Irish Music Both Modern And Of The Traditional Folk Variety Is Often Played Live

Part 2 – How To Draw St. Patrick’s Day Stuff

A “céilí” is an Irish social gathering usually centered around dancing to traditional Irish music. Ireland has its share of musical instruments that get the chance to shine during St. Patrick’s Day performances. These include the bodhrán, a special drum, the Celtic harp, the fiddle, and and uilleann pipes, which are played similarly to Scottish bagpipes but are softer in tone.

Irish cultural groups in the U.S. also organize céilís, and teach the specific form of Gaelic dance that usually accompanies the folk music. These gatherings are not limited solely to St. Patrick’s Day, but are a common way to celebrate Irish culture on the holiday itself.

More modern pop music from the Irish diaspora is typically played during secular St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in many cities. This often includes the work of influential acts like the folk group The Dubliners, superstar rock band U2, and influential punk act The Pogues. And if you’re anywhere in the northeast you can bet you’ll hear “I’m Shipping Up to Boston” by Dropkick Murphys.

Eat Lucky Charms Cereal

Well, okay, this is not technically an Irish activity. And we normally don’t condone eating sugary cereal for breakfast on a regular basis. It doesn’t matter if it has a “whole grains” label on the box, either. But, it is a holiday and the perfect cereal for the occasion is Lucky Charms.

To maintain that healthy diet, make this a fun, once-a-year treat. Let your child have fun searching for all the green clovers and wondering what on Earth a leprechaun is.

Get Out The Green Dye

Just a small bottle of green dye can go a long way and create tons of fun on St. Patricks Day. Put a few drops in each toilet bowl to turn the toilet water green. Add a few drops to your gallon of milk and watch the kids be shocked when its time for morning cereal. Whip a few green drops into a some Cool Whip to top off a milkshake, hot cocoa or ice cream.

Don’t Forget To Wear Green

How to Draw Easy Things – St Patricks Day Clover Hat – Fun2draw (Online Drawing Lessons)

It’s an old game that anyone who doesn’t wear green on St. Patrick’s Day gets a pinch. Toddlers may not understand this concept and it may actually encourage bad behavior. For this reason, many teachers prefer a playful tickle instead.

No matter what your take is on the pinching part of St. Patrick’s Day, this is one more chance to take part in a fun tradition and reinforce the concept of green. It’s also a chance to instill independence.

Allow your child to pick out her own green outfit. She’ll have fun looking through drawers and closets to find something. You can make it even more fun by hiding an item in a drawer like a crazy new green pair of socks or a hat.

For young toddlers, layout two or three green shirts or dresses and ask them to choose just one to wear that day.

The Leprechaun Functions As The Days Mythical Mascot

Along with the shamrock, the leprechaun is another fixture of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. These stout creatures have been a staple of Celtic folklore for centuries. Per History.com, their original name “lobaircin” means “small-bodied fellow.”

Parades around the world typically feature leprechauns, occasionally performing dare-devilish feats.

According to CBS News, leprechauns originally were clad in red, not their now-signature green. In the 1900s, green became the de facto color associated with Irish culture, and eventually spread to leprechauns. Part of the hue change is also attributed to “The Leprechaun,” a popular poem by William Allingham in which the titular character wears green.

Leprechauns are often depicted with a pot of gold, which humans can only find by catching one of them. It’s why making the aforementioned leprechaun traps is a popular pastime for young children on March 17.

Take A Walk And Find Green Things

St. Patrick’s Day is all about the color green and it’s a perfect opportunity to teach your child about it. Since this day is also near the beginning of spring in most areas, a walk around the neighborhood or to a park is likely to yield plenty to talk about.

Get down on the ground and look under the blanket of dead, brown grass from winter to find new shoots appearing. Look at tree branches and find green buds that are emerging. Search for green caterpillars.

Ask your child simple yes and no questions like, “Is this green?” when pointing to something of another color to see if he is getting the concept of the color. Knowing what green isn’t is part of the learning experience.

Beware Of Pinchers In Your Midst

Feeling Lucky? – How to Draw Among Us St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun Imposter!

One peculiar bit of St. Patrick’s Day lore involves the pinching of people who don’t have any green garments on.

Per the Independent, this “dubious legend” comes from the idea that only those wearing the holiday’s signature color are invisible to the mischievous fingers of leprechauns, who enjoy pinching and playing pranks.

It’s a good thing to be aware of if you’re going to be out with a crowd on St. Patrick’s Day, but we think it’s probably best to keep your fingers to yourself.

Two summers ago, my kids and I were exploring our city playing Pokémon GO!

Last summer, we were exploring by joining in a fun treasure hunt of hiding and finding painted rocks. If youve ever heard of The Kindness Rocks project, or if youve been so lucky to find a hidden rock in your city, then youre familiar with what Im talking about.

Along with using the hashtag #TheKindnessRocksProject in my city we also have our own Facebook group and hashtag called #PensacolaRocks

Chances are, theres one around your town too.

There was a lull during the cold weather months, but not only have we found a few painted rocks around town recently, but the kids are asking to paint and hide them again now that the weather is warmer.

This past weekend, we created a few. I specifically wanted to share the ones we made just in time to hide for St. Patricks Day.

If you like ours, feel free to copy them! They were fun to make, and if theyll make another person smile today, then go for it!

We painted ours with a few shades of green, and a super shiny gold paint pen.

Then, we used Posca and gelly pens for the details.

Of course for St. Patricks Day, shamrocks, rainbows, pots of gold at the end of rainbows, and any cute quotes will work well.

My favorite products to use for painting rocks:
