How To Change Background Color In Google Drawings

Create a Vector Drawing with Google Drawings

When you open a new project in Google Drawings, the interface greets you with a blank canvas with a transparent background. Now if you want to change the background and add some color to it, you’ll need to follow these simple steps:

Step 1: Right-click anywhere on the canvas to open up the contextual menu.

Step 2: Hover the mouse pointer over the Background option in the menu to open up the background settings.

Step 3: In the following drop-down, you’ll be able to select either a solid color or a gradient for the background.

The solid color tab is selected by default, and you can choose any color from the variety of preset options within the tab. In case you don’t want to select a preset color, you can also click on the Custom option to open up a color wheel.

Here, you can either enter the hex code of the color of your choice or manually choose it by dragging the slider across the color picker. You’ll also be able to select the transparency of the background. Once you’re satisfied with the choice, click on OK to set the color as the new background.

Step 4: If you’d much rather have a gradient as the background instead, you can switch over to the Gradient tab by clicking on it.

The Gradient also offers a variety of different presets and a Custom option to help you pick the gradient of your choice.

Once you’re satisfied with the selection, click on OK and the gradient will be added as the background. Pretty straightforward so far, right?

Painting And Drawing For Younger Children

I would never suggest that kids not actually colour in physical books with crayons, only PicoToONs takes that to a digital form. Whats cool about it is that it offers some helpful features for kids to learn about using colours together, with different digital tools to use, like crayons, paints and sprays. Parents can tweak it to support their development, and even view a video of how they created their works afterward. You can find it for the iPad, though not an Android.

Kids Doodle takes a similar approach, except it makes it more of a game. Rather than just the basics, kids can also try their hand drawing with fireworks, neon and other visual elements. The gaming part isnt intricate or extensive, though does help animate characters, giving kids something to strive for when using it. Find this one for the iPad and Android.

For something with more step-by-step learning to build confidence, How to Draw might be a good place to start. Its probably going to be a bit too challenging for younger kids, but those in middle school or older may get a kick out of it. As its name implies, it teaches you to draw various things. While free, it also does incur some costs to unlock certain features and content.

Draw and Tell is a neat one for how it allows kids to record themselves telling a story that goes with their drawings. Its more for kids in the 3-7 year range, yet could push a bit higher.

Step-By-Step Google Drawings Vector Portraits Lesson

The easiest way to draw on Google Docs is to use the Drawing feature. The capabilities of this feature are somewhat limited, but for quick shapes, word art, and simple diagrams it works just fine.

Neither the Drawing feature of Google Docs nor Google Drawing allows for the use of a stylus or pen for freehand drawing. You are limited to a few basic types of illustrations, all of which can be controlled using a mouse.

  • Start by creating or opening a document in Google Docs. Then place your cursor in the document where you want the drawing to appear.

  • Select Insert>Drawing.

If you need to , this is the option you will use.

  • Select + New.

  • The Drawing window opens. Here, you can select the type of drawing you would like to create from the Actions menu. For example, you could choose Word art from this menu.

  • A text box appears in your drawing. Type the text you want to use for word art. When you have the text you want, press Enter to save it.

  • The text appears in the drawing. The contextual toolbar at the top of the page also changes to give you font and color options. Adjust these options until the word art looks the way you want it to.

  • Once the shape is inserted into the drawing, you can adjust the appearance of it using the context toolbar at the top of the Drawing window.

  • You may also need to push the shape to the background so you can see the word art you created. To do that, right-click the shape, highlight Order, and then select Send to back.

If youre willing to spend some money to get something more unique or powerful, there are options. Adobe Sketch has morphed into Adobe Fresco, albeit behind a paywall. To get the full gamut of features, you will have to pay $12.99/month after a 30-day trial. It is one of the most elaborate and works really well on both the iPad and Wacom tablets. Some elements come from the likes of Photoshop and Illustrator, adding to the overall depth available.
