. This will select both the layers you have clicked, and all those in between. You can then Right-click and choose Paste Layer Style. This will leave all your laces shape layers with the black Stroke effect. You will be left with something that looks like the image below. You may need to rearrange your shape layers to ensure the laces display correctly.

How To Draw Clothes That Looks Real
Before learning how to draw clothes: some fun facts before starting sketching!
- Levi Strauss invented jeans in the 1880s.
- Some believe that American soldiers invented the t-shirt in WWII.
- It’s hard to say who invented shoes. They rather evolved over time.
Not all characters walk around naked! That’s why it’s important to know how to draw cartoon clothes properly. On the picture to your left, we can see a shirt hanging freely in space.
We can see that the top of the shirt is rather flat while the bottom looks more like a big wave. Whether you’re drawing a shirt or a dress, chances are that you will use this pattern very often.
This one is special because we don’t really see shapes in our picture. It’s just a bunch of curves and straight lines. The curves are used to draw the bottom of the shirt while the straight lines will be at the top . It’s useless to sketch tons and tons of lines to represent your clothes. Keep it simple.
You will practice yourself by drawing the bottom of a dress. First, sketch the outline of the cloth. Then, go for the most obvious lines inside the dress. Don’t hesitate to use ticker lines for long fold.
Color is really important to help reading the picture accurately. Using different tones of color to create shades and light effects is crucial if you would like to know how to draw realistic clothes.

Tip On Shading The Clothes
Shadows and highlighting enhance your clothes drawing. They give them a more realistic touch. Shadows around folds vary according to the thickness of the material.
Now when you are drawing folds, you must use a combination of soft and hard edges. If the clothing were smooth or light, it would reflect more light and give a brighter highlighted outlook. Make sure to shadow in the dark areas of your drawing.

Drawing Anime Sweater Or Sweatshirt
To draw a sweater in the anime style start by drawing its overall shape.
Sweaters and sweatshirts are usually made of soft but fairly thick material and tend to be fairly baggy and thus tend to have a lot of folds an curves.

Consider The Clothing Purpose & Preparing Your File
The next point is considering the purpose of the outfit youre designing. For example: is your character a princess or a martial artist, a student or an undercover spy? Is the main point of the clothing for look or for utility, or a mixture of both? With this in mind, well be working on an everyday type outfit in this tutorial.

Learn The Difference Of Drawing Fabrics And Texture When Drawing Clothing Folds
Apart from the basic folds, we need to work on an enhanced form of folds, distinguishing between fabrics and textures in a drawing.
Here comes a tip I cannot stress upon much. This might look hard at a beginners stage. However, if you master the ability to differentiate between fabrics and textures in drawing, you are good to go.
It is when an artist can depict the weight and texture of any material through the drawing. This shows the attention to detail and mastery to highlight it. I can tell you that it is tricky and requires a lot of practice.
Now, if the fabric is chiffon, voile, or light silk, you can show it through the straight or airy flowy movement. Draw a dress that is being blown away from the wind. For a realistic look, color it with light shadings.
Add some white lines. Make sure to draw wrinkles in the direction of wind and dress blowing.
On the other hand, if the fabric is heavy like velvet, you can depict through a sturdy movement of the figure. Drawing a fabric largely depends on the position of your figure.
Draw the heavy fabric in a straight and still manner. For a realistic look, add dark colors. For velvet, double shade the drawing.
On the other hand, you can show a rigid figure for formal suits. The way it is drawn, how it is draped, or the way it is colored gives an idea about the fabrics nature. In addition, you can illustrate the textures in fabrics as well. Work with color shadowing.
Through this video, you can learn to practice this technique.
How To Dress For Your Body Shape: Part 1 In A Series
Over the years a lot of catchy, confusing, and even downright insulting names have been used, by women themselves, to describe common womans body types.
The most objective choice is probably shapes, but who can remember which is a triangle vs. an inverted triangle?
Ill describe each body type with a couple of phrases, and note the shape as well, for you traditionalists.
Todays Body: Smaller Top, Bigger Bottom
As women weve often been taught to cover up or camouflage the parts of our bodies that we dont like. But I think its more important to use clothing and accessories to bring your body in balance. Read on for real life examples focusing on todays body shape:
Smaller Top, Bigger Bottom
If your upper body is small compared to your lower body, there are three basic ways to bring the top and bottom in balance with one another:

B. Draw attention to the top
C. Minimize the bottom
A. Add Volume On Top
