Add The Whiskers & Finish The Drawing
To finish the drawing you can give the wolf some whiskers. Generally these are fairly short and thin when compared to other animals such as cats. Draw them with just a few curved lines around the bottom outer sides of the snout.
Once you are done you should have a finished line drawing of the wolfs head.
Different Expressions Different Face Shapes
Depending on what kind of expression youre going for, the face will have different shapes.
For example, if youre drawing a surprised character, eyes growing big and a long O for the mouth, then the face will look more elongated.
On the other hand, if youre drawing someone angry, where the eyes and eyebrows grow close together and a closed mouth, maybe showing some teeth. Then we have the opposite effect.
Put yourself in front of a mirror and practice your expressions.
Take photos if you need to! Then, youll have tons of references for you to use in your drawings. If you prefer, you can even trace on top of your photos, so you can see clearly the differences in proportions and shapes, depending on the expression youre making!

Lend An Ear For Some Pre
Nothing stretches your drawing skills like the human ear. So before you put pen to paper, there are a few things you should remember. One of the most important functions of the ear is how it helps the artist understand the orientation and direction of the head, says sketch artist Jonathan Dockery. How you position the ears will help your viewer understand the position of the head and other facial features. Keep this in mind if you plan to draw your ear as part of a whole face or figure.
Next, grab a reference photo. A lot of artists feel like theyre cheating if they use a reference, but I use one all the time, says illustrator Guy Wolek. The ears are part of a persons character too. You cant just have a generic ear. Ears are very distinct from one person to the next. Spend some time thinking about how the shape of the ear reflects your character or pick a reference image that reflects these features.
Proportions Of The Face And Head : Three
Draw the head as an oval and then divide the length of the oval into three fairly equal parts, as pictured below.
Now draw a convex line down the first third of the oval and then do it again on the other side, as pictured below.
The ear will be within the middle third area, withing the last area behind the convex line.the ear is shaped like the letter C.
The simplest method of depicting the ear is with the capital letter C, and the capital letter S inset therein, to suggest the interior of the ear, as seen below.
From this simple form you can easily and certainly develop the ear to a more natural picture of that anatomical feature. However, for cartoon and caricature purposes the C-S design, with variations, will be practical.
There are two distinct forms of the ear the C and the triangle shape. Other ears are but variations or combinations of these two forms.
All designs of the curvatures within the ear surface seem to form more or less distinctly the letter S. In most cases the lower half of the S is smaller, especially in the case of the triangle shaped ear.
The ear is large in the kindly individual, and usually small in the mean, violent person. An example of this is seen in the case of Abraham Lincoln, whose ears were large, and, on the other extreme, in the prize fighter, who usually has a small, cauliflowered ear, though this, like all rules, has its exceptions.
The nose at this view can be expressed in a triangular shape, with the point at the top.

Learn To Draw The Face
How to draw a face? The human face is one of the most intriguing subjects an artist can tackle. In fact, people have been drawing and painting the human face for over 27,000 years. It seems portraiture never gets old, despite it being one of the toughest categories to master. Why is drawing faces such a tricky subject? Unlike still life and landscape paintings, which can have slight variations and inaccuracies without affecting the final work, a portrait must meticulously portray the proportion, the nuances, and the features unique to the person sitting for the portrait in order to capture a true and believable likeness.
When learning how to draw a person, it takes practice, practice, practice. The good news is that you will see as you are drawing faces, they all contain the same key features eyes, nose, mouth, ears and once you learn to draw realistic ones, youll be on your way to making the necessary adjustments that reflect your sitter. Drawing tutorials that guide you step-by-step through the process of face drawing are some of the best ways to begin.
Before you start the drawing, youll want to pick up some really good pencils for sketching, drawing, shading, and putting in the fine details.
How To Draw A Face From The Front
We’ll first discuss Loomis’ approach, which is more complex, but more accurate. If you find that this approach is a bit difficult for you, you can skip to the simpler approach further down the page. Remember, either way, the goal is to create a convincing drawing of a face so either approach you take is fine.

Proportions Of The Face And Head : Profile View / Side
For the beginner the profile view is usually easiest to draw.
Draw the head as an oval and then divide the length of the oval into three fairly equal parts, as with the front and three-quarter views. Draw a line down the center of the oval, as in the front view.
The eye will be shown by a triangle of the first half-length within the first third of the head.
The hair covering the temple will be within the space of the third area, which touches the center line. So, as you can see in the picture below. In the top third of the top 1/3 portion of the head is the hair line. In the top third of the 2nd 1/3 portion of the head, is where the sideburn isand it ends at about the center line of the head, where the ear is. This all sounds confusing so just look at the picture below.
Within the second half will be the ear, starting at the center line, C-shaped, covering two-thirds of this area. So, in other words, between the eyebrow and the base of the nose , is the earand right along the vertical center line. The picture below will explain all.
If you divide the left half of the face into thirds, then the mouth can be represented by a triangle, within the first third as you can see below.
This is an original method which I have found, in teaching students and others, works exceptionally well because of the use of three for every measurement, which makes the measurements easy to remember.

How To Draw Ears Realistic

Physical Features Of The Ear
Now that we covered anatomy and proportion, lets take a moment to observe the ear from different angles and make notes on physical features.
- The lower part of the ear is closer to the face than the upper part.
- At the ear, the jaw steps away from the rest of the head just a bit, creating a surface dip that is filled by the bowl of the ear
- From the front view, the ears slope inward from above
- The ear is shaped like a bowl, with the rim tucked in.
- The ear canal opening protected in front by a flap known as the tragus.

Iris And Upper Lid Crease
The upper lid crease is the most romantic crease of the face. Eyelid wrinkles that touch the upper eyelid at certain points create different effects. For example, exaggerated, high eyelid creases create the well-known bedroom look. It is worthwhile to experiment with the upper eyelid crease, as it can express completely different moods.
The standard eyelid crease, when the eye is at rest, runs almost parallel to the upper eyelid. Since things are rarely exactly parallel in nature, the eyelid crease can move slightly away from the eyelid towards the middle of the line and approaches the middle of the face again.
Geometrically, the iris is a circle concentric to the pupil. It is about half as wide as the total area of the eye. Of course, we do not draw a complete circle, because the iris is covered by the eyelids at the top and bottom. It may be easier to draw a complete circle for the iris first, and to remove the covered parts after.
Finish The Facial Features
Now shade the wolfs facial features as shown above . If drawing on paper it may be a good idea to use a pen or a marker starting from this stage of the drawing process. Doing so will let you easily erase the construction lines without effecting the parts of the drawing that you actually want to keep. Just be sure to wait for the pen/marker to dry before erasing so you dont smudge it.
For the eyes shade the following areas:
- The main areas of the eyes surrounding the irises
- Top part of the iris
- The pupils
Leave the reflections and the bottom parts of the the irises white.
For the nose shade as follows:
Leave the main highlight area defined earlier white. You will also want to create a sort of broken up white outline to define the nostrils. What you are basically drawing is a set of highlights that will help define the shape of the nostrils. You can also leave a tiny white highlight line in the middle to show the split in the nose.
For the mouth:
Completely shade both the bottom area of the mouth below the nose as well as the sides.

Add The Facial Features
Now add the actual eyes as well as their inner details. First drawing two oval like shapes inside the outline shapes drawing earlier. Again these should be angled slightly towards the snout. Next inside each eye draw two oval pupils with their tops slightly covered by the eyelids.
finally add a pair of small horizontal ovals right on the horizontal guide line overlapping the left side of each pupil. These will be the highlights.
After you finish the eyes draw the nose. Position it slightly to the upper part of the snout. For this stage of the drawing make the nose shaped similar to the kind of diamond you might find in a wedding ring .
After the nose draw the mouth as two curves. Each of these should start from the outer edges of the snout and join at the bottom tip of the nose.
